To be honest I thought bomber jackets were trending two years ago.
They were weren’t they?
I can’t keep up.
I love bomber jackets but they kind of hate me. Unless you have a boyish figure these can be tricky to wear. They make you look HUGE on top.
And not in a good way.
Sometimes though I will just say, “Feck that” and wear it anyway.
In fact I’m doing a whole lot wrong in this photo. I’m wearing a long skirt with a pouch on the front. Only really skinny gals, kangaroos or wallabies can get away with that.
Me no care.
I want you to stare at my paunch pouch.
It looks even worse when I put my hands in or carry my keys, wallet and iPhone around in it.
You’ve heard of junk in the trunk?
I’ve got junk in my front.
BUT I’ve got on cool socks.
That makes up for it…right?
I did wear this skirt quite a bit this Fall, however after seeing these photos it is now destined for the consignment store.
It was a thrifted find. I don’t stress about parting with them.
Someone else can have junk in their front.
You may remember the satin bomber from the “I’m hot for Ryan post“…
The only thing this satin bomber jacket is missing to be on trend is a bit of embroidery. I don’t think it would cost too much to get a design on the back.
Something racy and wild.
But dignified.
Flowers?
Donuts?
Elvis?
PUGS???
How about pugs and flowers? Ooh! Now we’re talkin’!
What do you want embroidered on the back of your jacket?
Patti…I’m calling you out. I already know you want your cats on the back.
Shybiker says
“a boyish figure”? Guilty.
My bomber-jacket has one of those pin-up images from WWII with long legs and my face.
suzanne carillo says
Ooooh! Sweet!
Patti says
I love Ally’s idea! Pugs = always perfection. Maybe a Bowie tribute, or go high-end and reproduce a Van Gogh flower. You will do something marvelous, guaranteed. xox

I think this bomber jacket looks greta on you. And the skirt is so fun but I can see that the pouch is pretty useless in the front. Maybe you can rip it out and it won’t be as awkward?
I have been wanting an embroidered bomber jacket, I think back to my days in Hong Kong. I want one with flowers and a dragon!

Would love for you to stop by & join TBT Fashion link up.
suzanne carillo says
I love the idea of a dragon and flowers! I used to own a satin robe like that ages ago.
I thought about getting rid of the pocket in the front but the colour of the fabric is darker behind and would leave a mark I think.
No Fear of Fashion says
Actually, I have nothing against that skirt on you. OK if you start putting keys in it… not very wise. And the bomber jacket is great too. I have a boyish figure, oh alright an inverted triangle… And a bonber javket on me is the pits. I really liked it on your jeans too.
Greetje
suzanne carillo says
Ha! You didn’t really think I’d put my keys in there did you? (snort)
Methinks you forgot about your very UNboyish chesticles.
Andrea@WellnessNotes says
The bomber jacket looks great on you! It’s a great fit on you!
And I’m with Greetje, I like the skirt on you. Just don’t put “stuff” in the pouch… 🙂
Jazzy Jack says
I think the consensus is jacket great, pouch not so much.
What is that with those pouch pockets. Weird!
My kids love them.
Just adoring your socks! Yeah!
Xo Jazzy Jack
suzanne carillo says
I want to put a sign on it that says, No Baby On Board.
Ha!
Connie* says
Me no care. Oh you HAVE TO make a tee shirt that says that. Pugs and flowers. How about Spanials? Pancake demands equal time. You look really cute no matter what you say. Bomber jackets me no can wear.
suzanne carillo says
This is a GREAT idea! I want a t-shirt like that. Adding to my “to create” list now.
Pugs and Spaniels both riding dragons through a bed of roses. I hope the jacket is large enough ; P
Jodie filogomo says
You should embroider copies of your jewelry on the back—kinda like a walking advertisement!!! It’s a great idea…admit it!! Seriously…can you do your own embroidery? I’ve never thought about that before! As for the outfits….I like the bomber jacket…especially with the jeans! The skirt is interesting…but you could totally shorten it and remove the pouch??
Sally says
I’m with Jodie … Pugs wearing Jewellery would get my vote.
Please, don’t move this skirt on. It looks great on you. I confess, if it were mine, my hands would never be out of that pouch. Of course, you could always unpick, embroider and reattach it.
The jacket compliments your hair beautifully (your hair’s really pretty by the way).

I probably could do my own embroidery…but do I want to? Nope. That is a whole other can of worms I’m not opening.
I could shorten the skirt and remove the pouch but it is much easier to take it to a consignment store. I will spend time on vintage pieces I truly love to save them (like the dress I’m painting all the colour back on) but I won’t do that with an ordinary contemporary piece. It’s just not worth the work I’m able to find a better skirt thrifting for $5. (Oh yes I did!…on my last thrift shopping spree).
Charlie says
Very cool socks indeed! I think I’d start my own OMCG (outlaw motor cycle gang) and put my insignia on the back. And then get a motorcycle. The gang could be “The Rebel Readers” or “The Thrifters” or “The Miu Miu Mongols”. I’m sad the skirt is being consigned. I like it! If you like wearing it, who cares about the front pocket. Couldn’t you line it with fur and use it to warm your hands? Then it would certainly be a statement junk-in-your-front-trunk! You’re always gorgeous xx
suzanne carillo says
Ha! I want to be part of your Thrifters gang! We’d storm into each Thrift store and wreak havoc. This would make a brilliant video. Get on that will you?
Keeping the pocket but lining it with fur might lead someone to believe that I haven’t ahem… “trimmed” in a while.
TMI?

