Saw some amazing artwork today, just incredible that I'd like to share with you by some Canadian artists.
http://www.zaneturner.com/index-zane/ - paints oversized super close expressive portraits in wax…with vivid surreal colours that literally jump off the canvas due to the heavy use of layer upon layer of wax. The wax is so thick the paintings looked like relief sculptures.
http://www.apolloniavanova.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=90&Itemid=171 - one of the most disturbing pieces there…a doorway made out of black hanging hair. Not sure if you saw the movie The Ring, but the girl had lanky black hair and this really reminded me of that. You had to pass through the hair to get to the other side of the door. Totally creeped me out.
http://www.adamcolangelo.com/?page_id=16 this is one of the pieces I would have loved to have bought…the photos here don't do it justice. It is copper that has been chemically altered either with vinegar or a blowtorch and then pieced together. The colors were mesmerizing. I loved his work.
http://www.lynnjackson.ca/work/ - the unusual choice of material is what made these baby clothes and teddy bears evoke a strong gut reaction…they are made out of metal that is knit or crocheted.
http://www.jenniferwigmore.com/html/life_paintings/ - for those who know me I think this painting says it all…
http://www.laurieskantzos.com/Laurie_Skantzos/Paintings/Pages/2010/ Wonderful colors and shapes – that seemed to float. Would have been perfect for our dining room (sigh)
http://www.peterbarelkowski.com/index_files/Page476.htm Stunning use of color to relate isolation and loneliness. Very dreamlike.
There were so many more unique pieces and gifted artists…if you get a chance to stop by it's at Exhibition Place in Toronto till Sunday.
