Do I look like I just spilled paint all over myself?
Good.
I have succeeded.
My goal was to look like an artist.
I’m carrying a vintage handbag and wearing heels, like every other typical struggling artist out there.
Nailed it.
I ended up taking up this skirt by hand by about an inch after I saw these photos.
Oh look! My garden has so many weeds it has now sprouted a vintage handbag!
When I was trying to make up my mind if I was going to keep this skirt as part of my plethora of birthday gifts my husband asked the silly question,
“But don’t you already own lots of skirts?”
Ha ha!
I’m scared to go into my closet and count the number of skirts I own.
However, I didn’t own a skirt that looks like a watercolour painting.
And now I do.
So cross that off my wardrobe bucket list.
Not that it was ever on there. Or that I even have such a list.
Funny thing is that I never know I’m really desperate for an item until I see it.
Which is the way with pretty much everything in life really.
I never knew I “needed” an iPhone, the internet, online shopping, call display, email, texting until I had them. Then I wondered how I’d managed to live my life without them.
Especially call display.
Telemarketers around the world are still cursing the invention of call display.
My birthday has come and gone, so no more unnecessary birthday gifts will be showing up on the blog. I still have a couple you haven’t seen.
Next year I will find out if life really does start after 50.
Don’t ruin the surprise.
I thrive on anxiety.
What items are on your wardrobe bucket list? Please…don’t tell me it is the perfect white button down classic shirt. If that is on there I will know for sure you have no clue what a wardrobe bucket list is all about.

Gorgeous, and happy birthday – and I will spoil your next year’s surprise: 50 is amazing. (I miss it). How many skirts does a woman need – just one more, I say. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xox.

Suzanne, that skirt is fabulous and the vintage vibe of the purse and shoes just kicks this outfit over the top! Love it!

this is a gorgeous skirt and I am glad it’s off your wardrobe bucket list 🙂
I think with clothes, most things on my lists are pretty boring. But I really want a tulle skirt and glitter heels that I will never have any place to wear. I probably will never buy these 2 items but I do want them.

Hope to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.

I have glitter heels that I wear all the time. They are silver and work with everything. I think you could pull those off no problem for date nights, girls night out, etc.
Also I think you would look fab in a tulle skirt! If you lived closer we could go out for tea : )

I love your posts and outfits! This one is so nice – the post, well, the outfit, too! – because yes, we don’t need things or we don’t know we need them, till we have them! True about online shops, internet then, and so many other things! Believe it or not, this morning I saw a, how can I describe it, “home made spaghetti cutter” that while you make the dough flat, it also cuts it, and I thought “wow” (I feel a bit stupid about feeling amazed and happy about that “device”) I have to say, congratulations on your pre-50’s birthday, I am sure you will enjoy this year as much as next and so on 🙂 You look very beautiful and I loved your skirt and the shoes, the shoooes, I loved them! My list? Nothing really, I guess 🙂 But we never know till we see things!

It’s always fabulous to discover a tool that will let you do two things at once. When I find a tool that lets me shop non-stop while saving at the same time I’ll be delirious.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Suzanne! I hope you had a wonderful day/weekend/week! I think you look way too pretty/chic/monied to be a struggling artist, but your look is spot-on for that girl that paints because she loves it and, surprise, makes buckets of money! Who knew?! Good call on shortening that skirt a hair. It’s a pain to do, but I bet looks fabulous! The right hem length always has me puzzled; I often get it not quite right. I think I might volunteer to weed your garden!

Thanks Sue : )

My wardrobe list of things to buy probably would bore you! Actually though, I think I’ve got most of the basics I need, and am now feeling more like I can add the flashier fun stuff. Speaking of fun- this skirt most definitely is that!

We all need some flashier fun stuff : ) Well I apparently need a lot of it.

Happy Birthday, gorgeous lady! Hope the celebrations last at least a week and that you continue to be showered in presents.
Fab skirt, you must love it to hand hem it. Never the nicest job in the world. The bag is gorgeous, don’t let Curtise near it, she’s got a thing about tapestry bags.
I’ve had a pair of tan leather, cork soled sandals & a pair of original 1970s platform boots on my wish list for years and I’ve found both in the last 12 hours. I could dance with joy!
xxxx
suzanne carillo says
I wanted the hem to be invisible so that is why I chose to hand stitch it. It doesn’t look half bad. Mind you, for a seamstress like yourself you would probably spot it a mile away.
So excited for your finds! I can’t wait to see them.

As always, you make me laugh. Happy Belated Birthday! I love that gorgeous, watercolor-y skirt. And the shoes and bag are also super fab! I am not sure what’s on my wardrobe bucket list but I love the idea. I’ll have to give that one some thought!

