Hooray for bloggy friends!
The lovely Patti over at Not Dead Yet Style gifted me this amazing 1920s vintage dress.
How fab is it that Patti volunteers at a thrift shop? I’d be tempted to bring home a bag of goodies daily.
I’m so happy Patti chose to gift me this dress and not keep it for herself.
That is the sign of a true friend…when they are willing to give up a choice piece of vintage for you.
Hand embroidered, wonderfully cool and relaxed this is my go-to dress now that summer has re-emerged after a brief week of fall in southern Ontario.
I’m sitting in my office sweating away today wondering if I should put the air conditioning back on.
I’m not complaining though! Winter will be here all too quickly and I’m squeezing out every ounce of summer I can.
The fabric this dress is made out of is very strange, a cross between linen and cotton with a bit of rayon thrown in there.
It has a bit of a green tint in certain light.
This 1920s vintage dress is fragile and required a bit of TLC prior to wearing.
I don’t mind mending a few small holes. I feel like I’m infusing the dress with love.
What should you do when you’re very hot?
Cuddle a pug.
NOT.
They are little furnaces that shed their own body weight daily.
That’s okay. We all have our problems. She accepts me the way I am…I feel obligated to do the same, aside from that one poop incident in the dining room this week. We won’t talk about that. It is so out of character for her I almost wondered if she’d let a buddy in the back door to do the nasty and then leave. When I found the alarming evidence and called her in she refused to even enter the dining room. I think she was having some poop guilt. This was after I took her for our 5 km daily walk. Can someone say, “Passive agressive?”
I’m holding Zoë’s paws off the delicate embroidery and I’m praying that when I get up I’m not wearing half of her furry pants.
Just one last shot so you can see how cool these shoes are. A wedge heel is one of the kindest for my aging feet.
What was the last gift you were given that you really loved?
Linking up with Patti over at Visible Monday.
Patti says
Oh wow, Suzanne, this dress is fabulous on you. I am so glad you made it work, and you look like a 1920’s star! I laughed out loud at the poop guilt incident. You see, cats have no conscience whatsoever about pooping or depositing any other bodily fluids on my carpet. Next time I am getting a pug. xox
suzanne carillo says
Ha! That is why I don’t have a cat. Or rather I’m not slave to a cat ; P

My Foxy sheds like crazy!!! I’ve gotten a few hand-me-down shirts I love love love!!!!!

This time of the year Zoë is so much worse! She leaves a cloud of white fur in her wake.
Elle says
What a fabulous dress. Love the embroidery, and the simple breezy shape. I am glad a warm snap decided to visit you. Oh that zoë, a cute face if I ever saw one.
I got two bags recently, one from my daughter am done from a friend, that were so thoughtful ..
Xoxo, Elle

Yes it isn’t a shape I gravitated to before but I’m loving it now…might have something to do with the expanding belly area. Stupid after 50 crap seems to be true, well the exception would be you! So tiny still.
Vix says
That dress looks so funky and fresh I’d never have guessed it was almost an antique! You look fabulous and those shoes look far too cute to be comfy!
Isn’t Zoe naughty? She looks like butter wouldn’t melt the way she’s looking at you! xxx
suzanne carillo says
Ha ha! Her face does camouflage her naughtiness quite well.
The dress is incredible. A great find for sure.

Patti was such a dear to give you this dress, Suzanne!!
It’s worth it’s weight in gold (or pug hair)—whichever is more!!
And it’s fabulous that you will mend what is needed….we all need that!!
XOXO

I’ll take the gold! Ha ha! I can’t buy anything with pug hair otherwise I’d be richer than Bill Gates!
Michelle says
Love the dress but love the adoring look of your pup more. <3

She does know the hand that feeds her ; P
Pattim says
I just love the dress — and the shoes!!!
suzanne carillo says
Amazingly the shoes are quite comfy too. I even when dancing in them a couple of times. Lucky score!
Maggie says
Such a beautiful dress…and it looks just perfect on you! What a lovely gift to be given.
suzanne carillo says
I love having friends that are also vintage lovers : ). They give the best gifts!

