Contemporary Urban Cowgirl Style
I blame part of my obsession on contemporary urban cowgirl style on my love of Westworld and more recently a series called Godless that I watched on Netflix.
If you want to see Jeff Daniels play a very evil man or Michelle Dockery escape from the luxury of Downton Abby to a remote ranch this is the series for you. It is worth mentioning that this has a strong female empowered narrative ideal for the times we are currently living in.
These patchwork boots really deserve their own post. A photo of me looking like I just won the lottery will have to suffice.
Another series I can recommend is Babylon Berlin.
If you enjoy a well written complex thriller with numerous plot twists, fabulous music, (a guest appearance by Bryan Ferry no less) great dancing, wonderful late 1920’s fashion and historical events you will love this series.
I was very sad when it ended although it seems they left it open ended enough for another season.
For the moment I make due with listening to the mesmerizing opening music when I’m doing yoga before bed.
Do TV shows or movies ever influence your personal style choices?
Have you watched any good series lately?
Linking up with the lovely Patti for Visible Monday.

Yes, those boots deserve their own Netflix series! Love this whole look. The embroidered (?) jacket is a beauty too, as are you. I just started watching Babylon Berlin last night! I’m hooked. xox

Agree the boots are killing it. Outfit is fabulous too. Love the suede and leopard belt.
I still remember urban cowboy….and that dates me! Yes. I had Frye boots then.
And who here watched flash dance and did not go out and buy a sweatshirt like that.. slightly off the shoulder..
Anyone remember Out of Africa , and the trends that that film unleashed?
And I love that bow headband that Hope wore from “thirty something” and that I saw on Cherie from Style Nudge this week, and I am loving that again…
As per Netflix, I am waiting for Billions to come back, and am addicted to shark tank…
Great post Suzanne!

We only have Freeview. It’ll be years before we get to see Westworld and Babylon Berlin (the most expensive TV series ever made, apparently) .
Your skirt is fabulous, prefect for a bit of cowgirl chic! xxx

of cause do shows/movies influence my style! (not always in a (for others) recognizable way though….. )
your urban cowgirl look is fab! and this boots are the cherry on the whiskey cocktail!
i still need to watch babylon berlin – 20´s berlin were the youth of my grandfather who often told us stories from back then – exiting, exotic stories.

I’ve heard great things about Babylon Berlin, and I’d love to watch it. But I have to wait until it makes it to Belgian television, as we don’t have Netflix. I have so little time for watching shows. That said, I am loving your boots, which are beyond fabulous and yes, they’re the kind of boots that need a post of their own. And I’m really coveting that skirt! xxx

Course, I’m a closet Cowgirl living in the country and all. I try to get away with Western fashion whenever I can. Just picked up a coral red Western leather jacket for the grand sum of $2.50. That one I will have to showcase on a post, it is just too good not to share!
The patchwork boots are the bomb!

BB!! What a coincidence. I heard about it last week and started the first season. I’m about halfway through. An interesting period in time I’ve never seen dramatized before. And the cowgirl look works on you. It matches your big personality. 🙂

those boots are Amazing!, and I love your skirt and that gorgeous jacket! (that’s my kind of ‘animal print!, mwhaha). You rock a modern cowgirl style! and the series look really appealing!
I think that Babylon Berlin would mesmerize me with those costumes!, I’ve been fascinated by many period dramas, particularly crime series, Grantchester, Father Brown, even the classic Agatha Christie’s Poirot.

I will have a look whether Netflix in The Netherlands broadcasts Babylon Berlin as well.
Love that jacket you are wearing.

You look like you’re having the time of your life in this outfit!
Media certainly inspires my style from time to time. Last week I copied an outfit I saw in a commercial. It sounds ridiculous but it was cute! (A striped dress with a moto jacket and booties, ftc)

Thanks for the streaming suggestions!
I LOVED Godless — I could watch that section of the opening credits with that billowing riding skirt looping for at least 30 minutes. I recently finished a modern western — Longmire — which has some timely themes about First Nations people vs Western development. Not a costume inspo thing, but good characters and plotlines. I actually decided to watch it after Frankie (of Grace and Frankie) mentioned it in an episode. Good cross sell, Netflix!

I’ve never heard of Babylon Berlin. Looks very interesting!

I actually started preparing for our move to the Black Hills of South Dakota long before we actually made the move by thrifting a bunch of western wear goodies. I’ve always had a thing for cowboy boots but it was fun to see what I could snag in the western wear genre.
I’ve definitely been swept up in the looks worn in various period pieces. Exploring era fashions is fuel for creative styling, particularly when you enjoy thrifting, as you well know!
The skirt you’re wearing here looks beautifully made and well taken care of. Leather is tactile, heavy and unlike any other fabrication to wear and move in. You wear it well Suzanne!

Fabulous boots! The whole outfit is brilliant.
I’ve heard other reports of Babylon Berlin so I might give it a whirl. The thing is I feel guilty watching lots of TV there are so many other things I could be doing…
Hope your week is going well.

Wonderful boots! We loved Westworld. Now we’ve moved on to Ozark – very dark but so well acted.

Never heard of that serie, but it looks real strange, fun strange. Fabulous boots!

Those boots are spectacular! Nice Wild West inspired look too. I am looking forward to the next season of Westworld, and Godless is on my list of things to watch. Is Babylon Berlin on Netflix? I just finished watching Season 3 of Broadchurch (excellent British crime drama) and Season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
