My Mom took a very bad fall this past week and broke 3 of her ribs. She was just released from a week in hospital. I live on the other side of the country so when something like this happens I feel quite helpless.
This is my Mom, my brother and yep…that smiling baby is me. I know…I haven't changed a bit.
This just happens to be my Mom's vintage dress.
I just got it back from the tailor last week and was so excited to see what it would look like on me that I made an outfit right away even though I know I won't be able to wear it until summer.
I don't know if my Mom wore it for her graduation or her confirmation. I have 2 dresses of hers and she isn't sure which one was worn when.
Wearing a piece that my Mom wore is extra special to me. Kind of like I'm giving her a long distance hug.
I'm thinking about you Mom. Sending heartfelt thoughts for you to get better. Love you! XOX

What a wonderful post! I hope your mom will recover very very soon!
I love your dress! So special, too! I’m sure you’ll get a lot of wear come spring.
I have a few things of my mom….just can’t tell you how much they means to me since she’s no longer with us.

You look amazing in your mom’s dress! I actually have some clothes from my grandmother, which is really special for me. =) I hope your mom continues to mend well.
Oh no, your poor mom! Send her a hug from me!! So sweet you wore a vintage dress of her’s. It is stunning on you and I think you styled it perfectly! I am sure you are just waiting for summer to come now!!! Love you family photo, just adorable!
This is so beautiful! I love the color and the addition of the sweater is fab. I would love to do something like you did with the socks and shoes. So vintage. Awesome!
This is such a sweet post. How wonderful that you had you mom’s vintage dress tailored to wear yourself. That is a beautiful dress and I love the dainty socks and those color of shoes. This is a perfect outfit. Hope your mother recovers very quickly.
Suzanne, first of all I hope you mom feels better soon. I know how that feels, I am pretty far away from my parents too and its a horrible feeling when you know you are helpless 🙁
this dress reminds me actually of a dres my mom had like 25 years ago, super vintage and I love how you made it look so girly with the polka dotted socks and yellow accessoires. Cant wait to see you wear it in the summer. LOVE IT!
That is such a beautiful dress!!! And thoughts and prayers for a very quick recovery!

Oh man, that’s got to be hard to get news like that and not to be able to go and be with her! It’s definitely a blessing that you have some of her dresses, though. I don’t think my Mom kept any of her clothes from when she was young

First of all … you will have so much fun in this wonderful dress, and you’ve styled it perfectly. Are you not the happiest girl in the world that you bought those little gold pumps?! How beautiful on you!
Second … let this be an object lesson for all women who are ruthless closet cleaners. If you have daughters, hang on to the best loved pieces! (If you only have sons, daughters-in-law may respond differently … but keep the good stuff anyway. The d-i-ls may love them as much as your own progeny. But even burnt in effigy, your clothes will still have a dramatic repurposing.)
Hope you mum gets better fast … poor baby.

Suzanne, in a word, Pretty. Your dress is lovely on you, and it is a special way of connecting with your Mom. I do hope she feels better soon! You know, your dress really does make me wish for summer, or at the very least spring. Brilliant!
I’m sorry to hear about your Mom! Hope she’s recovering fast and doing well! That dress of hers sure is pretty on you! I really love this whole look! The shoes and socks are perfect. Where did you find these socks? I absolutely love them!
Hi Jessi…I scored those socks at Marshals a while back. They were very hard to find.
So true. I think back to all the amazing clothes my Mom used to have and really wish she had held onto more of them. I am feeling very lucky to have the 2 that she saved.
Thanks for your well wishes.
I think it is so nice to have some clothes that carry meaning behind them.
Thanks Val : )
Thanks Rebecca : )
That is so funny that you Mom had a dress like that too. This dress was made by my Grandma.
Thanks Sue : )
Thanks Marla…she is starting to feel a bit better and is out of the hospital now.
Thanks Kathleen. She is back home now.
It is so wonderful to have pieces of clothing that remind us of loved ones.
Thanks for popping by Mary : )
Thanks so much Heather.
Thanks Pam…she is back home resting now.
Thanks…she is starting to feel a bit better.
Thanks Patti. Some days it is definately harder than others to be so far away from family. She is home from the hospital now which is a good thing.
Pieces with sentimental meaning are wonderful ways of cherishing those we love and have loved.
