Shoes Or Booties – 3 Tips To Choose The Right Footwear
I stumbled across both of these pairs a couple of months ago when my sister was visiting and forced me to go shopping at TJ Maxx. My sister is cruel like that.
TJ Maxx often has a very large shoe and boot selection. If there are lots of styles I like I will often buy multiple pairs with the caveat that I keep only one pair after trying them out at home and return the others. This also allows me to judge which are more comfortable and try them out with other pieces from my wardrobe.
This works out most some of the time.
Truth be told, I have been known to keep more than one pair sometimes.
Shhh. Keep that info under your hat. No one but you and I need to know about my crack shoe addiction.
Let’s start with these embellished lovelies by Sam Edelman.
Cute, elongating, with a don’t-walk-out-of-them ankle strap and reasonable-ish heel height.
Now let’s check out the tapestry bootie option…
Gorgeous colours, possibly more practical due to Ontario weather, with a higher block heel.
I think Zoë likes them. She is eyeing them up as a midnight chew toy.
Back to the shoes.
Zoë isn’t so sure. Do they taste like chicken dipped in beef stuffed with pork?
Which to choose?
Zoë has had enough of this fash-un BS.
She is doing what we all should do when faced with such a arduous decision…
Take a nap.
Which to choose? The shoes or booties?
“BOTH!”
I hear you screaming.
That’s me laughing…not my husband or pug.
We all know there is not enough room at The Shoe Inn for both.
So which pair did I choose?
Shoes or Booties – 3 Tips To Choose The Right Pair Of Footwear
- Check the store’s return policy. Buying from a store that allows 10 or 30 day returns means you can try them out at home first. I used to walk a kilometre on my treadmill with the shoes to see if they were going to truly be comfortable to walk in. Two of the large thrift store chains I shop at have a seven day exchange policy.
- See how many outfits you can create with the footwear. They should work seamlessly with the clothing you already have.
- Avoid purchasing if they resemble something you already own.
Here is a hint…as to which I chose to keep…I already own a pair of tapestry booties. Let me refresh your memory…
If you guessed that I kept the shoes … congratulations!
You just won a free subscription to my blog.
Ha ha!
Which pair would you have kept?
Linking up with the lovely Patti over at Visible Monday.
Mmm, difficult: they’re both gorgeous! If I really had to choose just one pair, I’d take the booties, as I don’t have a pair of tapestry booties yet, and I prefer a block heel. Gorgeous skirt! Oh, and isn’t Zoë adorable! xxx
Yes, I was screaming keep both but your choice was sensible as you already had a similar pair of booties…
I don’t wear ankle strap shoes (unless under trousers where they’re hidden) as I have short legs and ankle straps make them look even shorter! But I do love them.
I agree that ankle straps can shorten my legs but I have a problem walking out of pumps without an ankle strap. I think I might have very narrow heels or something. Why couldn’t I have a very narrow waist instead?
The booties. I’m too lazy to walk in heels without some kind of full ankle support. Plus my feet are super fat and boots kind of hold everything in. They need to make feet Spanx.
That is a million dollar company in waiting. Feet Spanx!
I love both pairs!!!!!!! TjMaxx is so great 😀
Yeah that store is dangerous.
I like the shoes best, I wouldhave snapped those up! and I did remember that you had a pair of tapestry boots already, so I must have some especially large shoe part of my brain that remembers other people’s footwear as well as my own… Xx
That is a rare talent indeed. Shame they don’t have that category in Trivial Pursuit.
Yes, Suzanne, I did guess correctly. !
I adore the tapestry booties and I also love the shoes that you ultimately chose ! Yes, not enough room at the inn. LOL. I also think the pointy shoes are a bit more flattering with skirts and dresses. I love the booties with maxi dresses and denim. I also love your strategy of buying at TJ Maxx and then taking the shoes home to see if they are truly comfortable. Also, I want to thank you for your lovely and supportive comments of late.
❤️❤️❤️

Do you ever shop at Century 21? I found that store overwhelming when I’ve visited but they did have lots of shoes.
I don’t know, dear Suzanne! Just like you said, you heard us saying BOTH! I thought that way! I loved the shoes, but I also loved the booties and Zoe too 🙂 I think that if I am “pushed” to choose a pair… I will choose the booties 🙂 You look fabulous, I loved the skirt! Hope you have a lovely week! Bisous!

