I'll admit it. I had a girl crush on Ginger from Gilligan's Island. Everything about her was fabulous. Her hair, her walk, her zany antics. Zany antics. There is something that gives away my age right there. Not a phrase you hear often in twitterland. I digress… I loved her glamorous sexy style, rockin' body and her over-the-top frocks. All those magnificent dresses that somehow made it to that Island unscathed and freshly pressed.
Just look at that dress! The beading alone should have caught the eye of a rescue plane.
Now check out my rentition…I know I'm no Ginger but man this dress makes me feel like a star.
I'm posing in front of my shoe closet. Kidding. That is way too small for my shoe closet.
This is the vintage dress that is cray cray spectacular. I tried it on for a lark thinking it would totally overpower me. I thought someone like Maegan Don's wife from MadMen needed to be wearing it.
But in the end I decided because of my hair I can pull it off. Now I just need Maegan's bouffant hair, some go-huge-or-go-home chandelier drop earrings and some gold strappy sandals and I'll be set.
Why don't more dresses have gorgeous flowy scarves attached to the shoulders? They are so handy. I can swat away admiring fans that get too close, cover my head should it get windy outside and create my own pup tent if I'm lost on a desert island. Ginger would tell you that last one comes in handy.

Why don't I have a life that requires me to wear gowns like this every week?
I tried every excuse in the book to talk myself out of this dress. When I went to pay that dress wasn't on the counter. It was hanging up in the fitting room. Sad and dejected.
It was my girlfriend that was super devastated I wasn't buying it. She was the one that decided this would be my birthday present from her. (Well one of them. Hazel you spoil me too much!) How awesome is that? Yes I have the best best friend in the world.
Now I just need to figure out where I'll be wearing it.
Do you think it's too much if I stroll across the crescent to pick up my mail in this?

It does look spectacular on you! What a good, smart friend you have there. Make it shorter and take off the scarf and you could wear it anywhere, anytime. That’s what I’d do, but I’m a bit of a vintage criminal that way!

Talk about glamour, can we now have a total “girl crush” on you? (jk) I agree with everyone else, wear it everywhere and by all means wear it to pick up the mail, just make sure someone is observing you. If it were me, I would just plan a party so I did have an excuse to wear it.

Well I did make the scarf removable so it’s already a bit more wearable now.
It would be different if the dress only cost $10…then I might be more apt to want to alter it. It cost over $200 though… before taxes…so It would feel like throwing money away altering it.
I know right? I need to travel more like that gal, changing my outfit every 1/2 hour.
Well I “may” have somewhere to wear it to this weekend. We are planning to go to a Lindy Hop dance in downtown TO and the theme is Gilligan’s Island! Can you believe it? The only problem is that it won’t be easy dancing in the dress. I’ll just have to stand around looking great. LOL

Wow!!! This dress is spectacular! And as other comments said, you really look like a movie star in it! When a dress makes you feel this good, I’d say it’s definitely worth buying. I would throw a party just so I could wear something this fabulous. Maybe your friends have dresses hiding in their closets waiting for that special occasion as well. It would be fun for everyone to join looking and feeling their very best.

Easy. Make him take you to dinner … Polynesian or Cantonese! Some place where there’s dancing so everyone can see. He does know how to dip you, yes? I’d make stops at the mall and grocery store starting out and going home so more people could see it.
