Day 1 Outfit Visiting family – Promenade des Anglais

I wanted to look a bit dressy for visiting family that I haven't seen in a while but still be comfortable for a casual walk along the Promenade des Anglais where Robert and I often walked when we had a place there.

Simple classic style. That is why I love vintage items. This 1950's cotton dress is perfect.

The big hat? I won't leave home without it in Nice. I need to have my face and head covered when in the sun.

Also doesn't it have a bit of a vintage French vibe to it?

I bought the dress at a vintage market last year. It has become one of my go-to favourite frocks.

Now I'm off to a nice stroll beach side and maybe a light drink…á la prochaine!

I'm in the south of France for the next 10 days visting family and I thought I'd share with you what I'll be wearing. ( I accidentally forgot to include the 2 hats & one other dress in this photo. My bad. )

My motto this year for packing is KISS.

Keep It Simple Stupid.

I don't do a "capsule collection" nor basics that I can mix and match. I do complete outfits. And often when I go away I'll actually take photos of the outfits so that I know what it is going to look like and what accessories go with it.

This year, for whatever reason I've been liking my outfits less cluttered and simpler than what I would have packed in the past.

I'm hopeful this is going to make my bag lighter.

A quick break-down of what I'll be taking:

1 pair of jeans
1 pair of shorts
1 A-line skirt
6 tops
2 maxi dresses
1 vintage dress
1 kimono style dress
3 pairs of shoes
2 sun hats
1 cardigan
1 vest
1 cross body bag (large)
1 very small cross body bag
1 back pack

For the next 11 posts I'll share with you each of my outfits and where I plan on wearing it while we are away.

I'm starting out with what I'll be wearing on the plane…

Outfit #1

It is going to be a long flight in economy and we have a stop-over in Frankfurt. Comfort is key, but I don't want to look like a bum when I get there to see my in-laws.

This maxi dress from Banana Republic is made of jersey so it is basically like wearing PJs in public.

I always travel with a large cross body bag that is perfect for magazines and the scarf I tuck inside to use as a pillow or in case the plane is cool.

I'm wearing a watch and a very small necklace. Nothing bulky or heavy for accessories. Also nothing I should have to take off to clear security.

This cardigan by Anthropologie was a brilliant buy. It is going to work with everything else I bring on the trip and keep me warm while walking through the airport.

I'm wearing flat sandals here hoping that means I won't have to remove my shoes at security. I always pack a little pair of socks in my handbag just in case they want me to remove my shoes. I grosses me out thinking of all the other people's bare feet that have been walking on that floor.

When we arrive in Nice I'll be able to take off the cardigan and the dress is sleeveless perfect for the warm weather that I hope will be greeting us.
