We are on my third instalment of the beige asymmetrical skirt that I thought I’d never like. Here is outfit #1 and outfit #2. It won’t be the last outfit I create with this piece. The possibilities are endless.
Both the skirt and sweater were thrifted at the same store on the same day. It’s a bit like winning the thrifter’s lottery.
Shame my luck runs out when it comes to 649 and Lotto Max. The most I’ve ever won was $20. I try to take comfort in my thrift wins to balance out my lottery losses. It’s the little things in life you know? At least that’s what I keep telling myself.
Neither of these pieces would normally draw me in but I was willing to give them a try, another bonus of thrifting, it opens your eyes to new possibilities. They work perfectly together with my very old boots.
The outfit isn’t fussy but still has a bit of a punch.
I have a feeling my friend Sylvia from 40+Style might really like this.
She is a big fan of asymmetrical and neutrals.
Here we are when I went to visit her in NYC a couple of years ago.
Sylvia did a Style Interview feature on me five years ago. You can see how my style has evolved since then…
This is a quote from the interview that I still firmly believe today,
“Confidence can carry off any outfit. Confidence comes with self acceptance and loving yourself. If you can do that, you can wear almost anything you like, no matter your age.”

Wear Beige Without Blending In 1 Skirt 3 Outfits
As you may have guessed now I happily relinquished two skirts from my wardrobe to make room for this new comfortable, chic, chameleon.
I’ve never had as much success thrifting sweaters as I have this year. Normally it is challenging to find quality sweaters secondhand. Not this year. Each of these sweaters looked like they had barely been worn. The treasures that await you in your nearest thrift store will astound you.
Which outfit was your favourite?

I like the new version. That geometric knit top is very cool.
However, the plaid straight skirt, cardigan, beret and brogues are SO DAMN CUTE!!!!!

I thought that about the sweater as soon as I saw it. Kind of has a 60’s groove to it.
Funny enough I would still wear many of the outfits I put together from 5 years ago. I just wear much more vintage now.

the asymetrical pattern of the sweater together with that skirt is pure art!
no blending in ideed!
interestingly i had the same with sweaters this year – i bought 6 very different, chic, almost unworn and fitting me(!) ones at my big trift trip in last november – never had such before, good sweaters were hard to get 2.hand (beside of the heavy norwegian kind).

Isn’t it funny how thrifting seems to go in cycles?
I was trying to shrink one of those massive heavy sweaters recently. It didn’t shrink enough for me even after washing it in super hot water and then popping it in the dryer. It is a very cool hand knit sweater vest I got secondhand though and I still think I’ll be keeping it.

This is definitely my favourite, Suzanne! I love, love, love that sweater with its arty geometrical pattern. And yes, your style has definitely evolved. Mine has too. I think that’s not only unavoidable, but also essential if you’re in any way interested interested in fashion. And thrifting does allow us to try out things we’d otherwise give a wide berth. As for thrifting sweaters, it’s the other way around for me, as it seems my luck has currently run out. Well, that’s thrifting for you, isn’t it? xxx

I agree, evolving style is part of the fun. And shopping vintage or thrift offers so many opportunities to spread our creative style wings.
Hopefully your sweater thrifting luck will change this year. I found that often with thrifting it is feast or famine.

Oh, my! This outfit is FAB-U-LOUS! So chic, so artsy. You’d fit in any fancy place with this. It makes me happy to see you expand your repertoire. We all need to grow.

The geo top is fabulous with your cream skirt! And yeah, finding them on the same trip is a kiss from the shopping gods, My personal favorite is the solid ivory sweater – you evoke Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, always pure class.
It is fun to look back 5 years, and your outfits then are equally gorgeous. xox

It’s that asymmetrical hemline that makes the skirt so fun, Suzanne!!
I’m surprised you haven’t paired it with something colorful yet. That should be the next one….

It’s funny but something about this skirt makes me want to avoid pairing it with colour. I can do it and probably will but I think I liked the idea of going a totally different direction from what I normally take.

You really did hit the thrifter’s lottery! That geometric sweater has such a flair, even with the muted colors. I think this is my favorite of the three looks!
Melanie says
Very cool and chic, Suzanne. The geometric top pairing looks very deco to me, a la Poirot. It’s a big adjustment for me to see you in beige, but you look smashing. It just proves you can wear anything. Your confidence remark is right on.
Señora Allnut says
I’m really enjoying your posts on wearing beige and admiring your skills, because I consider it as a challenge. You’re actually encouraging me to try even the most unexpected styles when thrifting!.
I’m totally amazed by this beige skirt, so versatile, and even elegant and cool!. You make it look fabulous. I think it’s because of the leather texture and the interesting assymetrical shape. Love your style!

I cannot choose. I have been going over and over the three, but I like them equally.
Perhaps a slight preference for the left one because of those awesome purple boots. But I know you are selling them, so that outfit needs updating if you want to wear it.

You know which boots I’ll be wearing with that now don’t you? The blue snakeskin ones : )
