When I bought this skirt on sale from Anthropologie I never thought I would challenge myself to create the loudest, wildest, most alarmingly colourful patterned outfit I've ever worn.
But it happened.
Seems that I may need to lay off the chocolate in the afternoon.
If you are prone to seizures don't proceed beyond this point. You've had fair warning.
Your senses are about to be assaulted.
I either really love it
or I am a half a step away from being known as the "way-way-beyond-over-the-top-colour-blind-eccentric".
One thing I know for sure is…if I had seen this skirt from the back I never would have bought it.
What is that mess???
That inept pattern match-up makes my ass look lopsided. I am hoping that seam is meant to be on the side. I need to look at the skirt again. That just looks plain ridiculous from the back.
Such a shame too because my Fluevogs look damn cute from the back.
I'm trying to think of a fix for the back now. Maybe a black ribbon running down the back. Anything would be better than that. I've worn this and the tags have been removed so there will be no returning it now.
What do you think about the outfit? (not the back of the skirt…I know that is just wrong).
1. Love
2. Hate
3. Quite frankly I don't give a damn.

First–as a total owl-whore–that purse is FABULOUS!!
I love the outfit. But then I have no fear of pattern matching!!
suggestion for the skirt back–instead of ribbon how about sewing a chunky industrial zipper up the seam (fake it–just put it on like a ribbon) I’ve seen a lot of zipper details like that lately.
Utterly fantstic, pattern mixing to perfection! Love the owl bag! x
What a fantastic idea Tamera! I love it.
Tamera is brilliant! Must be all those owls!
I love the pattern mixing! As much as I love colour, I feel I’m not that brave with mixing items that don’t appear to have a common thread. You’ve done it here, and it really, really works. Do you have any secrets other than chocolate, of which I’ve sworn off of?
I would prefer to be mistaken as eccentric than to be mistaken as not-eccentric, so I say carry on! Though they should have known better as far as that seam in the back of the skirt!
Hey better to have a bold poin of view than no e when it comes to fashion.
i like the pattern mixing! xx annette http://www.avintagesplendor.com
I’m intrigued and I don’t quite know why …
I think it’s great you tried something different! I love mixing patterns so I like it. =D
Maybe if you don’t like the seam you can just turn the skirt so the seam hits the side and isn’t so apparent?

Bold, yes. Brilliant, absolutely. The colors tie in perfectly and the size of the patterns complement each other well.
Ah ha! You may not think they have anything in common…but what makes it work is that the skirt has the same orange in it as the sweater and they also both have black. The green is the new colour that didn’t exist in the sweater.
After working for years making coloured patterns for scrapbooking I’m able to spot any kind of possibility to combine patterns you might not think would work together. That and chocolate of course.
Perfect…just what I was going for : )
I wish this worked but there is a slit in the back seam. I’m going to try to go with the exposed zipper idea.
Stopping by from the WIWW! I LOVE the print mixing here! So much fun! You could sew a long black zipper up that seam? Could help the strange half heart situation?

I love this outfit!!! It’s bold but the colors are go so well together. When I saw it on Bloglovin, I thought it was a picture you found in a magazine. As for the help part – you don’t want to take any sewing advice from me since I can’t even hem a pair of pants.

From the moment I clicked onto your blog I thought, now that is a brilliant mix of patterns! So I guess my answer is LOVE it. I’m thinking afternoon chocolate is a fantastic idea. Be the way, the shoes and bag are also brilliant. Where on earth did you find that bag?
I bow to the queen of pattern mixing…I am apparently a total amatuer. Love it! And of course you’re eccentric. You’re too cool to be anything else.

Everything in the outfit is Anthropologie except the shoes and the black blouse. The shoes are Fluevog. That bag I got ages ago from the Anthropologie that used to be in Beverly Hills.
Yes, Vicki you and Tamera had a great idea that I’m going to use. Thanks for popping by!
Wow! Courageous! Anthropologie is my favorite store and I find great items there. I haven’t had your bravery, however, in mixing. Nice experiment.
Careful that you don’t sit down on a leather chair with that zipper at the back. You might damage it.

Normally I don’t do pattern mixing. I usually find it too loud. This I like very much, although I would have skipped the bag as being just too much. But as I said, I am a newbie at pattern mixing.
And I think you are too hard on the back of the skirt. Your bum does not look stramge. Quite the contrary.

I am delighted to say that I added the exposed zipper at the back and I LOVE it! Thanks to Tamera I am now happy with this skirt again.
I myself wondered about the handbag…but I figured if I was pushing my limits I might as well fall over the cliff all the way.
WILD! But you can wear it, really looks good on you. That’s why fashion is so individual. I might look ridiculous but you look fantastic–derriere and all!!

BTW – the purse and shoes are fabulous, and really complete the look!!
You got me weak in the knees with this outstanding mix. Love it!

I’m getting such a Zandra Rhodes meets Betsey Johnson vibe from this, Suzanne!!! Deliriously divine. Oh to have a modicum of your brazen spirit when it comes to colour and print. I swear, you’re one of the goddesses I worship in this arena xoxo
Thanks Sheela…this was the craziest loudest outfit I *think* I’ve worn to date. The skirt looks so much better now.
I had to look up who Zandra Rhodes is. I do see Betsey Johnson and I like it. She has a wonderful energy about her.
Thanks for the link back to this. I’m totally loving this and am sure you’ll have fixed that back seam by now. As long as you have a story running through it all works as far as I’m concerned. All these pinks pull this into a cohesive look and I love it x
