Have you succumb to the allure of high waisted wide leg pants yet?
They’re everywhere and my menopausal body is loving them.
I tried this look years ago with limited no success.
While I don’t hate the looks above I don’t love them either. Those jeans didn’t have a high waist and visually truncated my body. When I dress my goal isn’t “meh” so those jeans made their way back to the thrift store.
What’s changed since then?
My legs didn’t get longer or thinner. Quite the opposite actually.
When the Menopause Fairy stopped by and left presents of thicker thighs and a belly with some night sweats and hot flashes under my pillow last year I wasn’t exactly thrilled.
Why couldn’t she just leave a quarter like the tooth fairy?
It all seems so unfair.
Since she dropped off those unwanted gifts, high waisted wide leg pants are my best friend.
Tip: The high waist balances the cropped pants and wide leg.
The pant waist is almost as high as the belt on this insanely cool patchwork leather jacket I thrifted a few months back.
That was one of those, “EEEK! Give-me-that!” secondhand shopping moments.
This jacket is every reason I love shopping vintage and thrift.
Do not look for this jacket in my Etsy store anytime soon. It’s found a home in my coat closet. Yeah I said it. I have a coat closet. Don’t judge.
I wasn’t sure about these corduroy pants when I came across them thrifting. It seems that the previous owner took it upon themselves to make them shorter, almost like culottes. Although they look like 70’s vintage they are in fact contemporary by Simons, a Canadian clothing store from Quebec.
The shape, comfort and colour of these high waisted wide leg pants won me over. The added bonus that they work with everything else in my closet isn’t lost on me.
Remember this outfit?
Yep.
To make room in my closet I purged two pairs of skinny jeans that made me feel awful about my body. Ba-bye.
Tip For Wearing High Waisted Wide Leg Pants: Wear boots in the same colour to visually lengthen the leg.
Since I fell head over heels for these pants I scored another pair of high waisted wide leg jeans secondhand I’ll share with you soon.
Do you own any high waisted wide leg pants?

Big yes! to these high-waisted pants, Suzanne. The shape, the color and the fit are all perfect. I haven’t found many at the thrifts — maybe they’re too cute and getting snapped up! Love the patchwork jacket too, it’s very you and makes a seriously fab outfit. xox

I do love high waisted pants! My pair has sadly gotten rather threadbare from much wear- so I think I need to make a new pair!
Yours look great and surprisingly versatile too.
bahnwärterin says
you look fabulous in this corduroy pants!
the cut is very flattering AND the color is made for you. no wonder it goes with everything in your wardrobe. the patchwork jacket is super cool!
me is not wearing pants at all – except the hot ones on a hot summer day (low waist). BUT! if i go on a winter hike or skiing i have (since ages) loden knickerbockers – and this are high waistet and wide because its much WARMER. and then there are some long black loden trousers i wear for outdoor work in winter – made before WWII for men they are very high waistet and roomy…..
i did not own a pair of skinny jeans/pants in the last 30 years – this trend missed me at all after i had my fun with them as a teen.
have fun with your new trousers! xxxxx

I remember you telling me about that jacket – it’s absolutely fabulous on you – I wish the one we had had fitted me, gah! You’re totally right not to sell it, you need it in your life!
Those cords look fantastic on you, a great outfit and even better than you feel comfortable and confident.
Other than that amazing burn-out velvet pair you sent me (and a few catsuits) I don’t wear trousers, for years I said I wanted a pair of original 1970s bell bottom jeans but when I found a pair and wore them I didn’t feel like me. Skirts and dresses forever. xxx

I think the jeans looked fine–we don’t see where the waist hits. But if you don’t FEEL fine in them, that’s what counts.
I have some high-waisted pants that are vintage by dint of having been kept in my closet for 25 years, since I was resisting the then-new trend toward lower waists. The pants were too high quality to get rid of. My CEO suits. Perhaps one of these days, some HR person will misread my résumé, think I am young enough to be hiring material and actually give me a job interview and I will have an occasion to wear my beautiful, high-waisted pants. (How is it that jobs for “senior” positions want only 5-7 years of experience? And how is it that 25 years of experience can ever be “too much”? HR: “Actually, we were looking for someone more clueless” or “We’d like somebody who still has a lot to learn.”)
I have some wide-leg linen pants that I cropped because all that material just felt too heavy. I like them much better cropped.
The menopause fairy gifted me in very different ways than you. She moved the fat from my ample butt up to my waist, which was always small and flat. No longer! Now my butt is flat! I, too, would have preferred a quarter.

