Can you wear 1970’s style over 40?
Remember that old saying, “If you’ve lived through that trend once, you should’t try to do it again?”
Me either.
Total malarky as my Mother would say.
Personally I like a challenge.
When I was thrifting recently I stumbled across these insane patchwork boots
that look like they came right off that 70’s Show.
I knew they were coming home with me. I could figure out the details later.
I mean come on! How many people do you know that own patchwork boots?
Exactly.
That is why I had to have them.
I’m weird like that.
And at $12 I wasn’t breaking the bank.
As soon as I posted them on my Instagram account and Facebook people were wondering how I would style them.
Et voilà!
Boots – Thrifted (similar), Dress – Anthropologie (sim), Belt – Anthropologie (sim), Jean Jacket – H&M (sim) Clutch – Vintage (this one is just INSANE!)
After I’d bought them Greetje wrote me to tell me that she found these in the Dutch Harpers Bazar…apparently patchwork boots are “in”.
Funny how that works.
How do you feel about wearing a trend that you’ve already experienced earlier in life?
If you like these boots you might also like this outfit where I am wearing some Miu Miu boots that I scored via an estate sale.

I love the Seventies! That’s when I grew up. The boots are groovy, man. For me, I couldn’t wear women’s fashion back then despite admiring it from a distance. Given a chance to wear it now, I’d leap with joy!
Oh yes, those boots had to come home with you! You look fabulous. I think I had the same boots when I was 17, and I would wear them again in a heartbeat. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xo.
I had no doubt you would style them like a pro. Absolutely perfect match with that dress. Now, are you going to be purchasing or did you hang on to your overalls?
LOL…I’m thinking the overalls aren’t happening for me. But…I’ve learned never to say never ; P
That outfit is much better looking than anything I remember wearing in the 70s (although, I was only 11 when the 70s ended, so that could have been because of my age and my mom’s poor taste in kids clothing). I love it with the little jean jacket and the boots. Visiting from Visible Monday!
It’s amusing to me that the Seventies are having their moment again in terms of being considered stylish; they were the laughing stock of fashion decades for so long, had a brief resurgence in the Nineties, and now here we are again, loving the flares, platforms, maxis, floppy hats, A line skirts, and of course patchwork! I don’t mind everyone jumping on the bandwagon – I’ll still be wearing my vintage 70s clothes long after the fashionistas have moved on to something else. And so what if you’ve worn it all before? Who cares!
Love those boots, and the dress, and you know how I feel about denim jackets! Gorgeous hair too. xxx
I am a 70s child, so bell bottoms, fitted shirt and platform shoes have a spot in my heart! Great minds think alike, they say.. as a matter of fact I was shooting a 70s ensemble for the blog yesterday too but as usual mine always take the casual route while you, my dear never fail to add sophistication and effortless elegance to your look. The boots are stunning!
I could not pull these off but I love it on you and how you styled it!! You are just a woman of style and don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to do it.

I love those boots! Hard to believe you paid so little for them!
Those boots are awesome! I think my favorite part of the outfit is the belt, though.
WOW! These boots are amazing! And gorgeous you in them, of course! Very chic, and all for $12? C’mon!
xxx
The moment I saw those boots and the comment about how to style them, I thought of that fab leather dress of yours – perfect match!
$12 is a steal!

Great 70s style dear! Big kiss xxx

Awesome boots, styled beautifully!
I have seen patchwork boots at the thrift store too and just passed them by. After seeing how FAB you look…well, I’m going to be a big copy cat and get myself a pair!

Looks like a perfect match! And I think, you can wear nearly everything over 40, if you have the feeling and a great style and you have it!
All the best <3

I didn’t live that fashion era, but I do have a pair of patchwork boots, but I bought them in the end of the 90s 🙂 I love all patchwork things, in fact! I never heard that quote before, but I am aware of it now 🙂 I think you look stunning with this outfit that is close to my heart – whenever I can, I like wearing denim jackets! You really look great – I loved the boots!

Loved how you paired these boots! Great look.

