While we all know Christmas can be a bit of a depressing time of the year…especially for those who don't have lots of cash to throw around (which is pretty much everyone lately) it's important to keep things in perspective and remember that the best gifts don't cost a thing.
I had a conversation with my Mom about 3 weeks ago and asked her how her Christmas shopping was going. She said she felt that she couldn't spend the amount of money on everyone that she wanted since times were so tight.I suggested that she not buy anyone anything and instead write a letter to each person telling them what they mean to her. I know…Oprah suggested it…but I really thought it was a great idea.
I was delighted to open my Christmas card from my parents and find a 3 page hand written letter from my Mom. Reading it brought back so many precious life memories and made me feel incredibly special and loved. I'm not ashamed to say that more than a tear or 2 escaped my eyes while reading it. It filled my heart with love for my parents and all that they have accomplished in their lives and how they sacrificed for me and my brother and sisters.
I plan on using this precious heartfelt letter as my journaling in a mini album and some scrapbook pages. I want this to be a Christmas gift that I can look at and cherish regularly. The best gifts really are free when they come from the heart. I love you Mom!
