When I went to NYC for the blogger meet-up I had to pack all of my clothing for five days into one carry-on. This 1950’s vintage dress didn’t make the cut.
The reason? It’s just not WOW enough. Yes, I was seduced by the 100 % cotton, the pleat detailing at the chest (sadly you can’t really see this in the photos) and the tiny blue Forget-me-nots in the pattern. Those are all wonderful details and why I simply had to have the dress even if it wasn’t my “usual colour palette”.
This dress is perfect for days when I want to be sweet, stylish and fly under the radar a bit.
For days when I’m my usual bold, brash self and want to make a memorable impression I rely on one of the other colourful dresses I took with me to NYC.
My accessories were an obvious effort to add some colour to this dress as you will rarely find me wearing white.
Next post I’m going to share another vintage outfit which I did take to NYC that is so insanely BOLD & BRASH you might need to shield your eyes from its blinding awesomeness.
Are you sometimes seduced into buying items you normally wouldn’t simply because it is so unique?
Linking up with Visible Monday Tardis Tuesday
This little item may not be “wow” enough for the streets of NY, but it has its own beauty. I adore the simplicity of the style, it brings out the confidence of the person wearing it, yes that being you. Very smart choice adding the neck-tie scarf. Am I ever seduced into buying? Hahahaha . . . need I say more
Ha! Liked your last sentence ; )
The dress is beautiful!!! What a lovely, flattering item and I.totally agree about the buying an item because it is unusual!
The TARDIS blue shoes are gorgeous too and I’d really love it if you joined in with TARDIS Tuesday link up tomorrow with your shoes!!! X
I love it and you styled it to perfection. Brings out the demure in you! 😉 xo Jazzy Jack
It’s a gorgeous, classic dress, and yeah – I love to break with my usual style and try something new. That bag! So perfect. xo

Aw that’s a shame, I feel sad for this dress! It’s so pretty, I’d wear it in a heartbeat. I know what you mean though; there’s so many things that I wear and love but thing ‘meh, I probably wouldn’t put it on the blog though’, which I guess is almost the same thing…
Yes, that’s happened to me. And yes, you’re entirely right about this dress. It’s pretty but not BOLD SUZANNE pretty. (Someone ought to trademark that phrase.)
Actually, I think that’s exactly what you should buy . . . those unique things that really grab you. It is a very cute dress and I can see why you fell for it!
I wanna go to a blogger meetup and wear the same outfit everyday and call it a new trend. 😀
The dress is fabulous and fits you perfectly. The detailing is just lovely and I can see those bodice pleats in your photo.
The joy of vintage trading is that, providing I can afford it, I can buy anything I like. It doesn’t even need to fit or even to suit me but I get to own it for a fleeting moment! xxx
I actually disagree. I think this dress has a lot of wow! And I love that it’s cotton. So difficult to find cotton dresses.

I always loved vintage dresses. Your Outfit is gorgeous! Love your blue shoes!
I agree that I don’t think you wear white that often but you do look lovely in it! Love the dress. The pattern and pleat detailing is so lovely. A perfect piece to look so sweet in. I can see why you chose your other looks as they were more bold but this dress is adorable. Can’t believe how great you travelled with only a carry on! 🙂

It’s such a sweet dress… And I totally understand what you mean, that it’s not your usual style. I have a few dresses like that, too. I fell for them, but find them a bit ‘not quite me’, at leats on most days. But every once in a while you need to mix it up a bit, right?
Whaaat??? I think it’s perfect for New York. You look like a young ingenue just off the bus from Canada about to take New York by storm!!!!
OMG! That didn’t make the cut? Noooo – it’s fabulous on you. What a fit on you Suzanne. And the tapestry bag is just perfect with it.
But if you don’t feel it’s you then I get it. *Cough* you could always give it to me!!
The dress has such a beautiful shape and fits you so well. It is rather subdued in terms of colour and pattern, but still has WOW factor on you.
Cada dia más dificil la selección, todas fenomenas pero yo me quedaría con Pistas de mi armario, Dare to dream y 10000 mil maneras de vestir. Un besito
Hmmm…. I might be in the minority, but I think this is one dress that would benefit from less-is-more. I love the structure of the dress, but feel the accessories (while lovely too on their own!) seem to distract the eye. On the other hand, as you say, dress is very sweet though, so the accessories to toughen it up a bit….
Can’t wait to see what things did make the cut too!
Sometimes a little goes a long way. I think this dress is very sweet and fun! I most certainly don’t have too many wow look at me clothes but that’s more my personality. I can’t wait to see your wow look at me outfit!

Hope to see your Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
This dress may be more simple than others you wear, but it’s just as lovely on you. I think the color is very flattering, and the fit is perfect. Very pretty!
Dear Suzanne, maybe not wow enough, but really very sweet, as you said – for the days you want to look sweet – well, I find you are always sweet! I seldom wear white, but I would love to. I need to lose some weight first! I loved the shoes and the bag is amazing!!!!! You look sweet and beautiful!

I looks mighty WOW to me, and I am a New Yorker , for what ever that is worth or not..
However I am not sure hot the lovely cotton would have help up folder in the suitcase. I am not of fan of synthetics in general, but when I travel they are my best friend.
LOVE this dress, and the scarf too. Sweet but not precious ..the fit is Wow, & sometimes wow can be subtle…
adore your taste.

I see the 50s with this fun and flirty dress. But by adding a silk scarf to your neck you brought it into the 70s and the 70s are currently huge now. Fun bag too.
Have a great rest of the week! <3 Ada.
Oh yes most certainly… I cannot resist uniqueness. And this dress is certainly worth buying. It looks fantastic on you. I think you rate it too low. It really suits you. Clever to wear that scarf and those bright blue shoes. Where do all these different colour shoes come from? They all look new and patent leather (my favourite).

Ha ha! Have you not seen my closet of shoes?
http://suzannecarillo.com/its-all-in-the-details-organizing-your-closet-accessories/
When my nieces came and stayed one said she counted 120 pairs of shoes…but there are more in another closet and downstairs. Probably I’m close to 160 pairs. Yikes!!!
These are some of my best 10 minute shoes. That’s right…they are good for a whole 10 minutes before I need serious medication or non stop martinis. So they are car/restaurant/car shoes.
I saw that storage post again and wept again. I have a lot of shoes but never 160 pairs and never would I be able to store them in our tiny house.
I adore my closet (truly!) but it is a bit scary knowing I own so many pairs of shoes/boots. I’m a sucker for often buying them at thrift stores.
it’s a really cute dress, fits you like a dream, love its print, and it looks light and comfy, so, yes, I should buy something like this!
You look gorgeous, and love your tapestry bag, such a perfect accessory!
besos
Lots of your Madmen vibe, but on the summery sweet side. I think it’s the sleeves. Very cute, fun for low key summery days, but I agree … not much of your usual dash. Pretty though.
Very sweet and cute. I like it.
