For our anniversary we took in the Tim Burton exhibit at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto. It was FABULOUS! I am a HUGE fan of his work. We own every one of his stop-motion animation films which are simply out-of-this-world. Each a wonderful whimsical nightmare come to life. It must truly be fantastic to imagine something, paint or draw it, then have someone make maquettes of it and breathe life into it on screen. The ultimate vision brought to life.
The exhibit follows his life from a boy of only 10 or so to present day. From a very early age he had his particular unique visions which you see repeated time and again throughout his entire body of work.
His use of colour or lack thereof is genius.
The details that go into each character is incredible. From the brushed taupe slightly worn velvet of the waistcoat to the polished antique brass pocket watch. Every detail well thought out and executed in a precise yet "slightly skewed" nightmarish fashion.
If you get a chance and want to explore the inner workings of someone who lives breathes and eats creativity…check out the exhibit.
"Visions are worth fighting for. Why spend you life making someone else's dreams?"
