When you have creativity block…go to sleep.

I've been sick lately with a nasty cold/flu thing that doesn't seem to want to leave. After several days of mostly bed rest I tried yesterday to get back to work on my new stamp designs. I literally worked all day on it and by the end of the day I wondered if I was any further ahead. When I'm so congested I find it hard to stay on track and focus. Instead I end up designing stuff that doesn't really work with what I've already created.
The last thing I was working on was some expressions and word art. I felt like I was beating my head against a brick wall. Nothing was working. When my pug, Zoe decided it was time to call it a day, I finally agreed and reluctantly shut off my computers.
I must have had this "writer's block" on my brain when I went to bed because at 4:30 am I woke up with lots of great ideas. I thought of them one after the next. It was rapid fire non-stop idea nirvana! I thought, "Crap! I'm never going to remember these in the morning" so I dragged my butt out of bed and started fumbling around in Robert's office trying to locate a pen and paper. I couldn't find anything. In today's age of computers there are no pens or papers to be found. Defeated and exhausted, I climbed back into bed desperately trying to recall and repeat to myself all the great ideas I'd had. I wondered if I'd remember anything in the morning since I'd already forgotten the first great idea I had which originally woke me up.
Lucky for me in this morning I remembered two of my ideas. I know I had a whole lot more than that, but at least I didn't forget everything.
Now I know that when I go to bed I need to keep a pad and pen near me for when I wake up in the middle of the night to "sleep induced creative inspiration".
Harvest
For the first time we actually have some cauliflower and broccoli. We even had a honeydew melon but I forgot to take a photo before we ate it. Our garden is in a small sandbox that we converted to a garden. Every year it gets a little bit better. This year it seemed a bit off, but I'm happy to see that we will finally get some carrots and maybe even some brussel sprouts.
It's going to get colder here the next few days so I'm debating whether or not to take the green tomatoes inside or not. I much prefer when they have ripened on the vine.
I will be making some sundried tomatoes and drying some of the many hot peppers in the oven. I just wish our growing season was longer.