I think I owned boots just like those!! You make them look great. I’m loving a lot of “trends” that I wore the first time. Life’s too short not to have fun.
Amazing buy! Yes, i have seen those Prada boots in so many ads, and I like yours so much more!
Love the 70s boots with the more classic look, you made this outfit modern and relevant.
Plus, I love your hair . The sheath on you is a great color, too. Love the belt.

and ps. I am doing lot of 70’s styling ..cant wait to find elephant pants in my size. 😉

Perfection, Miss Lady! Your styling is genius. The bejeweled belt, ladylike sheath, and classic clutch balance out the rugged 70s vibe of the boots and jacket perfectly. The palette of the clay brown and denim blue is unexpectedly fresh, too!
At 28, trends are only just coming around a second time for me. It’s weird to see styles that were popularized when I was in middle school coming back. Take, for example, Saved by the Bell and Clarissa Explains It All. Those styles seemed cool and funky fresh when I was in middle school. Seeing today’s primary color prints, leggings under ripped denim, and brushstroke prints takes me back to my middle school days. And who really wants to go back there? I can’t think of many (any) trends from my young adulthood that I’d like to see return. Butterfly clips? No. Lacy chokers? No. Tanks layered over tees? No. No, I’d like trends from decades waaaaay past to come ’round again, but you already knew that!

Well don’t you look hot? You look ready for Richard Gere circa American Gigolo to turn up in a sports car and whisk you off to Studio 54.
Love those boots and the leather dress, denim jacket and wild curls are the perfect accessory. Wonderful, just wonderful.
xxx
I’d love it if Richard Gere showed up!
You are on a boot roll, Suzanne. I love these! I bet you feel the attitude oozing out of them when you strut down the sidewalk. Work it! Work it!
Those boots are awesome and I like the camel dress, too.
You rocked it with those boots! I really love the hair too.

I was born in the 80s and it’s pretty weird that I suddenly want to wear the clothes I hated when I was a kid because it’s all coming back.
I think those boots are deeee-licious and you’ve styled them perfectly with the jeans and the orange dress. I’ve seen a few pairs of patchwork boots at vintage shows but unfortunately, they are always too small or too narrow for my feet. I don’t wear any obvious 70’s trends but I am fond of 80’s big shouldered jackets (which I did not actually wear in the 80’s).
You styled your new boots with a matching sofa! You are amazing! Seriously, your outfit looks great but then I am not at all surprised. I love the boots and there is no way anyone can tell me not to wear 70s inspired stuff. If I like it I will wear it and I love the lines of so many seventies styles. I don’t like the polyester though, and don’t suit the earth tones so am very selective. I can admire it all on you though! xoxo
I’m so glad you linked up with SHOE AND TELL on Style Nudge! I absolutely LOVE your patchwork boots!!!!
Believe it or not I bought some that are similar years ago and love them. I also love how you styled them with the your nutmeg dress, jeweled belt and the jean jacket is a great finishing piece. I am a huge vintage lover, so I really appreciate your clutch. LOVE, LOVE your look!

Ha! Great minds, same channel! Looking very groovy, young lady. Couldn’t have styled it better. I think they’ll be completely mind blowing with some of your winter knits as well.
I go on at length (and on, and on …) in today’s post about having been present in the period and doing it again in new iterations. Great styles were wonderful when young and evolve, just getting more interesting with time. Just like me!
Beautiful boots ! I really love this look – fantastic 🙂 x
Somehow you make these things work. Completely naturally. Did you just happen to have that dress in the closet?? You look very good in this outfit.
Greetje
Yes…I had the dress : )
I feel a little weird a lot of the nineties styles also seem to be coming back, but half of that is because it is a lot of the ugly stuff I didn’t like the first time around (the colors. Why is melt-my-eyes neon back?). It is also funny to see the flared jeans back in. They were big when I was in high school, but you wore them very differently. This time around is definitely more 70s than 2000s flared jean.
I love you in these boots no matter if it is “on trend” or not!
You rock those boots, girl!
