A couple of weeks ago I picked up my husband from his long day at work at the GO station (commuter train) and he came out with a large bag from The Bay (an iconic Canadian department store that has since been bought by Lord and Taylor).
I was surprised to see he'd bought something there since it's not his regular place to shop. He prefers Ted Baker, Harry Rosen or Brooks Brothers.
When I asked him what he'd bought he said shoes.
Now if you knew my husband you would understand that this could very possibly be true. He is a shoe hoarder. As you can see this is just a small glimpse of his vast collection…
I asked him if he got them on sale and he said, "No. The salesperson says these would never go on sale."
He wanted them and that was that.
Then I gave him some flack saying he should only buy retail if it is on sale and buying at full price is for suckers. He quickly put me in my place by saying he could spend money on whatever he felt like. At which point I knew enough to keep my trap shut. If he wanted new shoes, heck who am I to say no? After all I buy new shoes… ahem…cough, cough…rather regularly.
So when we got home he brought the bag into the kitchen to show me his amazing new shoes that he just had to have to add to his collection.
He let me open the box.
Seemed to me I recognized that brand…
Ta da!
Shock and awe.
Before you go thinking my husband has suddenly started wearing ladie's shoes these are my size…7 and not his.
I had eyed these babies up the week before in a magazine pointing them out to my husband. That, and a scarf…which I also received : )
It has a map of the world on it. Cool right?
It is actually pretty enough to hang on a wall in my office.
But I'll be wearing it.
Not hanging it.
Let's get our priorities straight here people.
And now I present to you my first outfit with the "surprise!" radiant orchid strappy sandals.
Top & handbag Anthropologie (old), Jeans – TJ Maxx (super old), Necklace – vintage, Shoes – Vince Camuto
And then, because I'd managed to cut my feet off in every photo I took outside (hooray me!) I had to take photos inside that actually showed my shoes…the starting point for the whole outfit.
I am very excited because I think I might be able to walk for an hour or more in these. I always manage better in boots and these are very similar to boots fit-wise.
I quite like my husband's new shoes : ) So much so that I went out and bought some similar black ones by Calvin Klein a week later.
Needless to say I will not be nagging him the next time he comes home with shopping bags.
When was the last time someone surprised you?
