The Toronto Vintage Clothing Show fall sale has come and gone and I only needed a week to recover. Seriously, I don’t know how Vix and Jon do it all the time. It’s exhausting.
Vintage Clothing Show Highlights
The show was a success but I’m happy I’m on the other side of it.
This was my dining room the week before the show…
I had five racks stuffed with vintage treasures. Carting around all those heavy winter coats killed me.
I didn’t get any photos of the booth per se but I did get some photos of my dapper helper…
Thank you husband!
Star Sighting
On Saturday I spotted one of my favourite comedians from The Baroness Von Sketch Show, Meredith MacNeill.
I’ve seen other big stars when I was in NYC before, Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts at Agent Provocateur and lots of stars at TIFF but I’ve never had the guts to go up and ask for a photo before until now. I couldn’t miss the opportunity, this woman is a comedic genius!
Meredith was there with the show designer who was kind enough to take this photo for me.
Do I look like I’m about to burst?
I was a bit of a blubbering mess when I spoke to her. I have so much respect for gifted female comedians.
If you want a good belly laugh you need to watch the Baroness Von Sketch Show. I’m sharing two of my favourite sketches from the show below.
Who hasn’t tried cutting their own bangs before only to have it go terribly wrong?
“My Bangs Do Not Define Me”
And “Dry Shampoo” bitches! Dry shampoo! When you rely on your hair for everything.
I was on a total high after meeting her.
I now wish I’d introduced myself as, “Hi I’m bangs!” Ah well. I’ll be more composed next time.
Blog Reader Shout-out!
I have to say a big hello to Eleanor a blog reader that was kind enough to stop by and say hi at the show. It’s always a thrill and a surprise to meet someone that follows my blog. When I blog I often feel like I’m screaming into the endless dark void of the internet. Having the opportunity to meet a reader face to face reminds me there are real people out there. I regret not grabbing a photo of Eleanor. Just know you made my day!
What I Wore On Day Two
What Did I Buy?
At the end of the show I often reward myself with a vintage treasure from one of the other vendors I know. This year it was a Georges Besson maxi dress from Paris.
I wore this outfit thrifting the other day and had a woman ask me if I was European. LOL. Apparently she feels only European women have an eye for mixing colours. I was doing Canada proud.
All of the pieces were shopped from my closet except the new-to-me maxi dress.
Fall is in the air and proof is a smiling pug sitting next to some pumpkins.
I thought I’d leave you with a photo taken near the park where I walk the pug daily. It’s a sugar maple dressed up in its finest autumn cloak. It reminds me of my favourite poem by Robert Frost.
Autumn in Ontario truly is beautiful.
Linking up with Visible Monday, Turning Heads Tuesday
, Fancy Friday, and Spy Girl
That is a beautiful and evocative poem, Suzanne – thanks for publishing it. And the Fall pictures are bringing back so many happy memories of October up north. Zoe – what a movie star!
Congrats on your successful show and that stunning maxi dress! You are doing Canada proud every time you step out! xox

Thanks Patti : )
Canada is part of Europe, isn’t it? 🙂
I’m sure the show was exhausting. Glad you got to meet a celebrity. I respect female comedians too.
Ha ha! Most Americans think Canada is part of the US ; P
fabulous “new” maxi dress – the perfect shades for you!
congrats to the successful trading and meeting one of your favorite comedians…. i´m always struck with spontan dumpness if i met a celeb ;-D
love the outfit of the 2.day most! and thanks the gods for husbands!!!
xxxx
It’s funny because when I first saw the dress I wasn’t sure about the colours but I loved it as soon as I put it on.
I think we are all quite star struck and dumbfounded when we meet celebrities.
I’ve often wondered how Vix and Jon are doing this all the time, as even our one day flea market leaves me exhausted. Your stall does look very inviting and isn’t it wonderful to have a husband who helps out? Although in Jos’s cases, he’s often just chatting to people while I’m doing all the work 😉 I’m loving your new-to-you maxi dress and your Autumnal photos. I’ll be checking out those two sketches you shared when I’m at home. As it is, I am skiving off work to do some blog post reading 🙂 xxx
I’m glad I’m not the only one that finds retail shows exhausting.
Yeah, I like to say my husband’s job is being the eye candy to lure in customers.
Ah ha! You read blogs at work! Now the truth is out.
We run on adrenaline! We’re fine until we stop. It is exhausting to do something you love, you give it your all and you’re mentally and physically knackered for days afterwards.
I’m so glad it went well, you both look wonderful and how lovely that Eleanor took the trouble to come and introduce herself, it always makes my day when somebody cares enough to do that.
Well done for being brave and chatting to Meredith MacNeill, I’d not heard of her before and she is hilarious – I think we’ve got a similar sense of humour. I’m still cringeing when i think about what utter nonsense I spouted to Jarvis Cocker at The End of the Road.
Love the dress you treated yourself to, the colour and fit are perfect! I wish most Europeans did dress like you as opposed to the greige most of them seem to embrace!
Your Autumnal photo of Zoe is adorable and I love the poem.
I really ought to be sorting stock for this weekend’s vintage fair but it’s been so long since i did one I don’t know where to start! xxx
You guys have lots of adrenaline!
I get what you mean about putting your all into something you’re passionate about. It was the same for me at this show and when I manufactured scrapbooking supplies. It requires lots of energy to be “up” and “on” for days on end.
Gosh, I bet you had the best time Suzanne (besides being exhausted)!! I can totally relate to wishing I’d said something later….that’s totally my M.O.
And that maxi is gorgeous. I hope the show was successful for you?? I know that’s a lot of hard work.
Your assistant is definitely dapper!! He and my hubby would get along fabulously!! (unlike your pup and my kitties…ha ha0
XOOX

