There are plenty of things to love about fall, the crisp morning walks, the warm golden hues of changing leaves, the smell of pumpkin muffins that I made this weekend…yum!
Did you know you can cut out half the fat in a cake/muffin recipe and replace it with applesauce? It works! Now let’s see if my waist wakes up and realises that I’ve cut out half the fat.
I also love the annual reemergence of classic plaid for fall.
Plaid is a pattern I love, especially a bold statement plaid for fall like this midi skirt I picked up via thrift.
I’m not really sure why I’ve become obsessed about midi length skirts. I have a feeling it has to do with body confidence, either that or I’ve been watching too many Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.
As a petite woman normally I would tell you the worst thing you can do to yourself is to wear a skirt below the knee with a large pattern like this plaid.
I love the fact that I’m breaking all my preconceived ideas and rules as I get older. I consider it a bit of a personal challenge to see just how many I can break.
Wearing wild animal print with plaid over 40 50? Oh yeah…I’m breaking something alright.
Have you ever noticed how a tight pattern can confuse the eye? The top is stretchy/tight fitted but it doesn’t matter because your eye just reads it as one massive area of pattern.
With the larger pattern the eye isn’t as confused and can better define the convex and concave areas (Spanx might come in handy).
Maybe that is why I’m so drawn to patterns, I like to keep everyone confused and guessing.
Yes, I’m matchy matchy. I blame that on Miss Fisher too.
I’ve been buying up vintage plaid skirts lately. Really high quality pleated wool skirts like this sweet one I just listed in my Etsy shop.

Yes, yes to all these fabulous plaids. And I love a midi length skirt on you – you look so chic and Fall-ish (jealous of Fall!). xo

The length really works on you and the pattern combo is great!
I love plaids and don’t get to wear nearly enough because I live where it’s too dang hot most of the year. Seems so many fall/winter clothes are made in plaid and not enough warmer weather clothes. Anywho, I think the mid length skirts look perfectly fine on you and that black/gray leopard pattern with the blue plaid skirt looks great!
Yes to All Things Plaid for fall! Oh my gosh, that Miss Fisher plaid outfit of yours with the swoon-worthy jacket!!!! Why is it that I always come away from seeing you coveting at least one item on your person? Should I be concerned? Should YOU be concerned? 🙂 Nah–I’m just a 100-pound weakling. You’re not much bigger than me, but I think you could take me if I really tried to nab that jacket. And your bling boots. And your owl purse. (Oops. I should stop talking now.)

You look so beautiful in these photos Suzanne. There is something about the cut hats and the boots and the plaid jackets and skirts that really suit you and your personality. I didn’t realize that you were more petite in height! You appear to be average height! I’m thinking that a bias plaid or those with a strong vertical color way must create a taller silouette!
I’ve been thinking about you and hope that so many friends who care about you and gave great stress relief suggestions and support have helped you to cope with your current challenges.
I really enjoyed this plaid post and the variety of wonderful ideas from you. Plaid also has a bit of a Northwoods vibe that I can identify with having grown up in Northern Minnesota!
Gorgeous plaids, and great mixes, love the mix of plaid and Leo , and that teal jacket looks so runway! These look fabulous on you, you look sleek and on trend, and I adore this collection! Keep breaking those silly rules!

I just brought out my plaid shirts this weekend. It feels like fall now! You’re looking gorgeous, as usual!
I sell lots of tartan but I don’t wear it myself, the pattern is a bit to regimented for my tastes, I’m more drawn to swirls, paisleys and huge florals.
You look wonderful in your and you”re right, the eye only notices the print not the body underneath, unlike when you wear something plain and every lump, bump and badly fitting pair of knickers is visible to all.
Love that military jacket on you! xxx
Amazing contrasts happening, I love these looks!

Confession… I could say I came here to read about Fall fashion and learn new tips but, in truth, I visited to see what my friend Suzanne is up to. Because I like her. The fashion-education is merely icing on the Suzanne-cake.
We all need friends like Ally the Shybiker.
What a lovely comment!
I have a couple of plaid pieces in my wardrobe, but your plaid collection is very impressive. I love your mix of plaid with the animal print. The fitted top and skirt give you a very nice long line.
Suzanne—the first outfit is fabulous. I’m not even sure I’d consider it match because of the print mixing.
Now if my mom was matching—she’d have navy tights, navy boots, navy shirt & accessories!!
I’m actually thinking I need some more plaid in my life…I always thought of it as granola wear, but I can see how versatile it really is!!

Plaid and I are no friends. Don’t know why. As I like plaid. You demonstrated it so well. The pattern of your “new” midi skirt is so similar to the long lighter blue one. I love how you have combined it with leopard. Never would have thought of that and it works perfectly. I just am not a pattern mixing woman. Sad really.
I think the midi skirts suit you because it is the “rule” (I can see you cringe) of 1/3 and 2/3. Plus it is figure flattering as it emphasizes your beautiful hourglass figure.

I love all of this plaid on you, Suzanne (the military “Sergeant Pepper” style jacket looks fabulous with that skirt. I think my pick (because I love red, probably) is the gorgeous red jacket, with the leather skirt and wonderful handbag. So many different styles – all FABULOUS! And lovely to see and read about as I break out the summer gear. xx
