Outfit Ideas For High Tea
Most people buy a dress for a specific occasion. I buy a dress and then search for an excuse to wear the dress.
This dress is going to High Tea and it’s taking me along for the ride.

I scored this beauty on a massively good thrifting day along with two other dresses and quite a few other secondhand treasures. The thrifting Gods were with me that day my friends.
It is an ABS dress by Allen Schwartz which apparently retails for around $350-$450.
I paid…a whole lot less than that!
There are no fabric description tags however it feels like silk and the neckline and lower bust are trimmed with mini faux pearls.
There was a dry-cleaning tag attached to this and it is in immaculate condition.
In this heat am enjoying the fact that it is loose and yet shapely. A rarity in dresses.
I’m busy searching for the very best place for high tea for this dress.
I am a sucker for high tea dresses/outfits and have amassed quite the collection should I suddenly be faced with an intensive week of non-stop high tea emergencies. You know how that goes.
Outfit Ideas For High Tea

I think this would have been the perfect outfit to wear to the Queen’s Plate.
Shame I found it the week after the Queen’s Plate.
I’ve never attended that particular horse race before but I have gone to horse races while visiting Prince Edward Island and bet a few times.
I’m not a gambler so this it very out of character for me. I always feel there is something else I could have done (thrifting, obviously) with that $10 rather than gamble it away.
Here I am making my totally random selection based on the name of the horse. Yes, I’m impulsive scientific like that.
And winning! No, not a million bucks, I think it was $20. Doesn’t take much to get me excited.
Yes, that is my natural hair colour. Well, aside from the purple bits.
Are you a gambler? Have you been to a horse race? Did you win anything?
When was the last time you bought an outfit and then had to figure out somewhere to wear it? Or am I the only crazy doing that?

Wearing A Poncho In Summer
Are you a fan of ponchos? Did you wear one in the 70’s? (For those of you that are old enough.)
Can you guess which one is me?
If you guessed I’m the one in the middle wearing the poncho you are correct. The gal in the grey is a friend and my little sister, wearing the same pants as me, is three years my junior. I would be seven here and she is four.
My Grandma used to make most of our clothes when we were kids. She was very keen on pantsuits at the time. I am positive we had a matching button up top that went with these pants. My Grandma was very frugal and always used the same pattern and fabric for my sister and I. We were dressed like twins. It drove me nuts. I am sure my totally unique-unto-me personal style obsession dates back to having to dress like my sister when I was growing up.
It is possible that my Mom crocheted that poncho I’m wearing.
Flash forward some 43 years…SCARY!
Wearing A Poncho In Summer
I never thought about wearing a poncho in summer before I stumbled across this piece at my favourite consignment store. I wore this outfit on my surprise 50th birthday trip out to the theatre.
This is a very weird top. It is literally a massive rectangle with a hole in the middle for your head. What drew me to the piece was, of course, the amazing colours and soft watercolour floral pattern.
I’m wearing a black camisole underneath to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions.

I don’t think this is a figure flattering piece. I’m perilously close to floaty, oversized, I’m-just-covering-my-big-belly territory in this outfit.
I do love the pattern and the colours though so I’m willing to risk looking like I’m in my third trimester. I know that choosing heels instead of flats would have helped with this issue, but I needed to be able to walk comfortably all day. Keeping it real folks!
I’ve spotted some other ponchos for summer below. I’m a bit in love with that first crocheted one in beige though I think it would look awful on me.
Do you like ponchos? Have you ever worn one in summer?
And now…for your amusement : )
