Did you watch the Oscars?
We had our annual Oscar party yesterday.
It started out with the red carpet looks except…ahem…who forgot to lay down the red carpet? Someone’s head is gonna roll!
Here I am schmoozing with one of the presenters in my last minute attempt to ensure a win.
My hand may or may not be on his butt.
#inevergrabandtell
We’re both wearing vintage. Robert is wearing a 1970’s tux jacket and I’m wearing a 1960’s beaded gown that I picked up from an estate sale.
This dress is really Old Hollywood glam don’t you think? The beaded neckline and sleeve caps are wonderful.
The earrings are clip-on vintage.
The ballots were filled out and the baby sized bottles of Prosecco were chilled.
Oscar Party Food
I made a couple of salads in glasses, some homemade gourmet popcorn, my own healthier version of Bits and Bites and a bouquet of cake and fruit pops. I created my own recipes after looking at other recipes on my Oscar Pinterest board or one of my other Pinterest recipe boards for inspiration.
The table was decorated with gold stars and I made fancy popcorn containers with rolled cardstock.
Then out came the first presenter for the evening…
Let’s see who won…
Holy cow! What a shocker!
I WON!
AGAIN!
For the record my four year winning streak continues! I guessed sixteen out of the twenty-four Oscars correctly. Here is the post where I gave my low-down on the films I’d seen.
The trophy I’m holding is my Blogger Of The Year that I was awarded from the wonderful and generous Ally over at Shy Biker. Thanks again lady!
Do you ever fill out Oscar ballots? It makes watching the Oscars so much more exciting!
Have you ever had an Oscar party or attended one? Did you dress up?
Want to see me wearing a gorgeous red gown that I bought at the same estate sale to another Oscar party? Click here baby.

JR says
You look gorgeous! The food looks delicious and so beautiful. Awesome presentation. As usual cracking up because I so LOVE your humor. And your husband and you look just like you two really were there! Thank you for a great Monday smile?

I’m lucky that my husband likes dressing up as much as I do : ) It’s not often I get to wear my gowns, that is why I love this tradition.
Sue @ A Colourful Canvas says
OOOOOH…you look fabulous dahling! Seriously….this dress is beautiful and you look beautiful wearing it. I don’t know if it’s the colour of the dress or your makeup, but your eyes are striking!
Haven’t watched the Oscars in years. I find the films that are nominated are usually not to my taste. Having said that, you make it all look so much fun, not to mention mouth watering. Everything looks so delicious!
suzanne carillo says
We did have fun.
I wish I’d gotten a photo with my other camera lens because the dress really did make my eyes pop. Well, that and the gobs of eye makeup ; )
Theresa says
I was looking forward to seeing what you’d come up with for Oscar night. And you didn’t disappoint. That color looks fabulous on you and I love the streamlined silhouette of the dress with a lovely touch of the glitz at the neck and sleeves. Very sophisticated and chic. Audrey Hepburn would be proud!
And that food presentation, you should have won an award for that spread 🙂
suzanne carillo says
I knew you’d appreciate the dress : ) Quite nice for the $10 I paid for it!
Theresa says
Whoa! Now that is quite the bargain, lucky lady 🙂
Curtise says
That’s a truly fabulous dress, red carpet-worthy and so beautiful! You and Robert are a very stylish couple. And of COURSE you won – no contest! xxx
Vix says
Every year I look forward to your Oscar night post. Robert & you are far better dressed than all those lame celebs with their loaned dresses and jewels. I adore your turquoise gown and your sassy up-do, the Mr’s dinner suit and that food which looks incredible.
I heard that Leo won an Oscar – good, I love him and that Mark Rylance got one for Best Supporting Actor. I don’t think I’d heard of anyone else except Sam Smith for what was the Worst Bond theme ever. xxx
suzanne carillo says
Yes Leo was quite humble and refined with his acceptance speech. He was brilliant in the Revenant and truly deserved the award. I fell a bit in love with him in The Departed.
Charlie says
First: Gorgeous!
Second: Well done!
Third: I think that politically correctly you didn’t win so much as have an Oscar ‘go to’ you.
Fourth: I’m not sure if your party was diverse enough. I think you should have invited an Australian. I volunteer.
Fifth: Awesome food!
And Last: Did everyone go home with goodie bags?
What a wonderful party idea. I think I’ll have to be inspired by you.
Patti says
You, Robert, the food – all so gorgeous! Love that 60’s gown, it’s made for you. I usually follow the Oscars, but sat it out this year – now Sandy has the stomach flu, along with his parents needing so much time. But I would have loved to be at your party. xox
Jazzy Jack says
Aha! This was the chosen one!
Both winners…the dress and the stunner!

Petite Silver Vixen says
Ha, ha, that male presenter is better than Hugh Jackman, so suave!
Darn it, I need to get my agent on the phone and ball her out on why I haven’t won the blasted award yet.
‘Shirley, get my agent on the phone NOW!’

