I’ve had this fringed skirt from Anthropologie for years. It is a very unusual piece which is of course is what attracted me in the first place. I had a hard time finding a similar one to add to my post. I think this one is super cute. I found this insanely expensive one that I think would make a fabulous DIY should I come across an plain black A-line skirt at the thrift store. I also found this one which I kind of love. Like wrapping yourself in a blanket and wearing it. Although wrapping yourself in a blanket and wearing it would be a whole lot cheaper.
My fringed skirt is a warm heavy knit. Ideal for winter when paired with fleece lined tights.
I always feel sassy when I wear this. I think it is the bottom fringe. Makes me want to shake my tail feathers.
Nowadays of course no one says that. They say are going to “twerk”. Or shake that big booty.
I can assure you…there will be no twerking here.
You and my lower spinal discs are breathing a huge sigh of relief.
Just the name itself turns me off.
Twerk.
Want to know where that word originates from?
The word twerk seems to have arisen in the early 1990s, in the context of the bounce music scene in New Orleans. The 1993 song Jubilee All by D.J. Jubilee is often cited as the first known usage. The song repeats the refrain “Shake baby, shake baby, shake, shake, shake… Twerk baby, twerk baby, twerk, twerk, twerk.” It’s likely that the word was being used in clubs and at parties before that, as an exhortation to dancers. By the mid-1990s, we see evidence of twerk being used online in newsgroups to describe a specific type of dancing.
Bet you never thought you’d learn about twerking on my blog today.
You’re welcome.
The boots I’m wearing were one of the best buys I’ve ever made. Bought them at Barney’s Outlet at Woodbury Common outside of NYC. They are the softest stretchy suede and go on like socks and are just as comfortable.
Socks as boots? Yes please!
Leather Jacket – Consignment (sim on sale for only $114 with cool detailing), Blouse – Target (sim), Skirt – Anthropologie (sim), Boots – Barneys (sim)
I’m cracking up here.
Not because the wool skirt is tickling me.
Not because I’m thinking about twerking.
Because I’m trying to remain professional.
And this photo shoot became a farce when someone else stepped in and refused to leave.
Seriously…how am I supposed to work in these conditions?
Yes I’m looking away pretending I don’t see her, but she isn’t easily dissuaded.
I’ve trained her that posing in front of the camera means treats.
Big mistake!
Now she is Kim Kardashian every time the camera comes out. It’s all about her and her booty.
So what do you think of the skirt?
More importantly…to twerk or not to twerk?

You always crack me up!!
I might actually twerk sometimes, but never on camera : > Fabulous skirt and boots, and I always love a doggie-butt in the shot. She’s adorable, that one. xo
So sassy! I love this skirt. And your writing is so humorous.
Funnyyyyyyyyy. You made me laugh. But, seriously, you look FABtastic!!! I love that skirt. I would not have thought to put the animal print blouse with it and yet they complement one another wonderfully. Little Kim there is sure cute, too.
Love the skirt with the fringe, and yes, I think you should have a go at twerking – shake that fringe! I can’t do it at all (not for want of trying…) I just can’t seem to move my arse quickly enough, I think it may be too big. Oh well, I can live with that!
Such a cool jacket and boots too. And Zoe is a cutie pie – bet she can move her bum quicker than me! xxx
Absolutely charming in every way! Love the skirt, the werk story and the boots. xxx
the twerk of course 🙂
That skirt is very sassy indeed!
What a fun and unique skirt. This skirt would be perfect for the office and still have some fun. If I lose about 40 pounds and you got tired of this fun skirt…please send it my way. And thank you for your lesson in the history of twerking…I had no idea where it originated 🙂

Haha! Lil Miss Kim K and her photo bombing booty! 😉 What a fun creative look! Of course I was hoping for a twerking tutorial, but oh well. ;P

What a gorgeous, special skirt and I love how you styled it. I’m a bit disappointed by your lack of tweaking and twirling; hahaha! But Zoe’s guest appearance made -more then- up for that omission.
Not tweaking, but twerking, of course;-).
The textures in the outfit are out of this world. Just looking at this outfit makes me happy. Haha. The skirt is a dream! Fantastic jacket and boots, too!

