There are plenty of things to love about fall, the crisp morning walks, the warm golden hues of changing leaves, the smell of pumpkin muffins that I made this weekend…yum!
Did you know you can cut out half the fat in a cake/muffin recipe and replace it with applesauce? It works! Now let’s see if my waist wakes up and realises that I’ve cut out half the fat.
I also love the annual reemergence of classic plaid for fall.
Plaid is a pattern I love, especially a bold statement plaid for fall like this midi skirt I picked up via thrift.
I’m not really sure why I’ve become obsessed about midi length skirts. I have a feeling it has to do with body confidence, either that or I’ve been watching too many Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.
As a petite woman normally I would tell you the worst thing you can do to yourself is to wear a skirt below the knee with a large pattern like this plaid.
I love the fact that I’m breaking all my preconceived ideas and rules as I get older. I consider it a bit of a personal challenge to see just how many I can break.
Wearing wild animal print with plaid over 40 50? Oh yeah…I’m breaking something alright.
Have you ever noticed how a tight pattern can confuse the eye? The top is stretchy/tight fitted but it doesn’t matter because your eye just reads it as one massive area of pattern.
With the larger pattern the eye isn’t as confused and can better define the convex and concave areas (Spanx might come in handy).
Maybe that is why I’m so drawn to patterns, I like to keep everyone confused and guessing.
Yes, I’m matchy matchy. I blame that on Miss Fisher too.
I’ve been buying up vintage plaid skirts lately. Really high quality pleated wool skirts like this sweet one I just listed in my Etsy shop.
