Although I adore pencil skirts and full skirts one of my all time favourite skirts to wear is by far the A-line.
Skirt – Anthropologie (on sale), Vest – Guess (similar in white), Hat – Handmade (DIY your own) (similar), Shoes – Nine West (these are adorable and on sale!)
3 Reasons To Love An A-Line Skirt
Comfort
There is room to move, but unlike a maxi or full skirt no excess fabric to catch on things as I breeze by.
Flattering Fit
It accents my waist and skims out from my hips creating an unmistakably feminine silhouette.
Bathroom Easy
If ever you should need to go to the bathroom quickly…this is the skirt to be wearing. I know it seems like a silly detail, but sometimes I am grateful for the simplest things in life.
Here are some of my favourite A-line skirts
I am drooling over this A-line skirt!
A DIY version isn’t out of the question, since I don’t have an extra $1600 hanging around.
Are you a fan of a-line skirts?

Come to Montana, and I’ll custom fit an A-line skirt pattern for you, and you can make many many of them. I can also teach you to applique circus performers!

A-lines are the most forgiving silhouettes ever! I like wearing long A-line skirts, you look adorable in the short ones. I must admit, I always feel most comfortable in an A-line skirt.

I love A-line skirts and all the ones you showed here are fantastic, but I will choose my favorite one, and that is the black embroidered one – so beautiful! I think you always look beautiful and elegant with every outfit you have shown, but that is my favorite ones, as I said! I agree with you, they are so bathroom-friendly 🙂 Very practical and I love practical clothes! Gorgeous Suzanne!

A-lines are fabulous – and yes, I have thought about that when using the restroom too : > Yours are lovely, I esp like the lacy black and the Autumn in Cambridge. xox

How many looks wonderful, but you can imagine that my attention is focused on the wonderful pencil skirt printed with pretty pastel colors and is part of the first look, so elegant, so lady, so feminine and attractive. The other looks are nice, but the first overshadows all others.

I am, especially on you! I love each and every outfit. xxx

Yep, I am a fan of A-line (and pencil) skirts. I’m a bit on the curvy hip side, so this cut suits me better than a fuller one. All of your skirts shown here look stunning on you! I especially liked the Autumn in Cambridge one. And as for the Valentino, it’s less in Euros, only €1143. Cute…mais trop cher.

I think the A-line is typically very flatting on a lot of people! The silhouette is definitely working on you. =)

It’s a flattering shape on you. I lack the hips to make them work.

I do love a-line skirts though most of my skirts are pencil. A-line is way more comfortable than pencil and can still be very professional but somehow I love pencil more. I love the pretty collection of your skirts.

I think reason 3 should be reason 1. I like and nod in furious agreement over reason 1 and 2 but seriously, reason 3 does it for me. And no, before you ask, my pelvic floor is fierce and not in need of any assistance; I just like speed and ease. 😉
A-line gets an A+ from me. And the black skirt and red beaded top gets a A+++++++++++++ from me.

I like so many of these skirts, the France one, the Cambridge one, of course the painterly one. The first skirt I ever sewed was an A-line and I think this is one of the most versatile cuts for any body shape. Oh yeah, for sure do I DIY of that expensive number. Yours will be waaaay better anyway.

They are REALLY comfortable–and that’s a good reason to like them! You have some lovely ones in your collection!

Loving all of your outfits Suzanne, especially the red skirt with the tiger shirt and caramel jacket and boots – fabulous. I am in love with tiger print, it’s my new obsession. I enjoyed your guide to shopping and styling vintage. You and I would have a great time together shopping. You listed all my favorite places to shop. As they say … Vintage is the New Black!

Haha! There’s always a twist. Two innocent, simple tips. Followed up with a third: “Pee with Ease.” So true, though. lol I just love the dreamy print on the skirt that opens and closes this post – it reminds me of a watercolor painting!

It’s easy to see from this post why an A-line is the most popular, and the most flattering skirt shape. I never thought about the fact that it makes a trip to the bathroom easier, but you’re right. I like wearing full circle skirts and it’s a pain to have to gather all of the material up into your arms when you have to pee! That said, I don’t know that I have any A-Line skirts in my closet at the moment.
Natalia Lialina says
You look so refined in all of these outfits! Charmant! I’m not a huge fan of such skirts on myself… yet. But things change. 🙂
ps Have a wonderful meet-up! It will be so unique! All the best! xxx

I like A-line skirts, but somehow I am more drawn to pencil. You have come up with another cute way to style this new skirt and I love all your old ones too. The Red Valentino isn’t worth the 1200 dollars I think. It is nice, but not worth that kind of money. However, the shoes the model is wearing…. fantastic.

I think A-line skirts hate me as much as circle skirts do. It’s down to the pencil skirt for me, preferably in a stretchy tubular knit.
A-line DRESSES, on the other hand — we are BFFs.

I’m with you on A-line skirts. Love them.
