I have a bit of an altered jeans obsession.
I did the whole designer patched jeans look here…
Then I decided DIY embroidered frayed hem jeans were next on the menu…
I went on to create some doodled jeans…
These were created with black and white paint markers and then I just doodled away by hand.
Then I wanted to create something like these rhinestone jeans…
but I switched out that idea last minute for some painted splattered jeans which are less Elvis and more handyman.
You can choose to pay big bucks for these jeans, or simply do it yourself.
They are very artsy. I almost feel like I need a palette and paint brush in my hands.
DIY Paint Splatter Jeans
This is a really fun and easy DIY paint splatter jeans project. Anyone can do it.
Materials required:
Old pair of jeans
Paints (acrylic or fabric)
Newspaper or drop cloth
Old toothbrush
Painter’s smock
I picked up my “boyfriend” jeans in the men’s section for $12 at the thrift store.
Assemble some paints and an old toothbrush. You can use fabric paints, but you can also use acrylics with a bit of water added. I’ve used acrylics.
Although I show a few paint brushes in the photo, I only used the toothbrush and my fingers. Yes! It was messy! And yes! I got paint on my good shorts! : ( So be warned! Wear a painter’s smock. Acrylic paint never comes out of fabric, like ever.
Choose colours that you like and wear.
Flick the paint on by rubbing the toothbrush bristles back and forth with your thumb just above the jeans. I also used my fingers to wipe paint onto the jeans directly. There are no rules! This is freestyle!
I loaded these jeans up with quite a bit of paint so they are a bit stiff. Any stiffness will eventually disappear if you wash and dry your jeans a few times.
Here is the proof…some jean shorts I painted in 1990 which are as soft as a baby’s bum.
I still wear these cut-offs.
I thought you’d be able to see the jeans better with me crouched down like this. Instead, it looks like I’m squatting in the woods.
Have you ever altered jeans? Did you like how they turned out?
I will be taking a little bloggy break to enjoy summer, friends and family and will see you again upon my return in 10 days or so.
