Do you wear animal prints?
Or do they scare you?
Sometimes an animal print trend can be overwhelming to style.
You risk looking a bit like a cougar-on-the-prowl.
(not that there is anything wrong with that)
Cougars get hungry and need to eat too.
The older I get the more my inner cougar is starting to look like this…
Lazy much?
At this point you’ve over-tamed your inner cougar and quite frankly the only thing you’ll be getting is a passing belly rub and an little ear scratch…if you’re lucky.
Which is fine…if that’s what you’re after.
Me, personally…like Mrs. Robinson, I want a little more.
I refuse to believe all of my wild days are behind me.
Great segue into this shot! ; )

Here are some other examples of the animal print trend done well…

Wearing the animal print trend is only the tip of the iceberg. I’ve heard that 50 is the magic number for letting your Latex Lady loose.
Pass the baby powder.
Do you have any tricks to ensure that your inner animal isn’t too tamed with the passing years? Or are you happier to relax into your age with familiar, relaxed routine?
A Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the US.

I know what you mean animal print can be a little scary but you have styled it so well here! I agree your wild days are definitely not behind you! I love the way you dress; with some attitude! Great red skirt!

Thanks Rebecca! I hope you are staying warm so far…nothing like getting winter in October!

I have not fully embraced all animal prints – just leopard. I don’t know why the other prints feels so much bolder than leopard. I have a very weird mind. Love this look – those boots are gorgeous and you wear your animal print all so well.

I think leopard is the easiest to wear but snakeskin isn’t too bad. I found that out after I bought the Altuzarra pieces from Target. I think zebra might be a bit more challenging.

I think if you can’t let out that inner wild one at 50, when can you? I think it’s the PERFECT age to truly be you. I think at this stage you care less what anyone else thinks. You look fantastic in each of your outfits and I love how you’ve styled your animal prints. I like the other photos you’ve included as well. As for me, I LOVE animal prints—but as you so rightly noted, in limited doses—and have several pieces. A favorite is a coat the same cut as the Atlanta Pacific photo, only mine is purple with brown spots. I just think, “I am woman here me ROAR!”, or huh, maybe that’s the hormones talkin’.
carillo suzanne says
Ha ha! ; P I need to see this coat!

love your leopard print! you wear it well! I, too, love me some leopard print (in anything!)….I feel like it’s a nice neutral…is that possible?
carillo suzanne says
Totally agree leopard is a neutral. It sounds weird…but I’ve seen it paired with just about every colour and it always stands up. Thanks for popping by Melodee : )

I am no longer afraid of animal print. After I bought an all-over leopard print dress a few years back, I threw myself into the trend, and there was no going back! I love animal print with red, like you’ve done here. It feels fiery but chic. I also just adore Atlantic Pacific’s cuddly leopard coat atop the vibrant red and fuschia pink. Girly glamour!

Sorry, love, you’ll have to translate. What on earth is a Latex Lady?
Love a bit of leopard print (and tiger print). Isn’t it funny that women see it as sexy but loads of men are repulsed by it unless, of course, its Raquel Welch in her fur bikini in One Million Years BC?
Love you in your leopard midi with the denim jacket and beret and the woman in the red & pink with the leopard coat.
Bella Rosebud called leopard print the “Blogger’s Neutral” many years ago, she’s spot on. x

I don’t think I’ve ever owned anything animal print…as you probably know I’m not drawn towards wearing neutral colors though I do agree that animal print is a pretty bold version of a neutral color…
Sylvia @ 40PlusStyle says
Absolutely LOVE this outfit Suzanne. I love the combination of brown and always feel animals print goes so well with these colors. Although i don’t often wear animal print. When I do wear (my only) animal print top, it is with red too.

You’re so FABULOUS and animal print suits you totally. MEOW! I love animal print too. But yeah … sometimes I’m happy to settle into more of comfortable look. So funny that you brought this up right now, because I just did a few photos with some HIGH heeled zebra boots and was wondering … am I too old for these? Well, who cares? But I did a few pics with flats too, because … well …hello, comfy! 😉

When my 5 yr old saw you in the jean jacket leopard print combo she said “ooh- I like her!”- I agree- that’s a great look! Maybe that points out something Vix was saying in the comments too- how women see animal print as sexy- but Men usually don’t- maybe it shows some some sort of inner fierceness that’s a bit too wild and scary for men- but women unconsciously admire and strive to- well probably only certain types of women (and my forward thinking 5 yr old- who will undoubtedly be a animal print kind of woman some day! That image of you is now probably permanently imprinted on her subconscious as an option for ‘sexy’- not too bad an ideal I think, I try to broaden her horizons, you know, it can’t all be based on disney ;).

Really suits you well, you are definitely made for animal prints!

I love a bit of leopard print, and you certainly wear it very well, Suzanne! The blouse looks fantastic with the red skirt and tan leather, and of course your leopard print dress works wonderfully with a denim jacket. I don’t really think of it as sexy, it’s just a great print. xxx

I love animal print! Love your printed shirt and skirt suit/boots combo and you are beyond fabulous in that leopard maxi! Wonderful and inspiring pic of Helen Mirren too.

Camel, red, and animal print, are my all time favorites!!! Such a great outfit. And, yes, I own and wear a lot of animal print. It is easy to overdo, but I also think it is a fabulous neutral. It adds such interest to any outfit. Your tiger print, as opposed to the usual leopard, is stunning.

I love animal prints, from time to time, although I find that with my blond curls I have to be careful not to come across as ‘cheap’ or whatever you call that in english…
Loving the looks that you show, both the ones that you wear as the ones worn by others.
Woohahaha…. pass the baby powder…you are so funny, gal!

You look hot, hot, hot! Plus you had me giggling. Isn’t Helen Mirren so sexy?! Gosh! I love her dress! I think you look beautiful in your animal prints. Oh my gosh! I own one leopard print item. It is a headband. I have tears of laughter in my eyes thinking of your reaction when you see it this week. It is kind of crazy how I styled it. I do want leopard boots that are all the rage right now but I don’t want to pay the price.