Oh, Patti knows you. This dress is stunning on you. I’d never have guessed it was a choice piece from the ’20s. The colours and embroidery are gorgeous, made even moreso with your fantastic red shoes. And these photos do it all justice. Can I heap on any more praise here? Hahaha! Oh yeah, Zoe. I’m sure it wasn’t her. Heh.
suzanne carillo says
Did Zoë pay you to say that? Ha ha!
Ann says
What a fabulous dress and so sweet and thoughtful of Patti to gift it to you! She must have known you were the perfect person to wear it. The embroidery is gorgeous. As for Zoë being naughty, we had a little “wet surprise” from our cat Phoebe last week. Like always, after we’ve cleaned it up, she comes sauntering in, looking but not looking at the spot. Pets, eh? But of course you forgive them. xxx
suzanne carillo says
Cats are like, “So what? Whatareyagonnadoboutit?”
Good thing they provide us with unconditional love. Their “get-out-of-jail-free-card” every single time.
Shelley@ForestCityFashionista says
Blogger gifts are the best! That was so nice of Patti to pass that dress along to you. Your shoes match the embroidery perfectly, and the shape is great for warm fall days.
I laughed at Zoe’s “poop incident”. Sylvester is pretty fastidious about using his litter box but once or twice I’ve found a little poop in the living room and given him a talking to. We can’t help but forgive them immediately.
When I visited Mel in Vancouver she gave me an Asian robe she had farked with cartoons of the two of us on the back, and I love that jacket soooo much.
suzanne carillo says
Mel made me my favourite tote bag as well. Nothing beats art disguised as clothing.
Shybiker says
What a pretty dress. And we all need to cut our friends some slack, including furry ones.
Lana says
Beautiful dress on you – so unique and chic at the same time!
Marilee Gramith says
Oh my! That dress is NOT a style I would think came out of the 20’s! It’s so cute on you Suzanne but your great styling with the addition of that very cool hat gives the whole look even more character. Of course the shoes also add a very nice touch. Who doesn’t love a pair of ruby slippers??? (Oh Auntie Em!!)
Zoe is just a dear looking up at you with those big ol sad and slightly guilty eyes. I’m sure the poop caper was some other nasty dog’s doing!
Porcelina says
A true friend indeed – that is a darling dress and it suits you. I don’t own any original 1920s items…yet!! Make the most of that late summer warmth, the British summer has ended. Xx
Denise says
Loved this dress, Patti’s gift, so sweet! She is such an excellent friend, indeed (not only because of the dress, you have been talking about her for some time, so I dare to say that). You look very beautiful with this dress and the shoes are amazing! The fabric does seem to be strange… a mix between cotton, rayon, linen… I guess I never saw it. Passive aggressive seems a good expression for the incident last week 🙂 And I hope the weather is still good for a while! Bisous!

Such a pretty dress! That embroidery design is gorgeous. So glad you were able to repair it. Lovely things like this need to be preserved.
The red wedges are so cute. I love wedge shoes, they certainly are easier to walk (and dance) in.
My little Priscilla cat has dropped off a couple of gifts outside her box lately. And like Zoe, it is really out of character for her.
But knowing how horrible the smell of cat urine is, I’m just thankful it was solid and not liquid!

I had a great time decorating my home office with vintage pieces I picked up at estate sales : )
Anna Parkes says
Gifting vintage is indeed a sign of true friendship I’d say. The dress isn’t at all typical in style, but is gorgeous none-the-less. I love your pairing with red shoes, and yes I’m with you on the joyous comfort of wedge heels.
I remember our Tibetian terrier from my youth kindly leaving me a gift outside my bedroom door – I found it in the morning as I bolted, bare foot to be the first to the loo! Yuk.

Aw….this dress is gorgeous and knowing it’s from Patti makes it even more so! Suits you to a T and fits you beautifully!
Lucky you getting another taste of summer. Things are cooling down here way too quickly.
suzanne carillo says
I’m LOVING the weather here. I heard from my sister and apparently it snowed in Edmonton! I will not be visiting her any time soon.
Veronica Cooke says
The dress looks wonderful and I think the hat compliments it beautifully giving it a real 1920s vibe. How lovely of Patti to send it to you!
I’ve got our heating on…
Nicole says
What a lovely gift! I think you styled it well here- it looks so light and summery.
No Fear of Fashion says
I like the breezyness of the dress, perfect for hot weather. Also the embroidery is very cool. Although I prefer a dress with a fitted waist on you. Och well, an outfit doesn’t always have to emphasize your strong points right? I often shorten my legs too with cropped jeans.
The shoes are cute. And so is Zoe. Never knew she was shedding so much hair. We are lucky with Charlie, she hardly sheds.
