This me trying to convince myself that beige doesn’t have to be boring.
This sweater is one I wear often and it works beautifully with the skirt.
These insane eggplant vintage boots?
Yeah those are in my shop right now. Size 7.5. If the heel was lower I’d be keeping these babies. It’s not often you find purple boots. I should know. I’m always searching for funky boots.
Recently I came across some Dries van Noten boots with snakeskin wrapped heels. I almost screamed out in joy but being the thrifting pro I am now, I quietly and nonchalantly placed them in the bottom of my cart. No need to alert those around me I scored big time. Keeping a low profile is key in making sure I manage to get out of the store with the prize in hand. Other shoppers have been known to raid my cart when I’m not looking as I wrote here.
I haven’t tried the Dries van Noten boots on yet but I’m sure they are too high and too small so they shall be showing up in my shop in the next while.
The stuff you’ll find when thrifting will shock you. Last month I also picked up a Missoni sweater (looks like it was never worn), a mint green Escada jacket, cool Fleuvog dress shoes for my husband and a Karl Largerfeld striped sweater all at the same store. In the last year I came across; a Pucci dress, a Gucci sweater set, a few Prada shoes, Gucci shoes, a Smythe vest (sold), Ferragamo shoes, Armani shoes, Frye boots, Stella McCartney creepers (2 pairs sold) and Miu Miu boots. Some of these aren’t listed yet but will eventually be making their way to my store.
Let’s be totally honest, the only way I’ll be wearing most of those labels is when I find them thrifting. I’m holding my breath for when I fall upon an Hermès scarf. It could happen. I actually own a Hermès scarf from many years back. My husband brought it back from France as a gift probably over twenty-five years ago. Here it is…
I just need to wear it more often.
So what do you think about this outfit?
I’m kind of pumped about this version of wearing beige. It still feels like me, I think it’s the groovy boots.
I had a mini retail breakdown just before Christmas and bought some tall blue faux snakeskin boots with a manageable heel which I think will substitute nicely for the purple. My fibromyalgia ensures I’m well past the point of wearing any heel over 2.75″.
Come back to see my third version of this skirt.
I think it might be my favourite.

Like I said before, cool and sophisticated! Amazing boots and yes I, too, am always looking for a funky pair of long coloured boots but haven’t struck lucky yet.
You have found some wonderful items by designers. Today, in London I saw a pair of Armani shoes. I didn’t like them – too long and pointy – but I’m sorry I didn’t ask how much they were.
Good luck with your high end thrifting and no, beige doesn’t have to be boring; at least the way you wear it!

I’m sure with your thrifting prowess you’ll eventually stumble upon some funky boots.

That jumper is fab, I’ve become addicted to polo necks again after a long absence and the addition of the aubergine boots raises your game – I love them!
I bought some turquoise knee high python skin boots by Tod’s which I wore loads when I first started blogging but sold them when I was trying to raise some funds for travelling – stupid me!
Love the Hermes scarf – the only ones I’ve ever come across are fakes. xxx

Shame about the boots! I did the same with my vintage ’66 convertible Karmann Ghia. I miss that car but the memories I made are priceless.
Taste of France says
I love the boots, even if they don’t look aubergine on my screen, I trust you and admire the color. I think the Hermès scarf with the horses would go perfectly with this outfit. Sometimes understated has power, and this outfit does it. It draws attention to your beautiful hair instead of competing with it. Of course, variety is great, so why not vivid color sometimes and quiet beige others.
suzanne carillo says
Monitors are difficult and finicky when it comes to colours.
I agree that variety is the spice of life.

Killer boots!!! Your scarf is gorgeous—def wear it! You could even tie it on the handle/strap of purse–accesorize an accessory for more wear!!

I knew you’d like these boots ; P

I never thought grey or beige is boring. Add a little fun color and it add what I call a little electical paz.

Yeah, my style is everything but beige so it is stepping out of my normal comfort zone. I liked it though.

I’m kinda loving your exploration into neutrals. This turtleneck made of a feathery mix of soft neutral colors is exactly the type I seek. Goes so well with your hair color! Tweedy texture has always been a passion. I like this look even better than the last!
suzanne carillo says
I kind of liked feathery ; P. The sweater is soft like feathers.
Marilee J. Gramith says
Heathery not feathery. 🙂

that scarf! swoon!
again looking fab in greige! me is thinking that the colors one is wearing are not reallythe point – its always the attitude…….
yours is gorgeous!

I agree. Confidence makes all the difference. Melanie is a pro at this.

I was reading Beate’s comments and totally agree with her on the attitude. Seeing your polo neck makes me think I should wear mine more. I even donated some to charity as I’d totally gone off them. Those aubergine boots are totally drool-worth. Such a shame about the heels. I have to admit that I’ve been struggling with heels lately. These would definitely be too high for me as well. I am secretly pleased about your mini retail breakdown, as it makes me feel better about the one I had the day before I had to go back to work 😉 xxx
suzanne carillo says
Ha! Yes, we all have some little retail breakdowns. Mine is always footwear, socks or underwear. I know you’ve had some great luck finding secondhand boots and I have too but sometimes they don’t fit as well as I’d like and I resort to retail. These snakeskin boots are seriously insane. Wait till you see them!

Love the neutrals on You and that skirt is kinda special too.
suzanne carillo says
It all started with this skirt : ) Another great thrift store find.

You could not be boring if you tried! I love the beige and white combination. It’s very rich and surprisingly, I like it best when the sweater is not tucked in. The first ombré sweater is stunning too.
I completely agree with you. Secondhand shopping can really provide access to amazing designers.
Thrift stores as well, obviously. Such fun to find a treasure!
Great details.

I prefer this styling of the skirt over the previous one. The muted colours of this sweater play off your hair nicely, and the shape is very flattering. The eggplant boots are beautiful!
Porcelina says
I love those purple boots. A splash of colour certainly livens up the beige! It is not my colour, but you wear it well xx

This is so on point dear. Beige is a pretty versatile color, you can style any way you want. Love the look dear, cozy and chic boots you got there.

Such a perfect outfit! What a shame you cannot walk on these boots. I have size 38/38,5 in Europe. Isn’t that 7,5 in US? Hmmmm how very tempting.

Shoot… I had a look at them at your Etsy shop, but they are too high for me as well. Certainly because the knee hasn’t recovered yet. Gosh they are nice. Too bad.
Melanie says
Suzanne, do you have a fever? A third beige thing? Hahaha!!! But this is a good thing, something I also discovered – beige is not hell. It’s not colour but it’s not hell either. I like this outfit. I missed your second outfit. These are all great. Even if you went totally beige, I’d still be your friend. Hahaha!! But I’d bet you’d be wearing paisley neon underwear underneath.
Melanie says
I was scrolling through these three posts and thought I was posting on your third one. A result of beige-o-vision? No, Mel-slacker-vision, more like.
