Two weeks ago we went out to Dundas to catch their annual Artisan Studio Tour. It is the first year I went to this tour and it didn't disappoint.
The town of Dundas is beautiful in itself. Look at a sample of one of the houses we walked by… so quaint and picture perfect! The area of Dundas and surrounds is often used for films.
I love studio tours because they give you the opportunity to meet and speak to the artists as well as sometimes view their creative spaces. Something I always find fascinating.
This fine art photographer by the name of Janusz Wrobel was very interesting and his photos had a real painter quality. In fact I thought they were paintings until I spoke to him.
The images were stunning and all taken in Ontario. Most of them not far from Hamilton.
I was delighted to learn that none of the images had been retouched in Photoshop. It was hard to wrap my head around it as the colours were so vivid and the scenes seemed so unreal. I wish I had a better photo of his work but you can see more at his website.
We saw several fibre artists. This one was by Lorraine Roy.
I just love the colours in the work below by Sue Firkser. I wanted that piece on the left something fierce.
Ended up buying a lovely natural handmade wood cheese/appetizer board from Ron Katz.
Hazel bought some jewelry.
And a little unique doll from Monika Shedden that she had been stalking at the One of a Kind Show for years.
The show was very well curated because none of the artists were remotely similar.
Kristina makes some incredible organic lamps as well.
Aren't these angels fun? They are by Zsuzsa Monostory of Raku Clayworks.
The best studio I've even see was at Deborah Doran's place. She had a separate house for it with natural lighting all around.
It was grand enough to house a display store as well.
This glass maker, Lezlie Winemaker was one of the last we saw and I fell in love with her unique work. It reminds me of something from a Tim Burton animated film.
How is this for a big ring?
Or the human bug brooch?
I spent quite a while in her booth looking over everything in great detail. I had my eyes on one necklace that was gorgeous full of birds and a nest…but in the end this owl cuff was the treasure I took home with me.
Wisdom is hand stamped into the copper on the side.
It was a great way to spend a Sunday morning. After we stopped for a little of this…
And some of this…
Fun times with family
And friends…
Totally casual and makeup free since we went for a hike afterwards.
Have you gone to any artisan studio tours? Did you like it? Did you buy anything?
