I wore this outfit thrifting a couple weeks ago right after I scored the amazing shoes that I wrote about here.
Pleated Skirt Velvet Blazer Fall Style
Pleated skirts are having a moment now. Well, another moment. I never thought they went out of style.
The aubergine colour of this thrifted skirt (thank you Talize!) is one of my favourite fall colours.

I look like I know what I’m doing here right? Showing off the pleats…acting all “professional model-like”.
Ha!
Really I’m just trying to squeeze in as many photos as possible before the diva shows up and decides she needs to smell every inch of the space where I’m trying to take photos.
Looking at these images now I see that it would be better if the skirt were about an inch shorter and not pointing directly at my cows (man-calves).
The next time I wear this I will try to pull the waist up higher.
Not this high…
Although that guy might be onto something.
If we all had our pants this high muffin tops would disappear and smaller Timbits would reign supreme. You may however experience some nipple and armpit chaffing. Nevermind! That’s what the belt is for…I think.
I’m sorry. You will never be able to erase that image from your brain.
My man-cows look positively minuscule now.
It’s all perspective folks.
Here are some more ideas for styling pleated skirts…

Are you a fan of pleated skirts?

I do like pleated skirts. Don’t know why I don’t own more of them. Will have to remedy that. Love that green velvet blazer with the aubergine. Great color combination. And the print on the maxi is fab. It’s not often you see pleated maxi skirts. This one is really pretty.
Theresa
I agree it isn’t often I find pleated maxi skirts but I’ve got a few I need to list in my store. They are so extravagant I find.
I love that moss green blazer with the aubergine skirt, perfect with those fabulous shoes. You’ve got a fab selection instore.
The only pleated garment I own is that purple floral kaftan with the humongous sleeves that Jon found for m in a charity shop other than that the last pleated skirt i wore was probably my gym kit back in grammar school.
I refashioned a few pleated skirts I found in chazzas into Grecian-style dresses which sold quite well at festivals. xxx
I think that festival crowd has a whole other buying strategy. I’m sure it changes for you at each show too.
I have always loved pleated skirts, whether they were a thing or not. I remember a black pleated skirt I thrifted when I was in my twenties. How I loved that skirt. Nobody else wore pleats at the time, but I didn’t care! Aubergine is such a gorgeous colour too, and it looks especially striking combined with that divine olive green velvet jacket. My “cows” are much worse than yours, in fact I hadn’t even noticed yours, but then you had to point them out. And no, I won’t get that image out of my mind now! xxx
Ha ha! Yes, it is worse when we take the time to point out our flaws to others. Sorry about the image ; P
Me too, always loving a pleated skirt. Yours here are extra-fabulous and I’ve seen nothing in the modern shops to compare. And your super-long hair! It looks luscious, but I feel you about the comfort. Hey, Zoe, helping Mom out in her garden of style! xox

I loved that hair. It made me feel like Rapuzel.
The best thing about pleats is how they create movement….especially when we are moving and walking. Which is usually how life goes!!
The color combination is fabulous Suzanne!!

I agree they look best when moving. I’m not able to capture that well photographing myself.
Yes, I love a pleated skirt. They do seem to come in and out of fashion but like you I wear them all the time regardless of fashion trends. I love the variety of ones you’ve posted and my favourite is your favourite, too.
The aubergine skirt with the green velvet blazer is such a magical colour combination and the outfit looks extremely chic.
And no, I can’t that image of that man in the extra high waisted jeans out of my mind. It’s the budgie smuggling bit that gets me most of all – worse than a male ballet dancer’s tights!
Ha ha! Budgie smuggling! I haven’t heard that before.
I’ve never been a big fan of pleated skirts, although I like the movement they create when you walk. I own a grey skirt with a pleated tulle overlay that I quite like, but that’s all the pleats I have. I do like the skirt in the orange yellow and beige pattern with the big pleats but it’s too small for me, and I have absolutely nothing to wear it with, so I’m safe.
I laughed at Veronica Cooke’s comment about the”budgie smuggling” going on in the photo of the man in the extremely high waisted pants!
Yeah that made me laugh too.
That maxi skirt is too small for me too. Whew! Ha ha!
So good, Suzanne. I like pleated skirts too, but like Theresa, I don’t own a whole lot of them. Skirts in general are not numerous in my wardrobe. But you make them look so great, it makes me want to change my ways a little. 🙂
Also…I will never get that image of the high-waisted man out of my mind. Oh the nipple chafing! I don’t think a belt will help with that particular issue but it’s worth a try. This from a woman who likes a good high-waisted jean, but that height takes it to a whole ‘nother level, literally. I’m scarred for life now. ha ha.