Bwahahaha!! Now I’ll have to suck up to you more because you’re a multi-time Oscar winner. Best post ever! Except I missed that last one the first time around. Okay, best tied blog post ever.
It looks like you guys had so much fun. Your attire is truly red carpet worthy. Dazzling gown and tux. And you did the up hair. Now, let’s see what you got up to at the After party. Heh.
Thanks, Suzanne, for this great laugh. Not that it isn’t all true.
Shybiker says
You look terrific in that gown! And that trophy came in handy. Kudos for your winning picks. Love the Sally Fields quotation.
Jill says
You and Robert both look so wonderful. What a couple! Right on about you picking the most Oscar winners. I used to enter work contests, both my own and where my husband worked, and usually won–and actually picked up some money this way, ha!
So glad Leo got his Oscar. So shocked Sylvester did not win!
Happiness at Mid Life says
Can I come to your Oscar party next year? I watched all of 5 minutes of the Oscar last night and it was just way too slow for me. You tow are just a stunning couple!

Hope to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
suzanne carillo says
Of course you’re invited! : )
I agree the show is too slow. That is why it is fun to have other things going on at the same time.
Trina says
Ok, I’m inviting Par and myself to your Oscar Party (next year). Way too much fun! Love how you two actually dress up for this occasion. And with all seriousness, you both could have been presenters and fit right in. Your dress ($10 really?) is glam at its best, and it fits you like a glove. Did you have to alter it at all?
Now for the food, it’s absolutely perfect for the occasion as well. Nice finger food but edible as well. Love the gourmet popcorn and homemade containers. By the way, how does Robert do with his voting? This was my worst year ever . . . Mad Max threw me for a loop, I mean seriously??? Mad Max. Hrrrr. Great post, you talented lady.
suzanne carillo says
Come on over!
Yes, the dress was $10. That was the best estate sale ever. I did end up taking it in quite a bit and then Sunday had to take it out a bit. LOL. Stupid weight from Christmas.
I beat Robert again. He was sure he would take me down this year, but nope…it is the one thing I manage to beat him at year after year.
Lana says
Gorgeous gown, handsome hubby, delicious food – looks like it was a great party! I like the idea of filling out ballots. We watched off and on – I can never gather much interest in this male dominated house of mine!
Porcelina says
What a dapper pair!! I love that dress on you. I have never been to an Oscar party, the time difference makes it tricky over here. Now Eurovision is one I’m looking forward to! Xx
stylentonic says
Oh yes, you won… definitely! 😉

Perfect to every detail; how much fun! I would have loved to be there with you and joined in the party!
suzanne carillo says
You’re invited next year! Do you think you can make it? ; P
Anja says
Keep me posted by then…one never knows;-). And thanks for the invite anyway!
Andrea@WellnessNotes says
Fabulous dress! The color is so pretty, and I just love the beaded neckline and sleeve caps!
And how fun to have a little Oscar party! I was going to do something similar, but we had friends over for brunch and they didn’t leave until late in the afternoon, so I ended up doing nothing…
suzanne carillo says
Bummer.
Liz says
Look at you fabulous, glamorous people! What a fun party idea. I saw you post a couple of teasers to Instagram and hoped you’d share more here on your blog. Your photos turned out perfectly, and the spread of food looks delicious! I’m also a fan of the single-serve crudites and dip in a cup! I would love to attend something like this. Thanks for sharing!

P.S. I know I posted on your Oscars recommendations post that Kyle and I hadn't seen many of the films. So we squeezed in Spotlight and The Revenant at the last minute. I guess it was good we saw those since they were big winners! Brooklyn is next on my list! When I described it to Kyle, I quoted it as, "a gorgeous love story" like you said in your post. Kyle was like, "Is that it…? It that all you know about it."
"Yes. But Suzanne recommended it. And that's enough for me." lol
suzanne carillo says
Ha ha! Men. I’m sure if you’d said it was action adventure he’d have been all over it.
My husband also loved Brooklyn so that is a good sign. Normally he is an action adventure or horror kind of guy.
No Fear of Fashion says
I like the blue dress but the black/red number… gee that is a total knock-out. That cream one you were wearing in that same 2014 post was lovely too.
And no I have never done an Oscar party. It is the middle of the night here when they come on.

suzanne carillo says
Ha ha! I Photoshopped my head onto the body of Cate Blanchett in that cream dress. LOL She was at the podium giving her real Oscar speech. LOL
Anna Parkes says
Suzanne – of course you won! Looking like that, how on earth could you fail to be a winner? This dress reminds me of a lime green bejewelled number my mother wore many moons ago – she rocked that look too, although little did I know it at the time. Your party looked such fun. But my invitation must have gotten lost in the post…

Oh my gosh…I want to come to a party at your house!! Both you and your husband look gorgeous! That gown is stunning!
Kristian says
This looks like you had so much fun! Also- Yummy food!!!
Shelley@ForestCityFashionista says
I went to an Oscar Party several years ago, and got very dressed up, but the party itself was pretty boring – yours looks like it was soooo much better. The snacks and decorations are stellar – definitely Oscar-worthy, as are your outfits. I saw a few of the nominated films but was only interested in seeing if Emma Donoghue won for best adapted screenplay for Room (she lives here in London and is a very lovely person) so once that award went to someone else, I switched over to The Walking Dead.
Hollie Ramsey says
I’m not a fan of the Oscars but I would SO go to any Oscar party you host!!!
Michelle says
You both look fantastic! That color is amazing on you. I laughed while reading this, your hubby is such a good sport for participating. What fun!
