Last weekend was Canadian Thanksgiving and I decided to get into the Fall spirit and decorated with some DIY Thanksgiving Home Decor.
The above photo is a bit blurry since I took it with my iPhone but I still had the artichokes in the display which I love.
Those only last about a week and one of my little orange pumpkins started to rot (which was weird) so I had to replace those with some extra flowers. I’ve since changed up the tray again by adding in some green apples and pears.
This is such an easy and inexpensive Thanksgiving table centrepiece to create.
I bought the veg at the grocery store. The silk flowers I bought for 70% off at Michaels. They often sell little bunches of flowers together in coordinating colour schemes which is even cheaper and easier if you’re unsure which colours coordinate.
I had some old potpourri that I dumped into one of the squares of the tray, and some old basket stuffing that helped raise up some of the small pumpkins. You can also use scrunched up newspaper. Add the pumpkins, squash and candles and tuck the flowers in-between the veg and fruit.
My little tip for creating an appealing floral display or centrepiece is to group like colours together for more visual impact.
BTW…two of those candles are the fake ones and I LOVE them! They look just as good if not better than real candles and never burn down. I bought them at the grocery store.
If I wanted to I could have made the display a bit taller by adding in some of my vintage books which would have looked nice too.
Now I can just pick up the tray and move it into whatever room I like.
I also decorated my fireplace mantel for fall.
I keep reusing the same photo frames that I bought with 40% off coupons at Michaels. I used a photo of the table centrepiece for one of the images and then yes, (Mrs. Vain as my husband called me) I used a photo of myself for the other. It just matched so well with the colours and I really like the dreamy image of the photo especially after I played around with it in Photoshop and added some lens flare effects.
I decided to sew that little fabric banner. It was a bit of a pain to make but I like how it turned out, very shabby chic (or as I’m sure Melanie would say, very shabby shit! ha ha!). I found some instructions for a no sew larger fabric banner online which looks much easier if you’re interested.
Changing up the mantel is inexpensive and easy but makes a big difference in our living room.
Do you decorate for fall or Thanksgiving?
Here is the same mantel decorated for Spring, Christmas, Valentine’s