Ha ha! Sorry about that Sherry ; P
Ha! You always make me laugh.
I believe pleats are common and natural for skirts; they’ll never go out of fashion.
I’m happy I can put a smile on your face Ally ; P
Ha! Ha! Ha! Hee! Hee! Hee! OMG!!! TIMBITS!!! Ha! Ha! Ha! I can’t even see straight!!!! :-):-):-)
ok… I’ve pulled it together enough to say, I LOVE pleated skirts and your aubergine ( love that word) one is killer cute!!!
I purchased a cool black and tan tribal/ geometric print pleated skirt in a consignment shop last summer!! It’s very cool.
Yes…I had to reference the Timbits with a link for all you non Canadians so you’d know what I’m talking about ; P
That needed a warning. Wow!!! Very effective, although, to tell you the truth, I did not see a single thing wrong with your legs. Our gentleman friend? That’s a different 5000 word essay. I’m a little addicted to a pleated skirt. You have an amazing collection. Great colours abounding throughout, but loving your aubergine/green autumnal combo. I wish we had autumn right now. Super jealous. I’m always surprised how much of the fabulous stuff I get thrifting (op-shopping we call it) doesn’t ever appear to have been worn. Unless it’s magnificent, I often don’t buy tagged items though as they tend to get a little silly on pricing those at our stores. Thanks for sharing an amazing post once again.
Ha ha! Sorry…I’ll put be sure to issue a warning of the impending photo next time to protect your sensitive eyes.
It boggles my mind when I wonder who is so rich that they buy clothes they never wear and then take them to the thrift shop with the tags still on.
woww, so many inspiring fabulous outfits!, and you look so adorable in your skirts. I love them with jackets! . The velvet blazer looks so cool with the aubergine skirt! so lovely color combo!
Pleated skirts look really appealing to me now!
besos
Thanks : )
I was just browsing on the net for a pleated skirt, another one, and I thought: no, all these polyester cheap ones. No! And there you are, in a thrift one, with a perfect colour! Fabulous! And no, I will never be able to erase…..😱😱😱😱
The skirt I thrifted with the tags still on is actually from a fast fashion store that I normally won’t buy from, even secondhand. I made the exception knowing that I wouldn’t be selling this in my store.
Such rich colours, what Autumn is all about! I love the green velvet. I own a black jacket and a burgundy, but not green, hmm… I don’t own a pleated skirt though! I haven’t found the right one yet.
I’m such a sucker for bold velvet coloured blazers.
suzanne – you look fabulous!
this colors were made for you! and as an owner of “mountaineer calves” can find nothing wrong with yours – who really wants that toothpicks shown in the ads above….
;-D
looove pleated skirts! esp. because “normal people” do not like them :-DDDD
xxxx
I have a new name for my calves ; P Thanks!
Pleated skirts, I have several but only one accordion-pleated skirt in a chiffon-like fabric. It is perhaps the only accordion-pleated skirt that I shall ever own. I love it, but for some reason I have a vampire/sunlight reaction to those particular pleats, an inexplicable aversion, perhaps from some childhood trauma. I love how you have styled your combo, but don’t ask me to touch it. Hahaha!! Aubergine and forest green are favourites together. Your collection is awesome!!! And those shoes, oh YES.
The pleats do look a bit like a mouth.
Love the look.

Thanks for popping by Zorica : )
You are good, you are very good. I like them all, but my favourite is the one where you are sitting on that little bench with Zoë looking at you. Not because of Zoë, how ever adorable she is, but because that is so my taste.
That man with the pulled up trousers… oh dear you are right, I cannot get that image erased from my brain.
Greetje
Ha! Are you sure it wasn’t the addition of my furry accessory?
The boots in that photo are some of my favourites. You would love them. A little heel and very comfortable to walk in. They are by Free People and would be considered relatively cheap by your standards.
Ah, but my standards are ridiculous. Even I will admit that.
G
I totally agreed that pleated skirts are always a beautiful style. I adore this particular skirt on you as the eggplant color is stunning with that green velvet blazer. What a beautiful printed blouse as well. Quit being so hard on yourself- no one sees your calves the way you do.
