Gingham is one of the trends for spring 2015. I hardly consider gingham to be a trend. It is a classic pattern that is always in style in some form. This is a trend anyone can wear. Defined only as “lightweight plain-woven cotton cloth, typically checked in white and a bold colour” gingham can be found in many different colours and pattern sizes.
Gingham Tip: Generally a larger sized pattern will make you look larger and can be overwhelming on a small frame. Smaller patterns are easier on the eyes, combine well with more and are easier to wear on all body types. If the check is small enough it reads as a solid to the eyes.
Here are some of the ways I’ve worn gingham in the past…
One of my favourite vintage pieces, a 1950’s gingham dress.
The gingham pattern on this top is so small it reads as a solid to the eyes.
I think it adds a fresh funky touch here.
And now some fresh new ideas on how to wear gingham…
Outfit #1 Gingham top, Skirt, Sweater, Shoes
Outfit #2 Sweater, Skirt another skirt WAY cheaper, Shoes
Outfit #3 Coat, Top, Pants, Shoes
Outfit #4 Top, Jeans, Boots, Jacket, Scarf
I put together these ensembles with pieces from my own wardrobe showcasing new ideas on how to wear gingham.

Of course gingham looks great with solids, but I like to push the envelope.
Gingham is a trend? I feel like you about that – hasn’t it always been?! But, this is good news, as it’s one of my favourite SS prints and if it’s now ‘trending’ it’s going to be all over the shops – hooray! It was quite readily available in the UK last year and I picked up some fab gingham trousers that I’ve not worn nearly enough yet, so looking forward to cracking those out again. I like the idea of pairing them with something with a large pattern on – good call! CC x

I love this. I don’t own any gingham at the moment but I had a gingham shirt in college that I loved and wore into the ground. I think I need to find another! That first dress fits you perfectly and looks amazing on you. And I love the final four outfits you styled. Gingham pairs so well with florals. Who knew? (You did!)
I like gingham but have no experience with it. Your tip about size makes good sense. This is an informative and entertaining post.
I also would like to find a great gingham piece – you styled it all so adorable here!! If you still haven’t – why don’t you share this lovely post at the Shoe & Tell link up I am co-hosting this week with Cherie James!
Best!

Love, love the way you mixed a medium gingham with those fab floral skirts. I’m happy all over now. xo
I love all the different ways you showed how to wear gingham. I actually have the same shirt as you from Old Navy!

Gingham is a great print, and looks fab with florals. It does make me laugh that the Fashion Folk have decided it’s a trend – those who love it will always wear it, regardless!
Funnily enough, though I like it, I don’t own anything gingham – I wonder if it reminds me too strongly of childhood school dresses?
That black and white checked dress is always a real favourite of mine. xxx
Since I grew up as a Montana mountain girl, gingham wearing just comes naturally to me. I’ve had you and your gingham dress on my Pinterest since you first posted it. I hope you don’t mind. It’s my favorite Suzanne look ever!
I can totally relate to the BF jeans pairing (even if I don’t own a single anything gingham in my closet.. nope) but definitely good with solid colors. Amazing how 1 piece could make each pairing totally different than the other. Gingham.. now that’s one item I have to seriously consider adding to my little wardrobe!
I like how you’ve styled it; you’ve given it a fresh feeling. As for wearing it…if I found something in it that I liked, I might. I haven’t any of it in my wardrobe at present (that I can think of anyway).
I love how you paired gingham with patterns – wonderful! I don’t think I own anything gingham and will keep my eyes open. I agree with you, it’s hardly a trend though. 🙂 xxx
I do love gingham too. I love all of the outfits you’ve worn and totally drooling over that floral polka dot pencil skirt.

Hope to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
You bet I’ll be wearing gingham and of course I’ll also be pushing the envelope a bit. I adore all your outfits you put together especially the black and white gingham with your floral skirt. Although, I would head out any given day with that same shirt and sporting that tie! Awesome and funky look.
Love all these looks. You do gingham well. I know the bigger checks are on trend this season, not sure if I can pull of the big checks, but I do love them.
I don’t own any gingham, but I really enjoyed your styling tips here. It’s a natural partner for a pretty floral! I might have to think about adding a gingham shirt to my wardrobe sometime …
Loving gingham so much right now! What a great assortment of looks! In love with that gingham midi skirt in look #2!
Hope you’re having a great week, Suzanne!

I still have trouble styling the one gingham shirt I own. It is multicoloured which makes it harder (in my eyes) to style, especially with other patterns. Not good at that. I think you did a marvellous job. I especially like the black and white variations with the patterned skirts. I remember the Anthropologie skirt. Cannot remember seeing that TJ Maxx skirt.

very cute Suzanne, i will keep your ideas in mind
I love how you mixed it with a floral skirt

Seeing gingham with floral makes me quite giddy Suzanne! I’m gonna be all over this trend, you can count on it!!! So many great looks here, but the black and white gingham with the floral skirt and lavender shoes is practically screaming my name!
You look great in gingham! Would you believe I have nothing gingham in my closet? I am so not on trend. I love outfit #2. It is great with that pop of orange!

Wow! This is a lot of great work!
I love your gingham checked wovens, styled flawlessly, in your prior posts, ( outfits 2 and 3 are my favs)
and your current wardrobe that I hope to see you in soon. I love checks with bolder patterns, so I love your checked shirts and skirts!
I also loved the styled boards you made. you really have a great eye!

I am so happy that gingham is trending again. Here are some pants that I am loving right now: http://www.shopstyle.com/action/loadRetailerProductPage?id=468191543&pid=uid4096-26712436-94
I just love the gingham shirt with the black, white and pink floral skirt – it looks amazing! I am not very good at pattern mixing so I’m taking notes. I have always loved gingham, so it’s a staple in my wardrobe each year and I don’t pay much attention either to whether it’s ‘in’ or not because generally it rolls around every year.

You look fabulous as always. I particularly love the denim/necktie look and all of the gingham/floral combos. It is funny how the fashion gods decree something as a “trend”, but in truth it’s timeless and has never really gone out of style.

I didn’t know Gingham was a trend this year… I thought it was always in, actually! But I love all the outfits here with it!
