As a little nod to the gold of the Oscars I’m wearing a gold floral lace top from Anthro I picked up on super sale. I used to think floral tops screamed Grandma.
My Grandma used to sew all of her own clothes and she often chose florals for her blouses. This shot was taken on her 91st birthday. I miss her dearly.
I’ve moved past the idea that florals are only for Grandmas and love florals anywhere, all the time. I spotted this boho blouse that is drop dead gorgeous for less than $13. This one that would suit everyone also has me drooling. Although I’d be hard pressed to wear this stunning bold one with jeans I’d wear it in an instant with a high waisted full skirt as well as this one with the unique Audrey Hepburn collar. So retro chic!
Back to the Academy Awards…
We managed to see most of the films nominated this year in anticipation of our annual Oscars party, however Robert was called away last minute to Ethiopia…so the party is nixed. I cannot party without my barman.
Ah well. I’ll still make myself some fancy popcorn and me and Zoë will critique all of the red carpet outfits together. You’d think she would be quite easy going on the whole fashion thing as she wears the same furry pants every damn day, but she is surprisingly harsh with her judgements. I’ll let you know who she winds up picking as her favourites.
My favourite films were Boyhood and The Grand Budapest Hotel. I pretty much liked all of the films nominated for best picture though.
Favourite actor… would have to be Eddie Redmayne. He was unbelievable but I think probably Michael Keaton will win.
Favourite actress…I didn’t see the film with Julian Moore yet but I think she is a brilliant actress and will probably win. She was incredible in Maps to the Stars.
I apologize for the gratuitous pug butt.
Once again…Zoë insists on stealing all the spotlight.
These were taken before she had her emergency surgery. She has dropped some weight now and looks quite trim. I’m sure that’ll only last a few weeks though. She takes after her Mommy in that regard.
By the way I’ve finally broken down and joined Instagram. I’ve spent the last week just trying to figure it out. I don’t feel like I’m winning that battle yet, but I’m forcing myself to use it. Now I’m one of those annoying people taking photos of their food. So come and see what I baked and cooked this week (exciting I know!) plus more cute pugs pics (of course) and a bit of shopping and some jewellery designs I’m working on.
Who are your favourites for the Oscars? Or are you more interested in what they will be wearing?
How do you feel about floral tops? Fab or frump?
Happy Oscars!
PS You might like these other posts about florals…my floral dress, fabulous floral blazer, some great floral shoes, and my floral jeans .

Definitely an Oscar worthy outfit! Love the gold floral top.
Shybiker says
What a pretty top! You look great.
I’m an avid cinemaphile but was disappointed with the choices this year. The best film of the year by far was entirely snubbed (“Get On Up”) and the nominees are lackluster. I’ve had Oscar parties in the past but I couldn’t muster enthusiasm for this year’s crop.
carillo suzanne says
I hadn’t even heard of that film… I had to look it up. Need to check it out.
Patti says
I love floral blouses too, Suzanne. Especially the dark florals like you were wearing today. As usual, Zoe does love the camera, and she works it so well, little sweetie. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xo..

You look beautiful in jeans. I love the gold. I spent the day in a much too short and threadbare nightgown. So, I am being lenient with all of the dresses tonight. Anything looks better than what I am wearing. I adore the sweet photo of your grandma. And I love the top she is wearing!

Threadbare nightgowns are the most comfortable in the world : )

I am a fan of floral and never really thought of it at as grandma territory. I have not watched any of the films this year and skip award shows (they always put me to sleep!). What a bummer about no Oscar party, I enjoyed your pics from last year.

I’ve gotten over the notion that floral blouses and prints are for ‘grannies’ even though I now fall into that category and I absolutely love them, especially the one your wearing. How did I miss that anthro find (haha). I actually love any top that can be paired so easily with jeans and dress them up.
I too, was home with a bowl of popcorn while hubby had to make another quick trip. My favorite film would have to be “The Theory of Everything”, although I haven’t seen The Grand Budapest Hotel. I was happy to see Julian Moore win, her performance was amazing.
So now that they’re over, any favorite gowns? I must say, I absolutely loved Oprah’s soft pink, Cinderalla style gown.
carillo suzanne says
Funny enough I’d never seen this blouse online or in a store before. I have a feeling it was a return because it was the only one there.
Was the Julian Moore film super sad and depressing? I want to see it but I don’t want to cry. LOL
My favourite was the red dress that Rosemary Pike wore.

I think when it comes to floral top, the flower itself has to be correct. I noticed that some floral can look like my late Auntie’s house (oh, yes, she loved her flowers.., from couches to curtains) and some can look very tasteful. So, its either a hit or miss kind of thing. I like yours, I think the golden lace bits adds glam and steer it away from Grandma department. Honestly, I have yet to watch any of the movies contending this year, a bit behind. I’ll catch up soon 😉 and sorry to hear about your cute pug, Zoe 🙁 Enjoy your week, Suzanne, I’m off to check your Instagram!