Loving that skirt with the sexy snakeskin blouse! Twerking, with a prosthetic hip? I’d end up needing a replacement even sooner than I’m supposed to! Bet you could do it though – and Zoe, she’s definitely shaking her ass as she photo bombs you! xxx
Ooooh! I love that fringe skirt! It’s so unique!

Love the skirt, the fringe detail is GORGEOUS, and all of the other details are so rich combined!
LOVE THE SLINKY BOOTS AND JACKET. I used to do quite well and Woodbury, but not it is too far..
FABULOUS look, maybe my favorite of yours to date.
I have also had some canine interference, ah!
Thanks for the education, was wondering where that awful word came from!
Lets stay with SHAKE, SHAKE SHAKE!

You must twerk!! But I hate that word. Butt convulsion would be a more apt word. I asked a young dancer/barista at the cafe we went to with Sue if he could teach me to twerk. He thought it would not be advisable. Ha!
I love your fringy skirt here. I had a sweater a bit like that once. I want to go shopping at Barney’s too.
Thanks for the laugh here. You know we first-hand that we can enough get enough.
Butt convulsion IS so much better! I’m stealing that.
You look lovely! And your photobomber matches your outfit so she is allowed in. I think I remember that skirt and could not figure out how to style it. Now that I see how you did it, I am so impressed. You made it look elegant and fun!

Love this outfit and the skirt is marvellous. That furry scarf goes so well with the skirt. As does the jacket. And I think Zoe is a fantastic addition to your shoot. Love her booty.
I never heard of fleece lined tights. Sounds like a great new warm and wonderful world.

They are like wrapping yourself in cotton balls. Only softer and not as bumpy. ; )
Jazzy likes to sneak into my photos. Usually I just embrace it and call her over to pose. At that point she looks at me like, “Pffft, please. I just wanted to interrupt you and tell you to get over yourself, not pose with you.”
I love the fringe on this skirt. I have a pencil skirt with a flouncy ruffle along the back, and it has the same effect on me. It makes me want to dance and shake my booty. But twerk? Never. I don’t think I have enough booty to make twerking happen anyways. And I don’t think I could take myself seriously long enough to try.
Plus, I’d keep imagining myself as the woman in the “twerking in the cake aisle at Wal-Mart” video. No thanks!

That is an excellent winter outfit. I especially love your fringed skirt. I often wear a much less expensive version of the blanket wrap skirt when I raid the fridge in the middle of the night. Come on. Give us just a teensy weensy little twerk. You know you can do it.
Such a beautiful skirt – I’ve never seen one like it. It’s fabulous on you, of course :)! No twerking for me – nobody wants to see that, and I’m pretty sure I’d throw my back out. Love the photo bomb!
Delightful skirt and perfect on you! Your small dog is so sweet! Pets always have something to do right in front of the camera when you are desperately trying to shoot for a post! ( and that’s why they are so cute!! )
Best wishes for the incoming festivities!
What a fabulous skirt! Anthropologie is one of my favourite stores!
Wishing you a very, merry Christmas!!

You’re right! Maybe you “need” the scarf! I recently unearthed it.
It’s a leftover piece from a blanket that I made. Yep. I space dyed the brown mohair blend yarn, wove a bunch of 12″ panels (the widest possible width on my table loom) then stitched together the panels to make a blanket that matched a then new couch.
Gosh, I had a lot of free time on my hands back after I quit my job at Mattel.
I wish the table loom were quieter. It makes a horrible racket when one changes the heddles. Weaving is supposedly relaxing. Not on my table loom — unless one finds Industrial Noise bands relaxing.