🙂 Love your post – you always make me laugh!
Pugs on a silk bomber jacket? 😀 Why not?!
A very HAPPY weekend to you! 🙂
suzanne carillo says
That’s what I say : ) When other people say, “Why?” I say, “Why not?”
Kezzie says
So I’d like a dalek and a TARDIS embroidered on the back of mine!!!! Yours could have pugs doing flower arranging!
The skirt is cool- I always have a paunch when I wear kangaraoo pockets- also don’t care- you appear to have no paunch and a very flat stomach!!!x
suzanne carillo says
I just had to look up what a dalek and Tardis are. Those Doctor Who fans would make a wild biker gang!
Pugs doing flower arranging? This just keeps getting BETTER!
Debbie Stinedurf says
Totally diggin’ the bomber, embroidered or not. The color is da bomb with your hair. I, like you proudly flaunt my “me no care” attitude, but sometimes when you see yourself in something in a photo you’re all like, “me no care, but dayummm…that’s gotta go”.

That’s what I figure too. Especially when I know I can do better.
Kristian says
Pugs on this would be so, so cute!
Shelley@ForestCityFashionista says
I agree that bomber jackets can make you look “chesty”, but when you leave them unzipped, I don’t think it has that effect. I have a couple that I love and I usually wear them open over a t-shirt like you’re doing in these photos. I had a long skirt (not denim) that had one of those pockets in the front, and it was ok to wear when I was 25 and very thin, but I don’t need an added pouch in my front these days either. Personally, I think your stomach looks completely flat in these photos and the pocket isn’t sticking out at all, but if you don’t love it, let it go!
suzanne carillo says
I could see you wearing a bomber. You have that “bad girl” vibe about you : )
Tiina L says
I just read about a hoodie with a pouch yo carry your cat around (http://www.japantrendshop.com/mewgaroo-hoodie-pet-pouch-sweatshirt-p-2886.html), but I think the pouch in your skirt might be a bit too small for a pug… Bomber jackets always remind me of the 80’s, I guess we all used to wear them then. Yes, it’s a rather challenging shape for a woman’s body, and some embroidery is a good idea to distract from that. How about a slogan or a phrase of some sort? “I’m not stuck in the 80’s, I’m trending again”?
suzanne carillo says
That is too funny! And strangely alluring! Ha! Sadly my pug is too heavy for this. I’d need back surgery after carrying her around all day. I do think she would love it though.
I like the idea of trending again…So many brilliant t-shirt ideas!
Lana says
I think you look great in this skirt, pouch and all. It makes you look tall :)! When I was in 8th grade I wanted a silk bomber jacket SO much, but alas it wasn’t meant to be. Seeing you in this one makes me want one again. After my shopping ban is over I’ll have to go on the hunt. I have the same problem up top, but leaving it open like you did here seems to alleviate the problem.
suzanne carillo says
Tall? Oooh…I might need to reconsider! Ha!
I’ll keep my eyes peeled when I’m out thrifting, cause heaven knows my shopping ban lasted all of 24 hours.
Michelle says
I’m going with a pug RIDING a dragon on a bed of roses or maybe a rose in the pug’s teeth?
I don’t know, satin bomber jackets remind me too much of my satin baseball (similar to bomber style) jacket that I got when I was 11 and in love with Shaun Cassidy.
suzanne carillo says
OMG! You win for the BEST idea!
So many people were in love with Shaun Cassidy. Must have been the hair : )
Liz says
I think it’s moto jackets that were trending a couple of years ago, and now it’s transitioning to bombers. I like the satiny, embroidered styles. I’ve always wanted a Pink Ladies-inspired bomber jacket. I’d probably style it with a polka dot dress, saddle shoes, and big pink hair bow. I think those are no-nos as much as your kangaroo pouch, but again, who cares?

P.S. I've also held onto items for far too long. And then I see them in outfit photos. And they're immediately tossed in the Goodwill bag. lol
suzanne carillo says
So what you’re saying is I was ahead of the curve when I first posted my satin bomber? ; P
I can so see you wearing that outfit. Polkadot dresses and saddle shoes are always in style!
nadine says
J’adore le blouson brillant, très bon look.
Tami Von Zalez says
That front pouch is all the right material in all the wrong places! But you, of course, can carry it off – not saying you are a wallabie or anything … *grins*
Trina says
I want that skirt! Pouch in the front and all, I think it’s wonderful. I just need some groovy socks.
Who can top a pug with flowers? I do hope you follow through with this idea. Mine would either have a book with a flowered teacup inside or something fun and crazy like a huge pair of funky glasses and inside the lens have words of all the things I love doing.
Samantha says
Bombers come and go and come back again….a bit like the 70’s “trend”, never really going away.
I think you should get “Me no care” embroidered onto a tee-shirt to compliment the pugs and flowers embroidered onto your bomber.
Which, can I just say, is a great fit/colour on you.
And, as someone near the “boyish” end of things, bombers look hideous on me!
I mean awful!
I look like, well…a mess!
Maybe if i could find a bomber like yours I could change my mind about them??

Samantha
P.S. Yes!! Colourful and fun socks make up for anything! XXX
Anja says
I often come across bomber jackets that I love, but they are absolutely not flattering on me, so unfortunately they are a no-go for me.
