I don’t have thick wavy supermodel hair.
I have thin, straight, fine hair which I get dyed ombre red every four weeks, (I’m a natural blond).
When I was first contacted by Irresistible Me and offered some hair extensions I turned them down, I didn’t think I would be able to wear hair extensions on fine thin hair. When they contacted me again I decided to do a bit of research and read website testimonials from satisfied customers saying they also had thin, fine hair but were still able to use their extensions without issue. I decided to give them a try.
I spoke to my hair stylist about them and she suggested I have the extensions dyed the same colour as my hair. It wasn’t cheap, but I figured I’d be more likely to wear them if they matched my hair perfectly, so I ordered them in a honey blond, the closest shade to my natural colour and had them dyed.
The Irresistible Me extensions took the colour perfectly and were an exact match to my hair.
I tried to play with the extensions on my own without any help other than a couple of videos I’d seen online.
This was my first try…I used everything that was in the box.
Fail!
I look like I Dream Of Jeannie or an extra from The Game of Thrones. Either way, not really a hair style I could see myself wearing other than for Halloween.
It should be noted that I’m not good at styling my own hair, I get frustrated easily, my arms get tired quickly, and I can never see what mess I’m creating behind my head, even with a mirror. Thus, why 95% of the time I don’t do anything with my hair. I don’t straight iron my hair. It is naturally straight. All I do it brush and blow dry it.
I knew that the extensions needed to be cut to blend in with my natural hair so I booked in for a cut and style and was shown by my stylist how to professionally use clip-in extensions. She also helped me by mapping the pieces to my head. In the end we didn’t use everything in the box. It was too overwhelming for my head.
So here is my hair without extensions…
And now with the extensions…
There were four extra pieces I didn’t use or have cut, so I can use them as pony tails, braids or wrap-arounds for a bun.
Tips how to wear hair extensions on thin fine hair
1. Get some professional help, cutting, dying and mapping onto your head so you know where each piece will fit.
2. Tease & hairspray the area where the clips will go, it helps secure them on fine hair.
3. Curl the hair once the extensions are in.
4. Tease and hairspray the top and back of your crown to ensure the clips aren’t visible.
5. When you remove the pieces, if you’ve had them cut, be sure to clip a note to each one so you know where it belongs on your head when you wear them again.
Did these hair extensions make me feel like a rock star?
Oh yeah.
Were they hot as hell?
You bet!
It was like having a fat cat wrapped around the lower half of my head. I can see where they would make a brilliant accessory for the winter months. I won’t need a scarf…I’ll just wear my extensions.
Also my hair is fine and thin on top, hair extensions do not help with this. Other companies do make what I would consider to be a type of “female toupée” for that problem. I think I’d like one of those. It would be ideal between colourings when my roots start to show and make my hair fuller on the top, which is truly where I need it.
I thought having hair extensions would make it easier to do my hair, I was wrong!
They take work and time to put in properly. I imagine after practising more with them I will become more proficient at it however I couldn’t see wearing them daily due to the amount of effort required. I’m a 5 minute hair gal, not a 15-20 minute hair gal. I also found that they were heavy on my head and started to become uncomfortable after wearing them for most of the day. Just like wearing my hair up, my scalp appreciates it when I just let my hair fall down, relaxed. Keep in mind I have Fibromyalgia and therefore my nerve endings register more pain than other people.
I would like to thank Irresistible Me for offering me the opportunity to try out their hair extensions. They are a superior quality product and they provided loads of hair to work with. I enjoyed wearing them and I will have fun playing with them and changing up my look in the future.
Would you ever consider wearing extensions?
All opinions expressed are my own. I was provided with one box of free hair extensions in exchange for this review.

These clip on hair extensions seem to be getting more popular. I have always wanted to do extensions but didn’t like the idea of gluing something to my hair.
My girlfriend who happens to be my stylish offered me some clip on hair extension. One of her client bought it and only needed one section of it and was looking for something to buy the rest. Lucky for me, it matched hair and she sold it to me for 1/3 of the price so I was game!
I used it only once and like you, I normally don’t do anything with my hair so it felt like a lot of work. They were fun but too hot to wear in the summer.
It looks great on you!