That menopause fairy is one cruel fairy . I have always loved and worn high waisted wide leg pants as they always worked best on me. You wear them well . The patchwork jacket is stunning , easy to see why its now in your coat closet.

That patchwork jacket is a 70’s classic. You’ve paired it beautifully here and these colors are so flattering to your hair color as well,Suzanne.
I also love your jaunty cap. I have several in this Newsboy style. Wearing a hat has the power to add so much panache! Perhaps a hat also has power to draw attention away from the dreaded menopausal shift…

Yes, these look great on you and I can see the difference between these high waisted ones and the previous flared jeans. I have a couple of pairs of these high waisted, flared trousers and I love them but not the gap between footwear and bottom of trouser… I’ve yet to wear mine with long boots but will give it a go this week.
I love your patchwork jacket – beautiful!
I’m sorry to have to tell you that even post menopause the bloody hot flushes don’t go away. I still get them occasionally and I’m 65!

Lately I’ve found myself drawn to trousers, and wide-legged ones in particular. I’ve never felt good in skinnies, so I kind of gave up when I could no longer find any decent bootlegs. I haven’t tried high waisted cropped trousers like yours yet, but seeing how fabulous you look in yours, I might keep my eyes peeled. That jacket though! Beware, as I might come and steal it from you! xxx P.S. I have a coats wardrobe too 😉 xxx

Yes, I do. Denim ones, can you believe it. My only jeans. Your trousers look cool and the color is gorgeous. I didn’t know it was weird to have a coat closet. I also have a skirt closet, a dresses closet etc. I’ll bet you have that too!

I now have a couple of pair too!! For some reason I just adore the different silhouette so I don’t look like everyone else out there.
Coat closet? Doesn’t everyone have one of those? I also have a sweater closet!!!
XOXO

You make me laugh. Your comic ability is so natural and amusing. On the subject of fashion, I love high waisted wide leg pants. They float my boat.

woww, you rock those corduroy trousers!, and I think they’re really flattering and look so fabulous with the ‘insanely cool patchwork leather jacket’!. Glad that you purchased them, they look really comfy and so modern!. Love how they look with boots, such a nice tip!
I’m a huge fan of high waisted trousers, but wide legs are still not my cup of tea. Perhaps I have to find a perfect pair for me!.
besos

Indeed, very smart of you: wear boots in the same colour as your trousers. I found that out too. This look is indeed very flattering. Congratulations on your jacket find.
Do I own high waisted wide leg trousers?? Hahaha, as you know I am stocking them heavily.

Love those cords with that patchwork jacket! I have a pair of high-waisted wide leg cropped jeans I’ve been wearing for several years – I really like the silhouette, and the high waist is much more flattering than the low risers of past years. Skinny jeans have never really worked for me unless I layer something longer over them so I’m quite happy to see there are more wide-legs available out there.
Sherry Dryja says
Those pants!!!! They are A+++ and suit you so well. I’d love to find some cords in that color. But then I’d want your boots too!
I love a good high-waisted pant, but only if it isn’t so high that it cuts me off from breathing and digesting food. I have one pair of jeans that come up to my bra line. They work well as long as I haven’t eaten a giant meal or have monthly water weight around my belly. Otherwise, it feels like I’m wearing a corset. I have other pairs that don’t come up quite so high and they feel much better.
Hugs,
Sherry

I love gauchos, they are so cure and show just a little boot, which is always awesome

Love this outfit on you! Great colors first off, especially with the patchwork jacket. I don’t have high waisted pants, but I do have a pair of wide-leg culottes that I enjoy wearing for a different look. The other outfit looks great with the bold red jacket and purple print.
Happy New Year!
