One Dress Three New Looks
This is a continuation of my last post where I’m trying to decide if I should keep this full flare midi dress. Any retail purchases that come into my wardrobe which aren’t purchased secondhand need to prove themselves. They require versatility and the ability to blend seamlessly with what is already in my wardrobe.
These are the three outfits from my last post…
Here are some more creative ways of styling this gingham dress. Since this is actually look number four that is where I’m starting…
One Dress Three New Looks #4
It’s a simple look but I like it.
I’ve added a little scarf…PUG ALERT!
I avoided cutting my body in half with a belt. It creates a longer leaner silhouette when you don’t break the pattern. This dress comes with a fabric belt which is what I’ve used.
The shoes…{sigh}…the shoes. Aren’t they fabulous? I got them on super sale from Mod Cloth last year but was waiting for the right dress and right weather to bring them out.
I’m still waiting on the right weather to show up but at least I’ve found the right dress.
One Dress Three New Looks #5
Shirt dresses are easy to layer up. I’ve added a funky thrifted purple shirt and my wide Obi belt.
This works as a transitional outfit when it is too cold to wear the short sleeve dress on its own.
One Dress Three New Looks Outfit #6
I pinned this outfit with a dress styled over a skirt and loved it so I was excited to create my own version.
Did you notice how the rose directs the eyes to the waist to emphasize the red skirt?
This is one of those very rare outfits when I’m not wearing anything vintage or secondhand. I did make the fabric rose by hand and I also altered that red gingham skirt with some trim and iron on embroidered patches.
This is an outfit that would look better in motion.
Pop back soon to see the last of my outfits and if I chose to keep the dress.
Which was your favourite outfit?

A beautiful dress! I love the attire with a beret!
Thanks Mia : )
You’re not making it easy, Susanne, but one thing’s for sure: you must keep the dress! I’m loving the simple look with those divine shoes and the adorable pug scarf, but my favourite must be # 6, where you’re wearing it over the red gingham skirt. I’d never have thought of that in a million years! It doesn’t happen very often, but when I’m not wearing anything vintage I’m feeling a little bit weird. Funny thing is that even then people assume what i’m wearing is vintage … xxx
I can totally understand that you don’t feel quite like yourself when you’re not wearing vintage. We define ourselves by what we choose to wear. Choosing vintage makes a statement.
Love the dress! Gingham is so hot right now. I like it styled all the ways that you have shown here too. I wished my imagination stretched that far.
I crushing over your feature wall too!

Ah…my office wall : ) A labour of love. That is one side…the other side is totally different, filled with estate sale finds.
I did a post on it when I first finished it. I’ve changed it up a bit since then.

I really like this dress! I’d totally wear it. The dress under the skirt is the most unique and unexpected look, so I’m definitely drawn to that one, though I definitely love those red heels you’re wearing in the other outfit!
You’d be too hot layering up where you live ; P
Three more clever uses of the dress!
Outfit number two is my favourite, I love the floral/ gingham clash and the colour of your boots.
Did you ever follow The Uniform Project where a blogger wore the same dress in different ways for 365 days? http://theuniformproject.com/upweb/#!about
Now we all need to know if you’re going to keep it! xxx
I didn’t follow that blog but I had a quick look. Incredible! Thanks for sharing the link.
I can do this for a week but beyond that and I think I might go insane.
woww, you’ve created some fabulous ensembles, all of them are lovely, but my favorite is number 6. Doubling gingham is doubling fabulousness!, and I love that red rose directing the eyes to the red gingham!. Also love the purple shirt under the dress and the accessories, brilliant!
You look gorgeous!
besos
Thank you : ) I knew you’d like the purple outfit.
woww, you’ve created so many fabulous ensembles!, I love all of them! one of my favorites could be number 6, because doubling gingham is doubling fabulousness! And that red rose is a perfect accessory.
I have a weakness for layering, and also for purple, so number 5 is also a favorite of mine! It’s brilliant!
besos
Girl!!!
That last outfit is super amazing!! I wouldn’t have thought of that per se, but I think it’s my favorite so far. Maybe because it’s so unique and creative—just like you!!
XOXO

Can’t wait till I see your own version.
That dress is too fabulous not to keep. Love those 40s style shoes and the pug scarf. But my fav look is the red gingham skirt worn beneath the dress. Brilliant!

Thanks Theresa : P
i have to applaude the way how you handle your retail buys – gorgeous idea to check how the new item will fit into the existing wardrobe! and photos are a great helper at this.
not to mention the huge benefit for us – you show some very chic combinations in the last two posts! inspiring!
i would buy that dress! ;-D
xxxx
Ensuring it all works takes so much effort! LOL Which is just another reason I still prefer vintage or secondhand. I don’t feel I need to justify my purchases so much.
I really love every look! I finally found a gingham top I love and will receive it this week. This dress is fantastic on you and i really love each way.. the double gingham, the blue platforms, the color underneath and especially the pug scarf.. oh my! I need a shih tzu scarf, shirt, sweatshirt.. in a big way!
hehe!
Have a great week!
I love that you took one item and found creative ways to wear it..

You have me sitting on the edge of my seat. Three more great outfits with this dress–you MUST KEEP IT! It seems like it could become a real staple in your wardrobe. You definitely have the amazing footwear for it. And a pug scarf! How cute is that???
What a helpful idea to style up a new purchase a bunch of different ways when you’re on the fence about it. I have a lot longer comment that rambles too much for a comments section, so for now, just know that this idea has sparked a new way of looking at retail for me.
Thank you!
Hugs,
Sherry
Again it is hard to choose, I like both top styling best because the red gingham skirt is a-symmetrical, for me it doesn’t look right. If the hem had been straight I would have loved it. But don’t take my view on styling too seriously. You know you are way better than I am. I could do with your eye focussed on my wardrobe.
And I disagree that a belt with this dress is wrong. Really, it is fine. I hope you keep the dress.
