Last weekend was Canadian Thanksgiving and I decided to get into the Fall spirit and decorated with some DIY Thanksgiving Home Decor.
The above photo is a bit blurry since I took it with my iPhone but I still had the artichokes in the display which I love.
Those only last about a week and one of my little orange pumpkins started to rot (which was weird) so I had to replace those with some extra flowers. I’ve since changed up the tray again by adding in some green apples and pears.
This is such an easy and inexpensive Thanksgiving table centrepiece to create.
I bought the veg at the grocery store. The silk flowers I bought for 70% off at Michaels. They often sell little bunches of flowers together in coordinating colour schemes which is even cheaper and easier if you’re unsure which colours coordinate.
I had some old potpourri that I dumped into one of the squares of the tray, and some old basket stuffing that helped raise up some of the small pumpkins. You can also use scrunched up newspaper. Add the pumpkins, squash and candles and tuck the flowers in-between the veg and fruit.
My little tip for creating an appealing floral display or centrepiece is to group like colours together for more visual impact.
BTW…two of those candles are the fake ones and I LOVE them! They look just as good if not better than real candles and never burn down. I bought them at the grocery store.
If I wanted to I could have made the display a bit taller by adding in some of my vintage books which would have looked nice too.
Now I can just pick up the tray and move it into whatever room I like.
I also decorated my fireplace mantel for fall.
I keep reusing the same photo frames that I bought with 40% off coupons at Michaels. I used a photo of the table centrepiece for one of the images and then yes, (Mrs. Vain as my husband called me) I used a photo of myself for the other. It just matched so well with the colours and I really like the dreamy image of the photo especially after I played around with it in Photoshop and added some lens flare effects.
I decided to sew that little fabric banner. It was a bit of a pain to make but I like how it turned out, very shabby chic (or as I’m sure Melanie would say, very shabby shit! ha ha!). I found some instructions for a no sew larger fabric banner online which looks much easier if you’re interested.
Changing up the mantel is inexpensive and easy but makes a big difference in our living room.
Do you decorate for fall or Thanksgiving?
Here is the same mantel decorated for Spring, Christmas, Valentine’s

Getting me to pull together an autumn table centrepiece would be like making me tap dance nude on top of the CN Tower. (Oh, where are those mini pumpkins…) I love your gorgeous decorations. Yes, that is some fancy ass shit up there. Hahaha.
The photo of you on the mantlepiece, I was wondering if you added that washed-out photo flare before or after laundry day. Gaaaa! I love that photo!
Seriously, I wish I had your talents when it comes to beautifying my home.
Ha! I’m sure you could tap dance nude on the CN Tower. Heck weren’t you out roaming the streets of Vancouver topless lately? ; P
I was just about to say, you could easily tap dance nude on top of the CN tower and then I read Suzanne’s comment. Well, now you know you don’t have us fooled at all.
Hahaha… I have an image!
Oh how pretty. I’m a little nuts I know but I like the look of flowers and veg that are just on the edge of rotting right before they start to get mushy and smelly. Yours are very fresh and beautiful. Almost enough to make me rethink my autumn aesthetic.
Very pretty center piece! Mu house is fully decorated for Halloween and we don’t really decorate much till Christmas since we go all out for Halloween.

Love these Suzanne. although if I were to try to do this at my house, the candle flame would catch on the paper and whoosh would go the house ..
I love arranging platters, and i will go as far to say I am good at it.. Cooking is just not my thing,
Love following your dialogue with Melanie. This platter is insanely lovely.
You are entitled to be Mrs. Vain. Photoshop…now just learning.. sort of… on par with my cooking skills, sadly.
Love this post!

oops the mantle, I alluded to it, but I love it, and it is a cozy and lovely spot in the house!

You have a flair for decorating Suzanne, I remember your beautiful Valentine’s display on your mantel. I love decorating too and change with the seasons. I’m glad our Canadian Thanksgiving is early and makes fall so festive. LOVE you autumnal fashion photo! I haven’t taken any photos of this years decor yet, but I plan too.

Back from vacation and subsequent cold, getting caught up on what I’ve missed . . . this is a lovely centerpiece you’ve created and it makes a very nice photo as well.
Photos are my favorite way of decorating, mostly family photos, and Angel really likes having pictures of me on the walls, and I don’t mind at all (maybe another Mrs. Vain?)–once in a while friends will ask, “Why do you have photos of yourself on the wall?”….I don’t even know why people think that’s weird!
Well, of course I adore every single bit of this home decorating post. That centerpiece if divine! I love how you used the tray so it can be carried so easily around the house. I also like your use of dividers, I haven’t tried that trick before but I’m going to be using it a ton! Thanks for sharing all this with us. Oh, and the banner is awesome as well as your photo, and we all know Robert loves it!
I love this centerpiece and great sewing!
Very beautiful. I love decorating and am notoriously bad at it. Luckily I can hide behind the excuse that I don’t have time for it. I go to the florist and have her do it.
With the painful story about that dress, I would put that picture up too.

Your cornucopia tray is beautiful! I really appreciate you breaking it down to show the separate elements. Providing the base of the potpourri mixture is very clever, and the rest are grocery store staples. The artichokes are lovely additions! We aren’t hosting Thanksgiving this year, so I won’t get the opportunity to decorate my own table, but maybe I’ll show my mom and we can put something pretty together for the family table!
