I prefer the term vertically challenged over short…but Google prefers the term short. Google isn’t very politically correct.
Jumpsuits are a petite gals friend. They elongate the body because there are no visual breaks cutting the body into pieces. You appear as one long lean line.
I’ve worn them since the early 80’s. In fact I wore a white version to my 16th birthday that I remember very well. It was strapless and had fabric ties at the ankles. It was voluminous, as that was the style in the 80’s and cost a fraction of the one below. I wore it with red mid-heel open toe sandals and a red clutch.
This is my updated version of how I could wear it now that I’m (cough, cough) 32 (almost 33) years older.
You’ll notice it isn’t strapless. I stopped wearing those in my late twenties.
This might be classier with just a simple necklace like this. Or even no necklace, like I wore when I was sixteen.
My 16th birthday is one of my favourite memories. As a huge surprise my Dad rented a vintage Bentley with an authentic chauffeur (wearing a proper hat & uniform ) and we all went to a high end restaurant. The Bentley was so large it easily fit six people. At the restaurant I was allowed to order a drink on my own and enjoyed my very first champagne cocktail.
How I wish I had photos of that day! I think my X might have taken some photos, and sadly I don’t have them. Unlike today, people rarely had cameras with them, no one had cell phones and there was no such thing as a selfie. Yes…it was way back in the dark ages! I don’t know how we managed… just living for the moment, enjoying each other’s company instead of taking endless photos and posting them all over social media to a bunch of people we don’t even know.
Do you have a favourite birthday memory?

You have such vivid memories! I can’t even remember what I wore yesterday…hahaha 😉
I’m definitely on the hunt for a jumpsuit at the thrift store!

That one really stands out for me. 90% of the time I’m like you, I can’t remember a thing.

I am not sure I can rock a white jumpsuit but this looks HOT!
As for my birthday memory, I think it was my 10th birthday and we lived in a low rise apartment on the 3rd floor We played bubbles before the birthday party and I remember I was so excited for my birthday cake because it had pretty ballerinas on it. Mix wet bubbles drippings on the stairs and the birthday girl so excited to bring her cake to down = slipping and tumbling. Luckily, the cake was covered so the cake was till edible. We didn’t blow candles or anything but my friends and I were allowed to dig into the cake and search for the ballerinas. We still somehow manage to eat the cake and find the ballerinas.

Hope to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
suzanne carillo says
Oh my! What a story! LOL
Did you take ballet as a kid?
Happiness at Mid Life says
I was never graceful and would’ve made a horrible ballerina and I have zero rhythm 🙂

Your 16th birthday sounds way more fun than mine – and I’ll just leave it at that :)! Love the jumpsuit look. I have the opposite problem and they are never quite long enough for me.
suzanne carillo says
Now you’ve got me interested! Spill the beans!

For my Sweet 16, my parents threw a big party at our house and invited all of my friends. After dinner and games, we put on a movie. My best friend’s boyfriend decided to start making out with another girl during the movie – which caused lots of tears, taking sides (boys vs. girls) and an early end to the party. Teenagers can be so dramatic!
suzanne carillo says
Oh yeah…drama is a teenagers life!

You know my thoughts on jumpsuits, but this one is totally fierce! This whole look screams “Suzanne”. My best birthday memory would have to be the one I just had in March. My love went above and beyond to put together a surprise party with all the people I love most.

That is so great that your hubby made it so memorable. I’m hoping for a memorable one next year as well when I hit the big five oh.

Ah, yes… the old days. I remember life before smartphones, the Internet, even computers. We had newspapers and vinyl records. And got up to change the TV dial. My favorite birthday is in the future, when I have the opportunity to wear a dress instead of pants.
suzanne carillo says
I hope that day happens sooner than you thought it would.

Ooh, I love this white jumpsuit and how you’ve styled it. So chic! Your 16th birthday sounds like it was so much fun! And I love the description of your outfit. I, too, which you had a photo. All of my birthdays have been pretty low key, but perhaps I’ll do something like that for my next one.
suzanne carillo says
It was SO MUCH FUN! We felt like movie stars : )

Gorgeous suit – I can see you in it today! Thank goodness for modern day cameras. So many moments would be forgotten and gone forever if not for the thousands photos we take. 🙂 xxx
PS The orange one did not work for me. 🙂
suzanne carillo says
Too bad on the orange one not working out. I had high hopes for it.

Nice set! And as for the rest of your post…I soooooooo agree with your bold comments at the end. I often wonder if what we’ve gained with this technology is worth what we’ve lost (I have serious doubts). Birthday? Hmm…well, the one that sticks out most was 2005. I was on a UN mission (my employer at the time) to Dar Salaam, Tanzania and celebrated it with my colleagues there. We were right on the Indian Ocean, it was hot as could be, then I came back to Geneva and winter cold.
suzanne carillo says
That sounds like quite the location for a birthday.
Curtise says
That white jumpsuit is very chic, you’d look wonderful in it.
No particular birthday memories, so I’ll tell you about my first jumpsuit instead! Late 70s or 1980; lilac jersey; strappy; little gems stuck in the front. Really not so flattering, now I think about it, I was self-conscious about not being able to wear a bra (bra straps showing wasn’t an option then!) yet it still felt like a bold choice, and I liked it. xxx
suzanne carillo says
I was also self conscious about not wearing a bra at that time. But I got over it quickly!
I would love to see a photo of you in this : )

I am not a birthday party girl. Too much fuss, too much organizing. I am too lazy for that. But I remember my 30th (I think) birthday. I invited all my friends in a café (pub) and forced a theme on them. They all had to come dressed according to the theme Advertising. Most of them did, we saw some hilarious outfits. Everybody complained about having to do that, so they all had a topic to talk about with eachother. Pretty good as my friends are not a tight group, just individuals who don’t know one another.
The white jumpsuit (gorgeous) might even suit me, but is has no sleeves. Oh the things you don’t want when you get older… the list is getting longer. Pretty expensive jumpsuit by the way.

suzanne carillo says
I can tell you my white jumpsuit wasn’t even a fraction of that price. I’m sure you can find one much cheaper than this one that is very similar.
That sounds like a fun party. I love themes. You are right, they break barriers.

I love your stories! Suzanne at 16! Your birthday sounds so special. My parents sometimes planned mystery trips like that for my birthdays or to make a normal day extraordinary. Listen to how chic and stylish you were at 16! I was a bit of a hot mess with my vintage prom dresses, red striped circus pants, and three inch platform shoes that weighed me down like bricks.
Jumpsuits intimidate the heck out of me, but leave it to a flower statement necklace to make me reconsider. I love this outfit, and who knows, maybe I’d even love it on me. I do need to try one on. I’m just afraid I’ll look like I’m in a clown suit with how wide my hips are. If I do, I’ll be sure to take a picture anyways since I could use a good laugh.
Have a great weekend!
<3 Liz