1. Calf high, distressed, dark red leather cowboy boots with white stitching and no more than a two inch heel. I’m not sure if it’s fair to put on my bucket list as I had these when I was in high school and I’d be preppy up top with my oxford shirt, crewneck sweater and wool pleated skirt, rocking these boots.
I really miss them.
2. Comfortable, sexy black and nude heels that never go out of style.
Hahahahahaha for your hubby’s comment about having a lot of skirts already. Bwahahaha!
suzanne carillo says
Ooh…good thing we don’t go shopping together, I’d fight you for those red boots.
I had light blue suede boots with long suede fringe around the top and a 2″ heel in grade 10. I was kind of known for those boots. I’m still kicking myself for getting rid of them.

Grrr…where’d my comment go?! Hope this doesn’t duplicate. Anyway…you look artistically chic! Love the outfit and especially those shoes.

The shoes are quite the consignment store find…but they were still pricey.
I did get a duplicate of your comment, but no worries. I don’t know why my wordpress doesn’t like you.

Hope you had a fabulous birthday, Suzanne – and don’t fret, 50 will be a breeze!
Love the skirt, fabulous colours, and Vix is right, I’d pinch that bag off you if you turned your back for a second!
No, I don’t wish for a white shirt or anything as dull as that! I’d love to stumble across an iconic piece of 1960-70s design one day – in a charity shop where no one has heard of Thea Porter or Ossie Clark and it’s marked up at a pittance of a price, of course! Ahh, a girl can dream… xxx
suzanne carillo says
Since you are often out thrifting I bet you’ll stumble across one eventually. I have high hopes with your brilliant thrifting skills.

You look like you’ve just had a gorgeous fingerpainting session and hurriedly dressed for a forgotten appointment. With those heels, bag and smile you can carry it off!

Every once in a while I picture some article of clothing in my mind–a pair of red heels, or jeans in the perfect shade of green, or comfy sandals that still look cute and match everything–and then I go on a quest for months until I find the exact thing that I imagined. I really like that cross-stitch patterned bag. Normally I don’t even notice purses, but that one really caught my eye!
suzanne carillo says
This bag is one of my favourite estate sale finds.

Love the skirt and how you’ve styled it Suzanne. Men don’t understand how us girls think about clothing. We have to have them in all colour, patterns and designs. I had to laugh at his question. Have a lovely week. xo

I agree with Darlene – you have the coolest, loveliest wardrobe. I’m going to have to give the idea of a Wardrobe Bucket List some thought.

I don’t have a “Wardrobe Bucket List” (except for a fabulously sexy, perfectly fitting bra) as I am like you – I don’t know I want/need something until I see it (I’m with you on the smartphone, call display and the internet).
I chuckled at your hubby’s comment about you already having a lot of skirts! Men shop completely differently than women, and most don’t see the point of having more that one or two of something – you wear it until it’s in tatters then replace it.
I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
No Fear of Fashion says
Well, if I missed it… Happy Birthday. I think I said it in advance.
On my wardrobe bucketlist is asuit by Haider Ackermann. Too expensive to ever get enough wear out of it. Especially as his suits are quite out there. So you cannot wear it too many times. But soooo good.
And your skirt is indeed a skirt worthy of the artist you are.

I want a 1940s dressing gown, either like Katharine Hepburn wears in Bringing Up Baby, or the one Gene Tierney has in Leave Her To Heaven. I found one once in a shop but it was £150 and I was skint at the time. Regret it a bit now.
I like the skirt, interesting to hear that you shortened it. I’m starting to play more with hem lengths and such x
P.S. You don’t look a day over 35

Isn’t it funny how the right item convinces us that 1) we have a clothing bucket list, and 2) that this particular item just so happens to be at the top of the list? I feel like clothes shopping brings out my most delusional, senseless qualities.
I think this skirt is postively dreamy and therefore perfectly bucket list-worthy.
As for your overgrown garden sprouting vintage handbags? I’m so relieved to live in an apartment after accidentally buying a house with overgrown gardens and trying (unsuccessfully) to prune it into submission each summer. How does one accidentally buy a house with a Little Shop of Horrors garden? You buy it in March, when everything is covered in a foot of snow. Thank you, home ownership, for convincing us that renting is for us. No vintage handbags growing through the cracks in this apartment complex! Though that doesn’t seem like such a bad deal, really…

I like the whole look, but I am glad that you shortened the skirt a bit (afterwards) . A skirt that is too long definitely makes you (and most people) shorter, especially when not worn with high heels. Other than that: really nice.
I don’t have a clothing bucket list.