The show was a success although I’d still like to have the same level of success as Vix when she essentially sold 85% of her stock. As an entrepreneur we’re always looking to better our numbers.
Zoe loves cats ; P Not sure that they love her back though.
Ha, we finally get to see that gorgeous husband of yours again! Sorry, can’t help myself. Hope you don’t hate me now, ha ha. You bought such a gorgeous dress! Fantastic colors!
Ha! My husband will love this comment ; P
The trees are so beautiful in Autumn – a constant delight to the eye.
I can imagine how exhausting the Vintage show was; you didn’t say how well you had done and I hope you sold loads! Your rails looked most interesting and I’d loved to have had a rummage through them. Your assistant was indeed very dapper!
I don’t think I could ever pluck up the courage to talk to someone who was both famous and someone that I admired, so well done you!
Loved all your outfits and the new maxi dress is lovely.
xxxx
It was a success but of course I always want to sell more. Unlike Vix I don’t have a shed for my inventory, it’s all in my house and needs to be carted up and down stairs. Overall though I was happy with the show.
I’m so glad you survived the fair. Vix’s posts show how bad they can be!
Your hubby scrubs up well doesn’t he?
Of course you are a walking advertisement as usual.
Autumn is such a great season for your hair colour!
Zoe looks happy being displayed with the pumpkins. She might make a good prop for your stall next year!

I could not even begin to imagine some of the difficulties that Vix has pushed through at her shows. They are nightmares! That woman is so strong nothing deters her. I really respect her fortitude.
I had another vendor at the show tell me she wished all of the buyers were in fact dogs and cats! LOL So Zoe would have fit right in.
Brilliant self-reward! What a gorgeous maxi dress. Hahaha, yes, from Europe. I put on a beret and I’m suddenly from France. Go figure.
Your booth looks amazing and it would help attract customers by having Robert there as well. Congratulations on a great show.
I’m glad you met Eleanor, a fan. I’m sure there were others who were too star-struck to introduce themselves, but how great that you met Meredith. She is a goddess!!! She needs you to write for their show!! AND be on it.
Ah yes. When my husband first came to Canada people wondered why he wasn’t wearing a beret and carrying a baguette all the time. LOL
I’ll bet you had that competing vendor’s maxi dress all styled and ready to rock with that gorgeously, complimentary coat. An exceptionally lovely combo.
I’ve always loved finding the perfect tonal looks and the latest classically inspired trends are probably a vintage lovers dream.
I’m hoping you made a small fortune Suzanne! 🙂 Cute assistant! 😉
Funny enough Jude I didn’t think about the coat when I bought the dress. Funny how it worked out.
I am glad the weekend went so well. And congratulations on your new to you maxi dress. Indeed you do Canada proud. You looked beautiful both days and so did your husband. He looks really smart. He also reminded me I have to get a waistcoat from somewhere. I have such an awesome pocket watch and can never wear it.
Greetje
A pocket watch! Where did you get that from Greetje? Robert’s watch was his Dad’s.
I remember that Robert Frost poem from school – I always liked it too! The dress you purchased at the show is the perfect Suzanne dress. Love the colours, and it looks great with the pink jacket.
How cool to see Meredith – I’ve watched a season of the Baroness Von Sketch show, and they are all such talented comediennes. Hope you have a bit more empty space in your dining room after the show.
Hope you had fun dear! Looks like an amazing show.

Glad that you got a total success at the fair, your stall looks really inviting and your dapper helper looks fab too ;D.
Love your outfits and love your new dress, those colors are Gloriously Autumnal!, and you look particularly gorgeous in it!. And I also wish that more europeans dress like you!.
besos
As Ann said, I’ll watch these videos as home…
