I don’t know why but every year around the holidays I become a little totally sequinned obsessed. I like sequins all year round, but something about the holidays makes me think I need to be extra shiny.
I guess I like to compete with the tinsel.
When we had another overnight soiree recently downtown at the Royal York (to make up for the last one) I spotted this in a shop.
Isn’t it well styled? I wanted the whole outfit. Dress, necklace and fluffy scarf. I think this would be such a different colour for me to wear. Almost nude. It reminds me of a costume from Dancing with the Stars. I spotted this in a posh boutique and it was out of my price range. I didn’t dare try it on for fear I would fall in deeply in love with it and then would spend the month obsessing over it. This way I could make myself believe it wouldn’t have fit.
Besides, I already own this fab vintage sequinned dress…
So in my quest for sequinned happiness for the holidays I was struck dumb when I came across this vintage lovely at My Edit a little gem of a vintage shop in Hamilton. Jentine posted this online and no I did not have a problem driving 45 minutes to Hamilton to try it on.
Plus did I mention they have one of the best thrift stores ever out there? Talize. I “popped” in for 5 minutes which morphed into two hours, seven pairs of foot ware, one suede skirt, two t-shirts and two handbags later… Eeek! Good thing I’m I don’t live close to that store. It is the black hole of thrift stores. I never get out.
This beaded-and-sequinned-to-the-max vintage dress is what I will be wearing New Year’s Eve.
Isn’t the beading mesmerizing? To top it all off…the dress is silk. Silk! The hemline is an unusual zigzag.
Added bonus…I was able to negotiate with the store owner since I brought in some vintage pieces that were too large or didn’t work for me so I paid a total of $20 for this dress. A very far cry from the very expensive dress I spotted at that boutique.
I cannot wait to wear it!
I think this dress is a good indication of the kind of treasures you can discover when shopping vintage. Plus it satisfies my need for sparkle during the holidays.
Linking up with the lovely Patti at Visible Monday.
Now you’re just making me want a sparkle dress.
i love how elaborate the beading is on the dress you got—a solid wall of sequins is cool, of course, because it’s sparkly, but I prefer this elaborate design, it’s more interesting to look at!
That is also what I was attracted to. Much more elaborate.
The dresses you own are dreamy! I love your NYEve dress and cannot wait to see it on you. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xox.
The dress you bought is MUCH better than the 1st blush pink one. Speaking as one redhead to another—You will look fantastic!!!
I’m not sure if it was intentional, but…. I’m seeing the same picture like, twenty times over and over in this post. Its the collage of all the exact same dresses.
At any rate, I like your vintage ones more than those.
Kristian thanks for letting me know about that. I have no idea what the heck happened and it took forever to fix it in the coding.
I definitely prefer the dress you bought in comparison with the nude one – it’s a real stunner of a frock, and perfect for you. can’t wait to see you wearing it!
Btw, I emailed you about the little vintage sweater (measurements, fabric, etc). And while we’re on the subject of sparkle, I do still have that pink/red silk beaded top you liked when I showed it on the blog. It’s too small for me, but I can measure it and see if it’s right for you? The postage might be heinous though, it’s really heavy! Let me know – no problem if you’re maxed out on the sparkle with you delicious new dress! xxx
Lovely dress and such a good idea to get a special sparkly dress! One thing though. Are you not going to be freezing!?
Well I’m not going to be walking outside without a coat if that’s what you mean! LOL I’m worried I won’t be too hot in this dress while dancing. AS you know, when you dance you get very hot very quickly.
This dress alone is worth driving out for. It is stunning! I can not wait to see how you style this. BTW, I am thinking more sparkles later this week. I think we are both just smitten with anything that sparkles.

The dress you ended up getting is spectacular. So much better than the first dress, which was beautiful and demure, but this one just screams “Suzanne!” How was your second trip to that hotel? I am curious to know if it worked out better for you.
Jenni
The second trip to the hotel was so much nicer. Thanks for asking. No loud noises, instead we had macaroons waiting for us in our room. Delish! Great evening and a wonderful hotel. I left with much better memories.
Love sparkling dresses! You look gorgeous! xxx

Suzanne, I am in love with your dress!1 I would definately wear this , gorgeous and sparkly! I too, love that ensemble that you showed first, had I seen it in the store, I probably would have drooled. ( ok liked it very much!), I cant believe you got yours for 20!! You will look great I love vintage and vintage inspired pieces and try to incorporate jewelry or clothing when I can. We do not have vintage stores where I live, so I appreciate your guide. I look to Etsy for many of my jewelry and brooches.

