Spent the day with my girlfriend exploring some of Queen West.
Have you ever been in a store that sells only ribbons? 27,000 different ribbons and trims? Mokuba on Queen St. West Toronto is a real experience into the possibilities of ribbon. Stuff that literally you couldn't even dream of. New lace ribbons that could pass as vintage lace to the most savvy of buyers. Extraordinary trims and lace an velvet so rich that you could easily picture it on any of King Henry's robes.
We stopped in at about 5 different small galleries on Queen West. Saw some amazing work made with embroidery and bounty paper towels and embroidery and subway wrappers. You really had to get close to realize what it was. Very unique.
There was an interesting piece about punctuation at the same gallery that took out the words of the text and just left the punctuation which became the authors signature. It was very cool. I don't know how someone thinks up this stuff.
Yummy fresh drinks at the Thompson Hotel lobby bar trying to spot George Clooney or Brad Pitt were in vain. Lots of what appeared to be assistants to the stars were running around with their free gift bags though.
Topped it all off with some amazing Thai at a little place on Adelaide called Khao San Road which has the best tofu I've ever eaten and pretty darn great fresh rolls too.
What a great way to spend a lovely Thursday in Sept.
