Lately I've been getting a few more people commenting that are linking directly through to stores that are obviously there simply to market their wares. They may make a comment like, "I love that", or "perfect colour for you", but they are obviously marketing. I have been designating these comments as spam. As far as I'm concerned they are there for all the wrong reasons. What is your strategy when dealing with these kind of comments on your blog?

hmmm…haven’t really had this issue in my blog comments (touch wood…), but I get lots of direct msgs on twitter that are definitely spam. I am wondering if the blog spammers are actually people, or if it is a robot/computer program? Maybe adding additional security features like the “prove you’re not a robot” word jumbles? Although this wouldn’t help if actual people are spamming your blog… Hope you find a resolution!

I wish I could help with this but I have very low technical skills when it comes to all this blogging stuff.

I get the same problem! I mark them as spam too. But some get through the spam filter even though they are repeat offenders. The only way I could control it was to set comments approval on so I have to approve any comment first.
