I have no qualms about mixing up eras when I get dressed. I’m not a vintage snob. Mixing different decades of vintage with contemporary pieces adds an element of surprise.
Style Vintage Contemporary With Modern Boots
Remember when I told you I had a momentary retail breakdown just before Christmas? Yeah. It was these snakeskin boots. #noregrets
The dress is a classic 1970s day dress with accordion pleats and quite lovely on its own but when the boots are added? NOW we’re talkin’!
This is another adorable black paisley 60s/70s dress with tie neck and ruffle sleeves. What do you think of the juxtaposition of the classic feminine dress with the bold rock & roll boots? Dress Medium

Totally random to squeeze that quote in here but I felt the urge to share it with you. In today’s age of fake news it is even more important to keep this in mind.

The artsy graphic design of star bursts on this asymmetrical 70s dress work perfectly with the wild snakeskin, don’t you think? Or is that just me feeling extra smug? Dress S/M
How about some colour blocking? My version of the 80’s revamped. Sweater S/M
If I didn’t tell you that these pieces were vintage would you have known they were?
I doubt it. So many fast fashion companies have lifted directly from the vintage vaults to create their “latest looks”. Environmentally exploitive companies like H&M, Zara and Forever 21 are all creating their versions of “new vintage”. Why bother with their cheap, fast fashion, environmentally unfriendly version when you can get the real thing?
How do you feel about mixing different eras of clothing?

I LOVE your boots. No matter what you wear, they deservedly grab all the attention.
Your second look reminds me of a style that was very trendy around the turn of the century (at least over here)–very lightweight floral skirts, often with a black or red background, on the long side, usually with very small pleats, worn with a sweater and knee-high boots. I remember going to a party where every woman was wearing a variant of that look.
The only hiccup is with the third look, where I prefer to either have the skirt go completely past the top of the boot, as with the other three outfits, or to show a knee. I wish the hem didn’t go up on the side. That said, if it were my dress and my boots, I would wear them together regardless because overall they look great together.
My closet spans decades, but due to grandfathering, not vintage shopping. As I write this, I am wearing some velvet yoga pants from 2004 with a turtleneck sweater from the mid-1990s. Most of my pre-1990 clothes didn’t survive my stint in Africa, but that still leaves me with almost 30 years of fashion. Stuff from back then didn’t wear out the way flimsy fast fashion does.

Wow! I can totally understand you having a retail breakdown over those boots! They are AMAZING, whatever you’re wearing them with. I think that that the floaty, graphic print dress is my favourites combination. I love mixing different eras, as well as vintage with modern! But oh, those boots! Can’t take my eyes off them … xxx

Well, those are amazing boots! My favourite outfit is the colour blocking one. I also love that cute pink bag!
I don’t have much in the way of vintage clothing but I do mix my pieces with other eras so I guess that makes me NOT a vintage snob!
Have a great week!

It’s fun to capture an era and it’s fun to mix ’em up. Your choices are always so colorful and amusing. And your photo backdrops are to die for. Your natural artistic ability works well here.

Those boots are really pretty and were probably uber expensive as well. Adding something that special to your closet, especially when they’ve already become “beloved” ( it’s in your eyes) seems a worthy splurge.
My favorite look is the monochromatic blues. WOW!!!

do this all the time…….
your boots are to die for!!! so very very cool!
and of cause they add pizazz to all the lovely vintage dresses here.
i´m not only mix one eara with modern, i do mix 50s skirts with 70s tunics and a 60s coat for example….with 30s shoes or modern ones 😀

I love to wear contrasts, so wearing different decades is a bit the same. I love the colour blocking outfit! What a fabulous boots.

Yep…I can see why you had to have them. Besides we should all splurge here and there. It makes us feel a little more worth it, and we are (that’s my rationale at least).
As for mixing styles…that makes any outfit interesting. Most of the time I can’t tell if an item is vintage. Because it seems like you can find almost anything nowadays. But I do have a knitting pattern book that has many sweaters like your blue one….it’s from the 60’s.
XOXO

The purple-ish skirt, blue top, and pink bag with those boots – gaaaa. That’s some good mixin’ there, Suzanne. They all are, but that one? Yesss. I mix stuff all the time and if you hadn’t told me, and I didn’t know you, I would not know these are vintage pieces. Everything old is new again but vintage does it best. I do understand your weakness for those boots. They will also look awesome with your leather coats.

those boots are so fabulous that you had to have them! (I’ve got a weakness for shoes and/or boots).
Love this pair of stunning boots enhancing everything you wear! because you rock in them!
And your ‘color block’ outfit is putting a smile on my face, so lovely!, the fab colors, the fab accessories, the interesting textures, the purple leather! . Love it!

Wow, talk about statement pieces! Those boots are it! Here’s how I justify splurges. Just think about all the money saved from thrifting. That then gives me the leeway to invest in something amazing that is over my usual budget. Love them with the starburst print dress.

I am pretty positive that those boots could make a burlap sack look kick ass! They are utterly gorgeous and I can see why you had to have them. They work beautifully with every single thing you styled them with!

I adore those boots. They scream maverick. They scream: “hey I do what I please, I am not afraid and I know I look damned gorgeous”. I came across them at Style Nudge as well and was thinking about them myself. Only I don’t order anything from Canada or the USA anymore.
Indeed these boots and those dresses go very well together. Knowing me, you understand that I would mix less patterns, being more conservative. As you pointed out: “it is not the truth, just an opinion.”
Also that pink bag is hot. I have seen several like these on Essentiel Antwerp.

I’ve mixed eras in my outfits since I first discovered thrifting when I moved to the city for university. Keeps things interesting! I can understand that you had to have those boots – they are spectacular.

Absolutely not a retail breakdown. This is a genius move. These boots are so fabulous and my favorite outfit is the last one. It reminds me a bit of the colors in my recent post. On Instagram you will see me with a brighter version and you will laugh. Great minds. ..
Oh these boots!!