What a wonderful tribute to your grandma! And the top is really pretty, too.
I just joined Instagram, too, and have been trying to figure it out. My plan is to post pics that don’t ‘fit’ with the blog, maybe some of the same themes, maybe just random observations of whatever comes along, sort of ‘life lately’ type of thing.

Anything but a granny is this little gold number.I think it does depend on the floral, some are just too prissy I find. Hope you and Zoe enjoyed the Oscars.
Curtise says
I didn’t realise floral prints had any association with age – I’m slow on the uptake, clearly! Anyway, it matters not a bit to me, I adore florals, big or small, any colour, just love them, and your blouse is a beauty! That’s a lovely photo of your Grandma, and never apologise for GPB (Gratuitous Pug Butt)! xxx
Vix says
That’s a cute blouse and looks fabulous with the skinny jeans. Love the sleeve detail.
Your grandma looked a lovely lady. I don’t recall mine ever wearing florals, she was cashmere, camel and tweed all the way (which is what I associate with older ladies).
The only nominated film I watched was The Grand Budapest Hotel, I adored it.
Never apologise for a pet photo-bombing! xxx
carillo suzanne says
Isn’t it interesting how we associate certain things from our own childhood?
Sandra says
I feel honoured to see Zoe’s butt, I know with cats they show you theirs when they really like you! Your Nana looks so lovely, I have a lovely memory of my Nan in a white fur jacket and velour slippers (not shoes, house slippers, comfort and sass) You look gorgeous Suzanne, I love your gold/floral top, jeans and beautiful hair – I’m crap as usual with any films however I really want to see The Grand Budapest Hotel, I just need to get over my current addiction to RuPaul’s drag race x x x
carillo suzanne says
You will LOVE the Grand Budapest Hotel. It is just so weird, freaky and funny.
Anne the SpyGirl says
Your Grandma looks so sweet. YOU look beautiful in your lace top!
I did my 3rd annual Oscar sketching during the red carpet broadcast. It’s a crazy art performance piece that I perform — live sketching as I watch the telecast. I was at the hub of a multimedia extravaganza: standard TV, ABC’s live streaming on my laptop, Twitter on my tablet, Instagram on my phone.
One of my “I’d like to wear that” items was the pompom dress thing that Ellen Goosenberg wore (Documentary Short Subject co-winner). Jury still out on my favorite dress — Lupita Nyong’o and Zoe Saldana were stunning!
Anne the SpyGirl says
Oh, forgot to thank you for linking! Lovely to have you join the Flower Power Party!
carillo suzanne says
I saw some of your sketches. You are so brilliant at capturing the moment. Many years of training I’m sure.
Jennifer says
I haven’t jumped on the floral train yet, but this looks fab on you. No need to apologize for a pug butt to me. They’re the cutest dogs
carillo suzanne says
Well you’d know : ) You know what they say…once you go pug… you never go back.
déjà pseu says
Love that floral print and the sleeves add such an unique detail. That gold color looks wonderful on you.

You look beautiful as you always do! And so is your charming Zoe! I absolutely love the photo of your grandma. I did not used to love florals but now, just like you, adore flowers on anything. I suppose we’re getting olda! :)) I actually thrifted a gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous (yep – 3 times) floral blouse last weekend. Can’t wait to style it!
I don’t follow Oscars these days, but I do hope you enjoyed your little informal party with Zoe! xxx
carillo suzanne says
Oooh…can’t wait to see the new blouse : ) You’ve been doing amazing with your thrift finds lately.

I love your stunning gold lace top, so classy yet boho at the same time. It goes well with your skin tone and your jeans fit your legs perfectly. A fabulous look!

I’m going to call it classy boho now ; )

I love this on you! The top is so pretty, and I was all set to check it out and buy it myself. Love the colors with your hair and the mix of lace and florals. And if florals were meant for old ladies, I woud certainly be an old lady looking at the array of florals in my closet ! Looks great!

The blouse is beautiful and nicely romantic. I like the photo of your grandma. Those women knew how to sew and the importance of a goof fabric!
Shelley@ForestCityFashionista says
The blouse is very pretty – I’m not big on floral prints except maybe on summer dresses (my latest post features a bunch of vintage dresses with floral prints). I used to watch the Academy Awards religiously until a few years ago when it just got too long and boring. I had seen most of the nominated films this year but didn’t think any of them were amazing, although I liked Birdman and Boyhood. I enjoyed Grand Budapest Hotel for the visuals and crazy cameos.
Zoe may wear the same furry pants every day, but she does it with panache!
No Fear of Fashion says
Lovely top. And those pumps let the top shine even more. As for Oscars… That is something far away in the distance. Too much other things going on. You and Zoe can do the judging for me.
And I bought a floral top too, just after New Year (with Ron’s money…).
