Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to spend some time with a couple of my favourite bloggers, Judith from Style Crone and Shelley from Forest City Fashionista.
Judith was in town from Denver with her boyfriend and Shelley had taken the bus into the city from London Ontario for the day.
We went to the Distillery District in downtown Toronto which was the perfect spot to check out some fine hats…we all love hats.
Judith was visiting most of the Toronto milliners during her visit and these photos were taken at the Saucy Milliner.
Judith looks fantastic no matter what hat she is wearing.
Her spirit and energy are forever young. What a great person to be around!
Shelley makes this hat look seriously bad ass.
Shelley is easy to spend time with.
Her creative style doesn’t go unnoticed. Many conversations with strangers begin because of her personal fashion statement.
What a fun way to introduce yourself!
This was one of my favourites from the shop…a leopard fedora!
AMAZING!!!
I wanted to buy it but it was well out of my budget. I always manage to find the most expensive piece in the shop it seems.
Did you spot the major faux pas in the above photo? It’s pretty obvious.
Ha ha!
Oops
Judith had to leave the city early to meet up with her man so Shelley and I had the rest of the afternoon and part of it was spent drooling over the shoes at Fluevog and then playing around in their upside down room.
Shelley was also recognized by one of the salespeople at Fluevog who is an avid fan of her IG account. I told you she makes waves wherever she goes!
You may remember the vintage dress I’m wearing here…it is the famous “painted” dress.
See how much brighter it was before I washed it?
{sigh}
I did my best.
Shelley and I also found some time for thrifting.
Oh yes my friends, if there is a thrift store nearby I will be there checking it out.
Especially since that day it was 50% off.
*WARNING*
Other bloggers are enablers when it comes to shopping. If they can’t buy it they want you to.
That is what happened with this sequinned jacket. I spotted it first and then told myself to pass it by. The bomber jacket style sometimes isn’t great for my curvy figure and I thought I wouldn’t get enough use out of it so I talked myself out of it.
Shelley spotted it, showed it to me and pointed out just how great it was. I reconsidered my initial snap judgement.
I’ve wanted a Micheal Jackson sequinned jacket for a while now and this was my opportunity to snatch one up for less than $10.
I tried it on in the thrift store near a mirror. Two people waiting at the cash told me it looked great.
Damn!
Now I had to buy it.
Vanity thy name is…
Here is my ever helpful four legged assistant.
She likes me to hold her bone while she chews it.
This is just how glamorous my life is.
Obviously a sequinned black bomber jacket is the ideal outfit for this task.
Thanks for helping me find the perfect jacket for holding my pug’s bone Shelley!
I loved my day out with these fabulous women.
Having the opportunity to discover and meet up with dynamic, creative, interesting, inspiring, joyfully visible women is the main reason I continue to blog.
You can read Judith’s account of the event here and Shelley’s here.

I know exactly what you mean about the bomber jackets, Suzanne!! I was so against them at first! But I do think the fun details make them super fun! I have one now, but I’m sure there will be another in my future–especially if I can find such a deal like you got!!

Yay! Glad you had fun. Shopping with gal-pals is one of life’s greatest pleasures. (Emma and I went thrifting this past weekend in Ohio and I talked her into buying a gorgeous green fancy gown for $9.99 despite her protest that she has no occasion to wear it.) The leopard fedora is amazing!

What a joyful day out you all had! I’m glad you brought that sequin bomber home, it looks fab on you. You can wear it lots, I can see that working with so many different outfits. Instant glam! xx
Andrea says
Looks and sounds like you had a wonderful day!
And I recognized that dress right away! You did a great job coloring it in! I can’t even imagine how long that must have taken you… It’s such a fabulous dress; it was definitely worth it!

I would LOVE to meet both of those bloggers – I have followed them for quite awhile. Luckily, I have met you and I hope someday there will be a massive Blogger meetup again, pref. on the West Coast.

My Springer Spaniels also enjoy a helping hand with their bonesl! I feel guilty now that I don’t dress up more for the occasion!
You certainly do get to meet the most fascinating bloggers Suzanne. It’s quite obvious that you all had a wonderful time together. I must say you have a pretty spectacular hat attitude and face yourself!

I LOVE that bone-holder bomber, as in holding-the-bone-for-the-dog dress. Thank goodness for enablers. Hahaha. I can’t believe you’d abandon a sequin bomber jacker for $10. You guys clearly had a stellar time together and must have turned heads everywhere you went! The outdoor hat photo cracks me up. So wish I could have been there, but another time, another time. Hugs.

Looks like a fun day! The sequin bomber jacket looks great and you’ll find many looka for it. The leopard fedora was really fab – I keep sighing over hats myself which are too expensive!

