I've been a little MIA lately.
At first it was because I was buried in work and stuff I needed to get done before our vacation to France on Friday.
Then it was something entirely different.
This was the arm candy collection I wore yesterday on my birthday.
I spent 14 hours in the hospital emergency with acute debilitating abdominal pains. Basically the worst pain in my life. Ever. Even when I put my back out and couldn't stand or walk this was worse. I had a case of the silent screams. The ones you see on the movies when people open their mouths but nothing comes out? Yeah that was me for the first four hours at the hospital. I couldn't walk. Had to be pushed around, keeled over at the waist.
After 4 hours and 4 morphine drips through my IV that did nothing whatsoever to quell the pain 2 shots of dilaudid directly into my vein finally did the trick. I came down from the "what is your level of pain between 0-10" and mine was 15 to the level of pain that was tolerable around a 5.
Although I was tentatively booked in for exploratory surgery to see what was going on (2 ultra sounds later they still had no idea) my pain subsided enough to put that idea on hold until I could talk to my Dr. and see if a more drastic plan of action was needed. I left the hospital with "diagnosis unknown" against the Dr.'s orders to be kept overnight. I pretty much need to be strapped down against my will to stay overnight in an hospital.
I hate…I mean HATE hospitals. When I was 5 and had my tonsils removed I screamed and cried literally the whole time and my Mom embarrassingly recalls that I called the Dr. a few choice names (insert swear words that no 5 years old should know here) to express my displeasure with the whole thing. Since then I can't step foot in one without freaking out on the inside.
Three summers ago I broke my elbow and didn't go to the hospital for 3 weeks to get it checked. In fact when I finally went to see my family Dr. after 3 weeks she was the one that insisted that I go to the Emergency. So you see…it takes a lot before I will step foot in a hospital.
I've been dealing with "lady issues" for over a year now. I have kept thinking that I could avoid a major surgery and would be able to slide by any hospital stays. After yesterday I have to reconsider because don't want to be spending 3 days out of every month at the hospital filled with drugs. This is the second severe episode I had. I didn't go to the hospital for the first one.
So…the trip to France is now cancelled. Postponed until later this summer. I have an appointment next week with my Dr. to decide on the next steps for me.
If you were wondering why I haven't been around visiting blogs or posting that is why.
I am coping with the pain management now so hopefully I will be back to normal in a few days.
Now you know the worst birthday I ever had.
I figure it can only get better after this now …right?

So sorry to hear about his Suzanne. Hope you are feeling better.

Oh, Suzanne, you poor thing! Sounds like you might need to see a specialist, but you must get this fixed before anything gets worse. When I had my appendix out, it took two days of observation before they took me to surgery – my appendix was in the wrong place so it didn’t show up on the scans. They did a laparotomy (“a little look-see”) and found my appendix inflamed. But the morphine worked for me, so I was in a daze the whole time!
Good luck, and please don’t let your fear of hospitals stop you from taking care of yourself.

Awh, Suzanne, so sorry to hear this. The pain must have been so very bad, and for this to have happened on your birthday, and right before France. I know it sounds lame, but I’m wishing you a Happy Birthday and sending you a hug, and cake and balloons!

So sorry to hear about all of this Suzanne. Sending positive healing thoughts your way, and hoping that the doc’s can get everything figured out soon so you can be back on your way to that amazing trip. And better to get all this figured out here at home than to have been on your trip and then get sick. This way when you go, you’ll be able to enjoy it fully!
xx

Suzanne dear~I am so sorry to hear about your pain and the stress you have been enduring. This does sound like a horrible way to spend your birthday. Sorry to hear that your trip had to be postponed. I know how much you were looking forward to it. I’m glad that it’s still on the horizon to look forward to as you deal with health issues. Hoping for an easy, painfree answer for you as you work with your dr. Take care and you’ll be in my thoughts and prayers.
xx, Heather

Oh, no! I’m so sorry to hear this. I thought you were strolling the streets in France, instead I saw this post. It kinda makes me mad at the universe. You’ve had so many challenges lately. Mathematically this would be the time for a chain of good events to happen. I really hope you’re feeling better and that the postponed trip will exceed all your expectations.

Oh no, girl, I’m so sorry. I totally understand what you’re going through – I spent one New Year’s Eve in surgery and then the following year, had to go back for more surgery on my birthday, nonetheless. France will still be there – get healthy!

Get well soon! We miss you, but understand why you are not around! We will be here when you are back on your feet!

Thanks for sharing your story Val. I am seeing a specialist next week.
My sister says I need to start volunteering at hospitals so I can get over my fear. Although after being there I think that would only make it worse.

Thanks Marla. Feeling more like myself today : )

Thanks Candida.
I agree that it would have been horrible to have that problem arise when we were away or even worse, when we are on the plane.

Thank Arash. Planning for a “real” birthday in the next while. Maybe I can wait till next year so this birthday won’t even count at all : )

Aww, I’m so sorry to hear this Suzanne. I’m an endometriosis sufferer who has ended up in the ER a few times in pain like that. I can only guess you may have something similar going on. I hope your back, the fibro and this pain all subside and you’re feeling back to normal again soon!
Suzanne says
Thanks Alison. How very perceptive of you to pick up on the endometriosis. I don’t have confirmation of that yet though so I won’t know until I see the specialist or have laproscopy.
My back and Fibro are slight annoyances when compared to the pain of the endo…if that is what it is (although I have a feeling that the Fibro makes everything 100 times worse).
Did you finally get help? If so, I’d love to hear what worked or didn’t for you. You can email me at info@bisous.biz. Any advice right now would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