A wonderful hairstyle and dress cute.

Woah, your hair looks super cool! Have I ever worn hair extensions? I had some glue-in rainbow pieces I used to sport but that’s it. Nothing major. It’s pretty tough matching my hair texture.

Oh my. You do look very Beverly Hills. How fun. And such a cute dress. Anthro my love. But your real hair is just beautiful. Why mess with perfection? I don’t think I would ever be able to wear hair extensions. I can’t even stand to have product in my hair let alone HAIR in my hair.

I’ve always hated my hair and was totally looking into extensions just last year. I didn’t end up buying any because of the work involved! I, too, am a 5 minute hair girl (as you can tell by the mop on my head)! I actually saw a brand that was more like a headband that I was truly considering, but didn’t do it—because I would have to straighten my hair. If I could find some that came curly like my hair…I might try it….because they looked smokin’ hot in your picture!!! jodie

You look smokin’ in that glamour girl hair, Suzanne! Good advice too, on how to work with extensions. The color is spot on and gorgeous. xox

Oh, wow….you look awesome! Pretty smart of you to go to your stylist for the colour correction and to learn how to use them. I wish I had tried this when my hair was long enough for extensions, although I can’t stand headbands and the like on my head.
So…they’re clip in…that means that they only stay in for the day, amirite? That does sound like a lot of work, but totally fun for a special occasion.
Angela says
Wow! they do look great with all the curls and work put into them! I have naturally very thick hair and when my hair was long like that it was a real pain in the neck literally! It looks beautiful- but it is hot and heavy- I couldn’t even put my hair up in a ponytail without getting a headache- I had to pile it up on the very top of my head in a bobby pinned bun- or braid it and let it hang down. But you get used to it when it grows out slowly like that- it must be quite the thing to suddenly have all those extra hot n heavy locks! Despite the fact that it’s a real pain- I can’t look at photos like this without longing for my long hair- it just looks so lovely…
Paperesse says
You look beautiful with them, no doubt about it. But, then, you look beautiful without them, too. That I like quick, easy hair is rather evident, n’est-ce pas? So no, I wouldn’t/couldn’t use them.

I think extensions done well look really cool (and yours are definitely done well)–though beauty school gave me the unfortunate superpower of being able to spot a bad extension job from a mile away. haha! Some of my classmates wore clip-ins every single day (which can cause hair breakage unless you’re careful about varying the locations of the clips, so not recommended). I’m sometimes intrigued by the idea, but I’d have to fight my hair texture so much to get it to blend with extensions…and I’m also a 5 minute hair girl, so no, I’ve never tried them on myself.
Shawna says
They look gorgeous! I am pretty bad at styling hair and like you, my arms can’t handle it-too painful and/or my strength and endurance is not good. I am looking forward to seeing the extension make an appearance again. They are very pretty on you. xo
Lana says
Wow – these are gorgeous on you. I’ve toyed with the idea of extensions as a fun gift for my husband – who is just a bit hair obsessed. Maybe clip ons would be the way to go. I laughed that you’re a natural blond and color your hair. I spend a lot of money and time to get mine blond :)!

Holy cow, Suzanne – these are absolute glamour. I know what you’re saying about the time investment but what an awesome way to add some extra oomph to a special occasion. They look completely natural. I confess that I like the Game of Thrones look too. Haha. My hair is not very friendly towards things stuck on it, in it, around it. It’s just getting used to product once in a while. But it’s also too short to play like this but if I could…. Heh.

Gor-jus! Just gorgeous!
How amazing a professional job is.
They really do know their stuff. The dye job is fabulous.
But my favourite is the goofy first picture…priceless! 😀 xo Jazzy Jack

So insanely sexy hot….holy crap on a stick!!! Not that you aren’t usually insanely sexy hot, but damn woman…those extensions kick it up a notch or twelve. Irresistible Me recently contacted me as well, but I hadn’t responded yet for the opposite reason; I have so much hair and it grows so fast, but you have inspired me. I talked to my stylist about it today and I’m going to go ahead and do it!