Seems you had a fun day, ad that sequin bomber jacket looks fabulous on you! Hurray for Shelley making you reconsider. When I’m out shopping with my best friend, she always makes me buy things too. Just read your story about the “painted dress”. You must have been devastated. You still did a good job on the repainting. I wouldn’t have had the patience. Or the skill. xxx
susanburpee says
Love that painted dress, Suzanne. Especially with those red ankle boots.

Hooray for Shelley helping you see sense and get the sequinned bomber jacket. Zoe love it so it had to be done.
Blogging meet-ups are the best and I loved reading about yours on both Judith’s and Shelley’s blogs. You look like you had a blast. Fab hats and tut tut for taking a photo, you bad ass rule breaker. xxx
Veronica Cooke says
I’ve now read all three of your accounts of the meet up and clearly you all had a fab time!
I do love that painted dress on you and you made the right decision with the bomber jacket; it is gorgeous and it looks wonderful on you.
Don’t you get drool all over your fingers while Zoe is chewing her bone?
suzanne carillo says
Ha ha! Pugs don’t drool.

I CANNOT WAIT for a meetup in 2019 when I do my Canadian circumnavigation. WOOHOO! Maybe we can convince Ally to motor up. I want to go to that crazy Fluevog room!
I hear you on the enabling thing. I live with a shoe enabler. It’s in his (Filipino) blood! He’s a dessert enabler as well. But I think that’s covered in another post.
Now that you have a Michael Jackson sequin bomber, you MUST get a matching glove. Heehee. Just doing my enabling part, ma’am.
Lana says
So glad you bought that jacket. It’s fabulous. I was so sorry not to meet up with you in Toronto – but I understand. We were a very big group. Next time for sure!

Meeting up with you and Shelley was a tornado of fun. So happy to finally meet you and as I always find in blog world, you are even more fabulous in person. I’m still in awe of your painted dress! Talk about talent and persistence.
The sequin bomber jacket will serve you well. Enablers are the very best! Til next time! xo

I love reading your blogger meet up posts. It’s really fun to see all the antics you stylish gals get up to, never mind the SHOPPING! I can’t believe you even hesitated for a moment on the sequined jacket. Good thing Shelly was there to set you straight.
No Fear of Fashion says
Blogger meet-ups are the best. You and I both know. Such a pity we live so far apart most of the times. It is a pity Shelley and you couldn’t buy the hats you are both showing in this post. They both suit you ladies to a T.
Didn’t anybody tell you off for taking photos?
The bomber jacket looks great in this outfit. Also on your curvy body. What a steal.

It’s the only reason I continue to blog. So when are we getting together again?
And it’s a good thing you were talked into purchasing that bomber (although if you change your mind I’ll gladly take it off your cute little shoulders). Can you just see that paired with distressed jeans and funky booties. . . YES PLEASE!
But paired with that amazing skirt and bright tee is fabulous! Miss you my friend.
(when is your NY trip again)

I envy you being able to meet up with such amazing fellow bloggers without flying half way round the world! So fabulous that you all met and had such a great time (and yes, loved the photos that you were instructed not to take!!!). I’ve seen some of these pics on Shelley’s,Judith’s and your IGrams but the bonus of the fabulous sequined jacket with that amazing skirt (YOU look amazing) is such a bonus. Thank you for your beautiful blog. xx

We did have a wonderful day together, didn’t we? I love the photos in this post (the one of me in the studded beret makes me want to go back and get that hat). I’m glad you got that jacket – one of us had to have it! Staying connected with my blogging friends is the main reason I still carry on too. Looking forward to seeing you later this month.

I hope you know by now how much I admire your creative imagination and talent to turn those imaginings into reality. But seeing the painted dress–before and after–WOW! I didn’t think I could be more impressed, yet my admiration hopped up a couple of notches after seeing you you saved the life of that dress! 🙂 It looks amazing on you! You’ll have to send me the name of the acrylic pens you used. I may have a project to try in the future and I haven’t been sure where to start.
I’m pretty sure Zoe brought you her bone because she just knew you were dressed for the occasion. Ha ha! She is so funny! Perhaps next time we get together we can put that jacket to use in a “Michael Jackson” video. 🙂 It is awesome and looks amazing on you, especially with those other colors in your top, skirt, and boots.
Hugs,
Sherry
suzanne carillo says
Oh yeah! Hahahahahaha! A “Michael Jackson” video! Zoë you and me and a special “someone” can be in that! Hahahahaha!
The pens are fabric markers by Marvy. They sell them at Michaels craft stores here.

So many beautiful hats!!! Swoon….
Making friends through blogging is awesome and meeting them even better.
Bomber jackets unfortunately don’t work for my figure, otherwise I would own several of them, since there are so many gorgeous ones out there.
Same for sequins; I love sequins, but sequins on a top, jacket, etc. tend to get tangled up in my curls. Very annoying:-(