I know you would look stunning in any of these dress Jess. You have the body and the hair to pull it all off effortlessly.
Oh, oh, oh…I can not wait to see this on you. $20!!! What a buy! I know you will be gorgeous in it.
A total score!! I love it. The intricate heading is stunning. BTW…the black one you’re wearing is oh so sexy looking on you. You go girl!
I’m impressed with your restraint. I would have tried the first one on, then sold something to allow me to take it home. I’ve never found any luck at our consignment stores. Maybe I just go at the wrong time.
You need to try different consignment stores. It is definitely the luck of the draw though, just like thrift stores. I was lucky that this lady posted her dress online. Otherwise I never would have known about it.
Oh my goodness Suzanne!!! This dress is a dream come true. Beautiful. Far nicer than the expensive pinkish one. You cannot wait to wear it, I cannot wait to see your post wearing it. BEAUTIFUL.
Greetje
PS the price is ridiculous
I am so proud I scored such a deal. Makes it even more fun to wear it! : P
Oh my! Isn’t that an amazing dress !! The sequins are like oil slicks!!! I have a statement flapper-headband in this type of sequin that would look amazing with this!x
Oooh…a flapper headband!
I can’t wait to see you in it!! what a totally beautiful dress, it’s utterly exquisite! yes, the nude sequinned dress is pretty but your vintage sparkler sings x x x sorry, BOTH of your sequinned lovelies! x x x
That tinsel doesn’t stand a chance with you around! That black dress is spectacular on you; no lesser word quite works to describe it. Beyond beautiful … sleek and looks like it was just made for you.
Your beaded zig-zag hem will cut a dash with you wearing it. Can’t wait to see it!
The nude dress is a dream… your sequined dress is mwrowrow! Hot, hot, hot!
And your “new” sequined dress is simply divine… I’m super-jealous. And I can’t wait to see the photos!
This dress is a true work of art. Can’t wait to see you in it. I think I need a little more sparkly in my life!
The sequin dress is spectacular and you will turn many a head on New Year’s Eve. I agree! Vintage finds are magical, and this beauty will be treasured for years to come.
Hooray! I can finally see your dresses and not those weird montages.
I love you in that sequin shift dress and your latest addition is far better than the pink one especially with your trade-in deal! xxx
That dress is insanely totally fabulous! You are going to be out of control gorgeous on New Year’s Eve! I really loved the nude one until I saw the one you actually got…perfection.

My, oh my oh my! That black dress is to die for! It has vamp written all over it and you look amazing in it! If I were you, I’d be looking for events to go to, just so I could wear it!
The expensive boutique dress? I don’t really care for pale or ‘nude’ colour dresses….on anyone fair skinned. I think they wash the colour right out of you and make a person look washed out and bland. So the other sequin dress is hands down, a better choice.
I am in love with sparkle and shine for the holidays too, Suzanne! These looks are gorgeous and that black is stunning on you (you could rock a paper bag I’m sure!). You made quite a find with the vintage number. Your holiday decor post was beautiful, by the way. Love the fresh, modern feel of it all!
Merry, Merry!
xx, Heather
You’ll outshine them all with this gorgeous dress! Exquisite!
You’ll look more brilliant than fireworks!
I’ll be waiting to see a photo of you wearing it!
♥ carmen
Hey, co-conspirator-in-sequins! The black dress you already have makes you look like a sparkling bombshell; wow wow wow!
The new dress is just amazing; so beautiful and unique. Can’t wait to see what you ‘ll look like in it!
With my long, curly, messy hair, sequins turn out to be a disaster:-(. My hair gets stuck and tangled in the sequins. I have to wear my hair up, in a bun or so, in order to be able to wear sequined items.
Mega-doh! on my part. THIS is Talize. Jeepers. And I know how you loaded up out here too. I just have to get out there sometime. Your black vintage sequin dress reminds me of the maxi skirt you tried on, except the skirt was falling apart and at $20 was even overpriced. Oh well, that’s Vancouver for ya. I love how you go for overnight parties at the Royal York.
That black sequinned dress wasn’t cheap, I paid $80 for it, but it is in spectacular condition, truly spotless. I bought it in Kensington Market here. Not one of my usual haunts since I do find it overpriced, but I couldn’t walk away from it. Now I fear I’ve put back on a couple of pounds and am worried if I will be able to squeeze this back on my body this summer.
Let me know if you ever do make it out to Talize. I’d like to know if you stumble across any treasures like I have.
More motivation to try my luck at vintage stores. We do have some great ones here in Nashville.
You know I love that Art Deco dream in blush pink. I also love how they styled it. I would have stopped to admire it myself. And considered buying it, along with the mannequin, to display in my bedroom. Is that insane?
I’m also a sucker for sequins and all things glitz this time of year. I feel like I get to dress like my “true” (aka princess) self. Your black sequin dress is to-die-for! It cuts one fierce silhouette on your body. Gorgeous! But I understand the hesitation to don it with cookies, champagne, and party platters-a-plenty all season long. I always hesitate about whether or not to wear a belt to these parties. Like, am I going to regret this? Am I going to have to take this off for extra room after I devour these cheesy potatoes?
Your $20 score is inspiring. My goodness, what a gorgeous dress! It reminds me of Art Nouveau and Tiffany Lamps and peacocks. I love all of these things, by the way. So gorgeous! I’m excited to see you don your NYE look.
Have a very happy holiday and new year, Suzanne! It looks like you’ll be celebrating in style. I wouldn’t expect anything less!

$20?! That is the bargain of the century!!! The first dress you’re wearing is stunning, but I can’t even imagine how good you’re gonna look in the second!