Oh my! Did you used to be on Hollywood Squares? Such glamour. But really you look equally cool with your usually straight hair, even better in my opinion. Who wants to look like a model? I know, I know, most people. Well, now you know if you ever want to again. It’s a lot of work, discomfort, time and energy for….? Interesting, nevertheless.

Suzanne, your hair looks amazing with and without the extensions. I’ve always LOVED your ombre look! But what a fun trick to have up your sleeve for special occasions! Goddess hair! Thanks for sharing with Fun Fashion Friday!

I love your hair styled this way, it is so much fun! I am also not very good with my hair. I love your hair color, too. I am glad you tried this product, it is fun to see your hair styled like this!

I’ve always loved your hair, it never looks thin to me. To be honest I’m more than a bit envious of the condition of it, mine’s atrocious after weeks spent outside!
Those extensions are bloody gorgeous (I even like the Medieval princess look in the first photo). I’m rubbish at hair styling, too. Cheating rocks! xxx
No Fear of Fashion says
I know, I know, I know. I have been investigating this so many times. As you say, the problem is on top of your head and that cannot be helped with clips. I have tried the “female toupée, but not of real hair. It started to wobble at the back of my head because the shape of my head was not the shape of the toupée. I gave up and never tried the real hair toupée. I figured I would be so scared you’d see it when the wind blows your own hair away from the toupée. But that would solve the “problem”.
Funny thing is, when I saw your “before” photo I thought it was your “after” photo and said to myself: “holy cow, if this is the result then I want them too!” Haha. You see I like your hair a lot the way it is. And apparently you don’t have a pointy head like me, as it seems full at the top. Perhaps you have fine hair but lots of it.
Anyway.. yes, with the extensions lucious! Sexy! fantastic.
As yourself: terrific, sexy, fun.

Love your hair the way it is and love it with the extensions too! It looks awesome.
Can imagine that you don’t feel for all the fuss and the extra heat.
You can imagine that I’m not looking into extensions for my hair. I already have a lot of hair;-)
Liz says
They look totally rad, Suzanne! And rarely do I use the word “rad.” The ombre affect is awesome, and I know you chose that dress to complement your hair. It’s a perfect marriage. I appreciate your thorough and honest review. I’ve never considered extensions, but I’ve always been curious about how they work. They sound as daunting as I’d expect, but it’s good to know they can be dyed to match your hair color and that they’re just as fun and glamorous as I’d hoped. What a fun – and enlightening – experience! Thanks for sharing! I’m totally jealous!

Huh. I would have thought extensions would be easy to use, though looking back on it, I’m not sure why I thought that. So glad you give a real look at using extensions (I’d totally use all of the extension in the box and then be sad because it “didn’t work.” Good to know that you don’t need to use it all and that getting a stylist to help is a good idea). You look like a rockstar with them in and done up!
Nicole Mölders (@HighLatitudeSty) says
I surely would wear them. You showed that it is a great weekend look. I love the dress by the way

Gorgeous! I have tried 3 kinds of extensions and use the clip ins now for special occasions. Your photos were amazing. The personality change in yr body language with the extensions in mimics my own. It made me realise that just like I love the photo of you sans clip ins, I like the photos of me without them too.
I decided clip-ins were for those housewife shows and were geared to cause schadenfreud… And therefore have no place in my real life, but were great when I was on Bravo.
That being said, I still use them for special occasions and try to reflect a matter-of-fact body language about them because who doesn’t want the kind of attention they bring in a new atmosphere… Especially in Los Angeles… But I wear them straight like your original photo because at this age and in my particular situation, I need to reflect a little gravitas wherever I go.
Thank you for your post! That was fun to write.
Have an amazing day!
