I bought a new external hard drive to transfer my files onto from my failing Mac so I can take it in to get repaired. It is a network drive which means it plugs into my router and then I should be able to access all of my files on that drive from any computer in the house. I have an old PC that I will need to work from while this one is in the shop.
Of course…as I explained before nothing "just works" out of the box. So my PC wasn't mapping or recognizing this new drive which means I cannot access my files.
I make the call we all dread…
tech support.
I spent an hour on the phone with a decent guy, but it was taking forever and we didn't seem to be getting anywhere.
Mr. Tech offers a new idea to solve this dilemma and just as he starts to explain it to me…
beep beep beep…
the line goes dead.
Seriously?
How many times has this happened to you?
Do they have a secret emergency button that will just disconnect the line mid sentence?
Like one of those saftey parachutes from planes.
When all else fails, pull this cord and the line will magically disconnect.
Voila.
Problem solved.
Now someone else can deal with it.
Needless to say after that debacle I wasn't keen on getting right back on the phone and starting from scratch again. I will be forced to do it though because I need a viable solution before I take this computer in.
What does that have to do with my outfit?
Nothing.
I won this skirt as part of a giveaway from Missguided from Jessi at Haircut and General Attitude. Thanks Jessi! I also got a dress and some heels that I will show off in upcoming posts.
It is very long on me.
I have pulled up the waist almost as far as my boobs. I feel like I might be starting to look a bit like this guy…
It isn't lined either, but I still like it.
I guess you get what you pay for.
I was excited to use my vintage sweater closure on this cardigan.
Have you ever been on the phone with tech support to have the line go dead?
I swear it is a conspiracy.

oh my gosh, so frustrating!! i hate that. hopefully you get it all straightened out. and no, you will never look like that guy!

How nice Suzanne! I like the skirt and find you are a beauty wearing it…nothing to do with the guy in the fourth photo!! ( so funny ! ) The cap is really lovable on you. Very feminine to wear a vintage closure on a cardigan!
Do hope you can solve your computer problem soon….for me a day without my tab would be terrible!!
Ashley says
Ugh, I hate it when that happens! It’s happened to me… multiple times. I hope you get everything figured out! As for the skirt, I love that length on you. It’s very pinup girl inspired and you look gorgeous 🙂
Patti @ NotDeadYet Style says
oh no, not tech support! I admire your fortitude. I am fortunate to have a computer god living in my home, although even he has to call tech support at times. Then we set the timer! Love, love that high (but not too high) waisted skirt. xo
The Goodwill Fangirl says
You do not look like THAT guy lol. You look very retro and cool; I like those high-waisted pencil skirts. Awesome lippy, too.
Do you ever use Dropbox or similar online storage? Then you can always access your files from any device anywhere. Maybe that’s what he was gonna suggest before he, er, got cut off.
Much love,
Lynne
Happiness at Mid Life says
The high waisted skirt is so flattering on you. And that cardigan closure pin is sop retry. As for tech support, I am probably their worst nightmare with not knowing what to do.

Those shoes are awesome, and I think your new skirt is pretty! I actually do like high-waisted skirts even if my husband disagrees with my vehemently. 😛
Sherry in WA says
Today, while talking to tech support about my phone, the line went dead. It definitely is a conspiracy! Love the skirt, although I agree it’s a bit long.
Val Sparkle says
I don’t want to talk about tech stuff. I just want to comment on that gorgeous skirt and they way you’ve styled it. It looks so cool with the beret, the shoes, and the cardi. I like the high waist on it, and the long lines. Very nice!
Charlotte Issyvoo says
Oh my God you gave me a good laugh with that guy’s high waisted pants. I have a permanent back injury and I’ve been in terrible pain all day so I needed a good laugh. Trust me, you don’t look like him.
And sweater clasps! Why haven’t I thought of getting those? Thanks for the idea.
MIS PAPELICOS says
That skirt is a dream come true to me.
You look fabulous, and I am sooooooooooo honoured to have you here.
Love and sunshine, dear friend

You look SMART in this outfit, an outdated word that seems to fit so well for this, and I mean it in the most highly complimentary way – trim, beautiful, put together. The fit is so true. I think the longer length and high waist of the skirt gives it a great retro vibe. Love it all! Gorgeous.
curlytraveller says
Yeah, I’ve been there; (too) many times:-(. Makes you wanna scream and cry from frustration, despair and anger. At least…I wanna, at moments like that.
Hope all ends well and so on!
And you look better then the guy;-)
Debbie says
You know I love that skirt…my current plaid obsession is out of control! There is no better way to lose hours of your life that you can never get back, then to try to have any sort of conversation with tech support for any device or service you have. Yes, it is a conspiracy. I’m sure of it.

