How To Wear Menswear – Masculine Clothing For Women
Do you like menswear as much as I do?
A female actress that really rocks menswear would be this fabulous lady…

There is also this smashing woman that does a great job of sporting menswear…

Or this lovely lady…

All of them are over 40 BTW…
Just sayin’.
It might be strange coming from me, because you know I love my dresses…but nothing makes me feel more badass than when I’m wearing a menswear inspired outfit.

I feel like all I’m missing is a holster in the shot below.

Chambray shirt – TJ Maxx (similar), Jeans – thrifted (sim) Boots – Miss Moos (really nice wedge booties!), Vest – TJ Maxx (sim), Tie – Le Chateau (sim), Hat – Gift (sim), Leather jacket – Danier (sim this one in blue is GAWgeous!)

Go ahead! Make my day punk!

I enjoy menswear inspired outfits because
they make me feel powerful.
Eeek.
I know.
But they do.
What does that say about society? What does that say about me?
I don’t want to think about it too much.
They’re just clothes after all.
Over analyzing details in life can rob you of simple joys.
When I see a women dressed head to toe in menswear I personally identify her as confident, creative and daring. I’d love to be considered any one of those adjectives.
What do you think of when you see a women dressed in menswear inspired clothing?
Could you see yourself wearing any of the outfits I put together below?

Note that you could switch out any of the jeans with a pencil skirt or any of the shoes for a colourful pump if you wanted to “fem” up the look at bit.
In the same sense you could switch out the button up shirts for a silk blouse (even a tie blouse) and each of these looks would still be great. I switched out the t-shirt for the blouse and some heels here.

I’ve got this whole look hanging in my closet right now…must give it a try.
Here are three more of my masculine styled outfits…
Wearing polkadots with a fedora and vest…it works!
Rocking another tie and faux leather pants.
And one last look… I think this is my favourite with the gingham and red tie.
Are you attracted to menswear inspired outfits? Have you ever worn a men’s tie?
My husband owns quite a few great bow ties and I’ve love to put together an outfit with one of them for fun, just to see if I can pull it off. I like a challenge : )

The Pants I Never Wore – Over 40 & Wearing Beige
I have a confession to make.
I’m over 40 & wearing beige.
Something I rarely if ever do.
I’ve had an aversion to wearing the colour beige pretty much my whole life. I’m a lover of colour. Not beige.
I knew if Sue Kreitzman said this,
“Don’t wear beige. It could kill you!”
It might be true.
And I believed that for many years.
Until now.
Maybe.
I bought these khaki/beige/oatmeal jeans about 3 years ago now while shopping for groceries (damn you Joe Fresh).
I got sucked into the whole, “The staple every woman needs.”
BS of khaki pants even though I wasn’t personally attracted to them.
So I bought them. I added them to my cart along with the lettuce, tomatoes and chicken stock I was picking up. Perfectly natural I told myself. Can you remember in “the good old days” when you just bought groceries at the grocery store?
Me either.
Anyhow…I didn’t wear those “every woman needs them” pants.
Not once.
In fact I didn’t even remember I had them until I came across them hiding in the deepest darkest corner of my closet where they had been languishing for years.
I got mad at myself.
Buying something and not wearing it is a waste of money. It was apparent I hadn’t tried hard enough to make them work. When I buy something new normally I’ll put together some outfits with the item right away, just be sure I want to keep it and that it works with other pieces in my closet. That day I was too lazy to do it. They were put away in my closet, folded under some other pants and never resurfaced again. Out of sight out of mind.
Until now.
Now I was pissed.
Not only were the pants telling me I was an irresponsible consumer and poor stylist, I was lazy too.
My challenge was clear.
I would show those pants who’s boss.

I sandwiched the boring pants in-between bold patterns for this outfit. I still have a bit of a feeling that the colour of the pants isn’t doing my body any favours. They aren’t “figure flattering”. It might be though that I just need to get over my preconceived ideas of what the bottom half of my body should look like. Wearing lighter colours on the bottom doesn’t “ground” you and can also add visual weight to your body.
Or maybe it is the fit of the pants.
Needless to say I’m still getting used to them.

I think I like them best here! LOL When they look like they are white because I had the wrong exposure on the camera.
Which makes me think…I don’t own any white jeans…and we need some eggs and bread…
Do you have some items in your closet that you’ve never worn? Did you buy them while grocery shopping?
