Slip Dress Styled Seven Ways
My slip dress obsession started with this photo…
Before I jumped on the slip dress style bandwagon there were a few hurdles I had to overcome, I’m not in my early 20’s, I’m not 6′ tall and I don’t weigh 105 lbs.
Could I still wear such a trendy piece?
I like a challenge.
This dress would normally a resounding NO for me.
It has no waist definition, it is loose, with simple lines, in solid black…with no interesting details or embellishments, it looks a bit like a sack…boring…yawn…this dress is making me sleepy.
This is as basic and boring as I get.
Funny enough I don’t mind it. In fact, as the temperature sores above 39 C here today I’m loving the fact that it is essentially like wearing a nightgown. There are side slits as well for extra ventilation.
What do I like about this dress?
The straps are large enough to cover my bra straps, it is loose, nothing touches my body, it is very comfortable and it works with so many other pieces and accessories in my closet.
I tried this with and without a belt, and although I did prefer it with a belt, I’m wearing it without today. Belts are a big no-no when the temperature climbs above 27 C.
The belt I’m wearing is actually a scarf.
Slip Dress Styled For Fall
To be sure this worked cohesively with my personal style statement and other clothing I already own I styled the dress for Fall as a layering piece. I think I like it even more layered.
This is a total change from my usual more is more and “everything must define my waist” style. Sometimes it is good to change things up.
I don’t believe in following a strict set of rules when it comes to my personal style. I’m willing to give new trends and ideas a chance if I am able to adapt them to my own needs.
Having an open mind about your personal style and life in general allows for growth and discovery.
You’ll never know if you like something unless you try it.
When was the last time you tried to stretch your personal style?
Was it a success? Or do you prefer your set style ways?