That skirt is glorious and as cute as the guy in the leisure pants is, I think your outfit is a million times better!
I know nothing about technical stuff. I run off and leave it to Jon! x
Grunge Queen says
What a great vintage-y look you have there. I like the high waist, btw. 🙂
No, haven’t had that happen, but I have had many hour-long calls to phone and Internet service providers trying to sort something out, only to have it NOT be sorted out, and to discover in my subsequent call that there was never any record of the first call nor the action taken in the first place. Ug. Yes, I think both phenoms are corporate conspiracies. Hopefully I will never have to deal with the likes of Bell Canada, or Rogers, ever again! Then again, trying to sort things out in French here, if and when they do go wrong, could produce entirely new levels of frustration. When things go wrong, the French tend to shrug their shoulders, and let you figure it out.
P.S. Comments are closed on your November post featuring your estate sale Made in Canada coat, but I have to say, whoa! I have major vintage coat envy! Gorgeous, gorgeous find!
Anne the SpyGirl says
I adore the high waist, below knee length on your skirt. You don’t look like that guy at all! Tres chic with the cardi, beret and Louis heel spectator oxfords.
Thanks for linking up with 52 Pick-me-up!
I shall remain mute re tech support. The less said, the better.
Suzanne says
Oh how I *wish* I had a techie husband. He is less techie than I.
Suzanne says
Thanks for the tip on Dropbox. I use them quite a bit, but I have far too many very large (art & illustration) files to upload to Dropbox, but I do keep some small files there.
Suzanne says
Pshssfff! What do husband’s know? LOL
Suzanne says
I *knew* it! They pulled the rip-cord on you.
Suzanne says
Thanks Val : )
Suzanne says
I think each of us thinks that.
Suzanne says
*Right???* These tech people must be laughing themselves silly.
“We’d been on the phone for 45 minutes and I was just about to *solve* the problem and then…hahahahah…I pulled the rip-cord and the line went dead. Hahahahahahah!”
Suzanne says
I’m still having issues with transferring my files to the other drive. I have to do that first before I can take this one into the Apple store to be fixed. The problems continue…
Suzanne says
You said it…frustrating!
Suzanne says
So glad I could give you a laugh.
Funny enough I was actually looking for photos of either PeeWee Herman in his high waisted pants or Clint Eastwood since every time I see him lately it looks like his pants have creeped up another 2 inches on his torso. Soon they will be covering his neck. But then I stumbled across this jolly gentleman wearing plaid and high waisted pants and I knew it was fate.
Suzanne says
: )
Suzanne says
Thanks Melanie. From one cape, beret & plaid wearing smart gal to another.
Suzanne says
I just got mad. LOL
Suzanne says
Yep…you can just write off your afternoon/morning/evening. It like waiting for the cable guy.
Suzanne says
Another lucky gal with a techie guy. I’m jealous.
Suzanne says
I can’t imagine in France. Already the amount of red tape that they like to wrap themselves in is difficult to explain. I remember everything taking about 10 times the amount of time I thought it would when I lived there.
I need to wear that coat now. We got our first big dump of the year and are now buried. I hate it.
Suzanne says
LOL wink. Say no more Anne..say no more ; )
curlytraveller says
Did it have the desired effect? Is it solved now or still struggling?
Suzanne says
I’m still having issues. Borrowing hubby’s laptop here and there so I’m not totally shut out. I simply need to try to save the files again onto that new drive. Last time it said it moved the folders there, which it did, but then I saw that 85% of the folders were empty! Not cool.
curlytraveller says
What drive is it? Apple's time capsule?
Suzanne says
It’s the Apple cloud.
Natalie says
This whole outfit just makes my heart sing! Love it! I seriously NEED a beret.
I’ve had the same issue with tech support, and recently with an insurance company after I sat on hold and then spent several minutes explaining a billing error. As soon as the person understood the issue, the line died. I called back, waited on hold, and spoke to another person who assured me it had been corrected before the line went dead, but the bill I got in the mail again yesterday made it clear that it hadn’t. Sheesh.

I have tried to solve much of this problem by: 1) having a tech guy at my disposal nearly on a day-basis (immediately if he is not away) for my blog. 2) another tech guy for the software on my PC and 3) a computer shop where I buy everything one street down the road (with great service).
What is left is my provider…. lovely boys but you can only email with them, not phone.. Frustration there.
So it is costing me a few bob as they do not work for free, but at least I have little frustration. The other day the screen of my new Windows computer went off. He only said: No video input. AAGGHHH. And the message stayed whether I switched it off or on. I phoned my guy number 2, he answered immediately and said: you probably touched a hidden button on your screen… Sure enough.
You will so enjoy this little bit on YouTube. It is from a British series called The IT crew and as you can imagine it is about the Helpdesk in the cellar of a big company. (Also read the T-shirt):