I choose Zoe! She’s adorable.
The boots every time – I don’t get pointy toed shoes at all – maybe ‘cos my feet are big enough already, I don’t need to elongate them!
A girl can never have too many pairs of ankle boots – easy to walk in and add a bit of rock star sas to anything. xxx
I agree that boots are much easier to walk in. I’m a sucker for anything that elongates my body. I need all the lengthening I can get.
Well both, but the shoes – I have been drooling over them since I first saw them. I love the way you and Zoe look at each other – that kind of “I know you love me” look. xox

It might just be, “You are the hand that feeds me…” look. ; )
Oh I would have thrown caution to the wind probably and splashed out on both as both are gorgeous. Mine you, I probably would have fallen over in the shoes – that heel is a tad too high for me! I do love your own tapestry boots so you were wise to keep only the shoes. I love patterned shoes. Note to self – buy more pairs of shoes!!!!

The shoes are 2.5″ heigh but I agree, I would have preferred they were a bit shorter. Ideally I like a kitten heel.
I cannot believe you need to make a note to yourself to buy more shoes Jaqueline! Are you sure you are a blogger? Ha ha!
Also thought I’d mention that I cannot seem to comment on your blog. I tried three times. You might want to check and see if the comments end up in the spam.
Oh Suzanne, I’m afraid I would have chosen both. They’re too different and can be worn for different occasions, so how on earth could you have taken one back? And yes, you’ve already got a pair of brocade boots, but that’s no excuse. That argument doesn’t hold water – you bought red and yellow sock boots that are identical. You really ought to take me shoe shopping next time – I’m excellent at frittering money away!

Hahahahaha! You enabler you!
Oh yeah, hands down I figured you out this time. Shoes. These are beauties too. Very flattering in design and fit. Not that the booties are bad, but you have SO MANY! Hahaha!! Yes, that’s me calling the kettle copper or whatever. I say, add an extension onto your house so avoid these pesky decisions. Easy.
And Zoe, hahaha, she is awesomely discerning. She’s so good. Treat for you both for such a great post.

Come on Mel! I don’t have as many boots as Imelda Marcos I’m sure! Ha ha!
My SIL’s suggestion was to change my office into a storage room for clothes and shoes.
I’m extremely proud that I guessed “the shoes”. I remembered that you already had brocade boot beauties and there’s too much similarity between the two brocades. I don’t have brocade boots but I do have floral print boots in both a combat, tiny print,on black background style and a suede bootie in a pretty , pale, English garden print. I love them, so I know the ramifications of dangerous overshoeing (found often in the northern hemisphere).
You are to be commended on your restrained shoe buying behavior Suzanne. I think Zoe was cheering you on regardless of outcome.
I am an overshoer! Now at least I have a name for it. I wonder if they have overshoer’s help groups?
Zoë is good at hanging around hoping that a treat might miraculously fall from the sky. She is optimistic like that.
Indeed I would have kept the shoes. For the same reason you have: the boots are too similar to the ones you already own. At the moment I am going through a micro manic depression. Not feeling any joy, don’t want to shop anymore (that is a new one), don’t really want to blog anymore (too much temptation), just want to lie in bed and do nothing. This kind of feeling hits me more often. No idea why as my life is pretty darned perfect. Oh well, it will pass again. For the moment I am fighting it.

I am very sorry to hear that Greetje. I’m sending you hugs and positive thoughts. ((((Greetje)))))
I did guess the shoes, but they are both lovely so it was a hard decision for you! Very good advice to audit what you already have.
This is gorgeous!! Love the entire outfit!

Love both of them, but would have kept the shoes, like you did.
Funny, I almost bought Sam Edelman sneakers in Singapore a month ago, but they were out in my size. Phew…friendly for my wallet. The sneakers had one open and one closed eye on them. A bit similar to your shoes.
I would chose the booties, because I love boots. I’m also a huge fan of block heels, they’re the one and only kind of heel I could manage!
Having fussy feet and loving shoes make together an awful combo! So my options are usually very limited!
Love to see you rocking those shoes, they’re amazing. And they look fab with fishnets!
