I don’t know why but every year around the holidays I become a little totally sequinned obsessed. I like sequins all year round, but something about the holidays makes me think I need to be extra shiny.
I guess I like to compete with the tinsel.
When we had another overnight soiree recently downtown at the Royal York (to make up for the last one) I spotted this in a shop.
Isn’t it well styled? I wanted the whole outfit. Dress, necklace and fluffy scarf. I think this would be such a different colour for me to wear. Almost nude. It reminds me of a costume from Dancing with the Stars. I spotted this in a posh boutique and it was out of my price range. I didn’t dare try it on for fear I would fall in deeply in love with it and then would spend the month obsessing over it. This way I could make myself believe it wouldn’t have fit.
Besides, I already own this fab vintage sequinned dress…
So in my quest for sequinned happiness for the holidays I was struck dumb when I came across this vintage lovely at My Edit a little gem of a vintage shop in Hamilton. Jentine posted this online and no I did not have a problem driving 45 minutes to Hamilton to try it on.
Plus did I mention they have one of the best thrift stores ever out there? Talize. I “popped” in for 5 minutes which morphed into two hours, seven pairs of foot ware, one suede skirt, two t-shirts and two handbags later… Eeek! Good thing I’m I don’t live close to that store. It is the black hole of thrift stores. I never get out.
This beaded-and-sequinned-to-the-max vintage dress is what I will be wearing New Year’s Eve.
Isn’t the beading mesmerizing? To top it all off…the dress is silk. Silk! The hemline is an unusual zigzag.
Added bonus…I was able to negotiate with the store owner since I brought in some vintage pieces that were too large or didn’t work for me so I paid a total of $20 for this dress. A very far cry from the very expensive dress I spotted at that boutique.
I cannot wait to wear it!
I think this dress is a good indication of the kind of treasures you can discover when shopping vintage. Plus it satisfies my need for sparkle during the holidays.
Linking up with the lovely Patti at Visible Monday.
