It is hard to believe I never owned anything maxi up until about three years ago.
I thought for the longest time because I’m only 5’4″ I couldn’t wear maxis.
How silly of me.
Now I can’t imagine my wardrobe without them.
I picked this Kasper dress and two others in Florida at the Outlet stores when we were there at Christmas. Each dress cost $25.
The hat was a find at my most recent estate sale.
The belt is Anthropologie.
And this necklace a French vintage piece I scored at Netty Vintage before they closed their doors.
I also thought that leopard was only for cougars. Not the cat, but the ladies on the prowl.
Or for slutty women on top of cars or dancing around in music videos.
I know.
Unbelievably I am neither one of those.
(cough, cough, well most of the time anyhow)
Do you find you had preconceived ideas about what you should or shouldn’t wear that have changed?

Wow! This maxi dress looks great on you! I also thought maxi dresses were for the tall girls, I’m 5’2″. Will have to give it a try.
For the longest time I thought I should hide my hips under an A-line dress/skirt. Not anymore. As I have gotten older, i have become more confident in my body. I don’t have big boobs but I have the Puerto Rican hips and will show them off when I want!

Excellent example of creating a long silhouette Suzanne! Now to see you posing on top of a car?

When I first started blogging, I think I owned maybe 1 leopard item and thought it was only for older ladies. Now I can’t get enough of it. I love this maxi and the slits on the side which makes it a little bit different from the normal maxi dresses.

You’ve got a half inch on me, then! I thought the same once but how wrong I was, that unbroken line from waist to floor adds loads of height and no one knows how massive the heels are underneath.
You look gorgeous.xxxx

I can’t imagine my wardrobe without maxis either, I swear by them, all year round. As with most things, it’s about fit, and your leopard print dress fits you perfectly. In fact, a maxi and a denim jacket is one of my favourite looks, I wear it often myself, and the addition of a hat makes it extra special.
I used to feel a bit like you about leopard print actually; there was a famous character in a soap opera here in the Uk who loved a bit of animal print, and she was all brassy blonde hair and boobs and chequered love life (your UK readers will recognise Bet Lynch!) and I always associated it with her. I’ve got over it now and love me some leopard! I generally don’t like “should/shouldn’t wear” rules, I reckon it’s good to give things a go and wear them with confidence! xxxx

Maxi and me, we never became friends. I flirted with long dresses and skirts once per 5 years or so, but it never clicked. Even though I am tall-ish. It’s just not me, I guess…
On you it looks fab, like this oufit. Very pretty and flattering. Well done, Suzanne! Gorgeous!

What a great dress that looks good on you! You are inspiring me to look at long again. The hat and belt just make this retro design.

I’ve never tried on a maxi because I’m still convinced it would look ridiculous on me….plus Angel is strongly opposed to floor-length skirts…maybe he would be less opposed to floor length skirts with slits in them, however…

Love the leopard dress topped with denim. You look fab-u-lastic, and beware to young men if you ever decide to go on the prowl. Remember that Anne Bancroft was all of 37 when she played Mrs. Robinson . . .

That’s a cool outfit! The dress looks great. I kind of like the larger leopard print with the varied sizes of spots. I still haven’t really gotten into maxis – I only have one. I do like long midis, though. If I wear boots, I don’t have to wear tights!

Suzanne, we really would have fun shopping together. I would have grabbed that hat for sure, well, I actually would like to wear this entire outfit. Love the denim with the leopard. I’m only 5’4″ as well so I totally hear you on the maxi’s. What were we thinking?

I’m 5’3” and I love maxis! You look awesome here! Leopard looks great you. I don’t think I would have entertained wearing leopard when I was in my twenties – got really into it in my thirties and still love it.

I’m another avoided the maxi cuz I’m too short gal…but once I embraced them last year I was HOOKED!!! My fav for warm weather cuz my pasty white legs are covered yet they are cool to wear!!
And anything in leopard is a plus. I’m older than my hubby so I AM a cougar and totally embrace it!!!

I love the vintage necklace with the leopard. In answer to your question: I never thought I could wear sleeveless dresses. Well, I still don’t. But I recently purchased two sexy sleeveless dresses for Las Vegas. And, I am just going to go for it. And have fun!
That hat was a great find!

Looking very noir in the first photos, Suzanne. You look so much taller than you are … I’m very envious of your proportionality! Looking great in leopard … I still have all kinds of prejudices around it. Wasn’t for “real ladies” for a very long time, then Jackie and Audrey and Grace wore it and all was high-fashion for leopard. If anyone can redeem it to my eye, it’s you.

I’ve loved leopard for years, and you wear this maxi with panache. Very chic with your estate sale floppy brimmed hat. Thank you for sharing with Hat Attack!
