I’ve long since known that the perfect dress for an hourglass figure should have a deep open v-neck, a fitted bodice, and a full skirt that flows out from the hips. That is my perfect dress.
The Karina dress that I won from Patti is that dress.
Thank you Patti and Karina!
The material is soft, stretchy and very comfortable. The length is a bit longer than I normally wear, but I like it.
Dress – Karina (Audrey), Shoes – Ruche (same in black), Hat – Consignment (sim)
The hat I discovered at my favourite consignment store in Oakville Friday. It was so fabulous I couldn’t leave it behind.
Plus it works perfectly with the dress.
Kismet!
I swear, every time I go in that store to pick up a cheque we end up spending more money than we earned.
And by “we” I mean “me” of course.
Husband is just along as eye candy and to sweet-talk the store owners.
The only thing this dress is missing is pockets.
Dang it.
Everything in life is better with pockets.
They need to figure out how to put a pocket on a smart phone.
Then I’d have a place for my id and my credit card. If they can figure out how to make a lipstick fit in there too I’d be set for life. I told you I’m not a handbag woman. I am a very big “pocket” woman though.
Which brings me back to my dream dress…
What about…this exact Karina dress…with pockets...and…
$1,000 cash and a baby pug hidden inside each pocket?
JACKPOT!!!
I’m not telling you what to get me for my birthday,
but some pockets, $2,000 cash and 2 baby pugs will not go unnoticed.
Just sayin’.
What is your ideal dress?

Two baby pugs! That’s all we need for happiness. It’s because we are low-maintenance women. You look glorious in this dress, great pick. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xo.
Glenda says
You look great in this dress. I too like the fit and flare styles for my body. The deep V-neck I tend to shy away from. I’m a bit shy about showing too much.
AK says
You are absolutely right & you look fantastic!
Happiness at Mid Life says
This dress fits you so well! Totally adoring this great hat on you. I am usually the same way with the stores I shop. I go to return things to save money but somehow end up buying things I didn’t plan on. I have to agree with you 100% that everything is better with pockets and cash in them 🙂

This is indeed a perfect cut on you! And you won it, which kind of ups the ‘perfection’ points it’s earned. I really like this sort of full skirt because it’s not too-too-full. Sometime the really gathered sorts of full skirts just seem to have way too much fabric and look a bit overwhelming on me.
Jill James says
Great dress on you , well done on the win. The hat the perfect colour and shape, no wonder it went home with you. I’m the same with our recycle shop , I spend way more than I seem to sell.
Pity about no pockets or baby pugs.
Tiina L says
Greta dress, and fabulous hat! Hm, maybe you should think of handbags as portable pockets? You an even get them in sizes big enough to hold a baby pug, or two. BTW, are you having a big splash celebration in Canada today? I mean the Ice Hockey gold, of course… Yes, I follow ice hockey, I’m a Finn… Just got home from the airport to see the final moments of the game.
suzanne carillo says
My fibromyalgia makes carrying handbags uncomfortable and downright painful if they are too large. Thus why I am more of a pocket gal if at all possible.
I am afraid I am not a true Canadian in that I don’t follow sports of any kind. Blasphemy I know.

You look like you belong in the Kentucky Derby or Dubai World Cup circle! The kind that I only read in newspapers. The dress is perfect on you and the hat adds ‘oomph!’ My perfect dress has to be maxi length, soft fabric that falls beautifully and nothing too figure hugging. You need a magic pocket to fit the baby pugs and lipstick. Reminds me of a Japanese cartoon character called Doraemon with a magic pocket that has the whole world and more in it yet it always look so slim!
Veshoevius says
Fantastic hat & fab look! it’s great with the dress. Has the skirt of the dress got sideseams? If you’re handy with a sewing machine you could insert some. I have a few full skirted dress with pockets in the seams and have found them invaluable for those essential small things – lipstick being one!
Vix says
That dress looks gorgeous on you but it’s the hat I’m mostly swooning over. I love it. What a great find.
Miss V is right, pockets aren’t too tricky to add if the dress has side seams.
Great win, fab choice, cute pug! xxx
Michelle says
if you want dresses with pockets then check out eshakti.com. Seriously, most come with pockets. I’ve had a few fit stinkers with them but they are great at customer service and returns. The only down side is it takes about 3-4 weeks to deliver and in this day and age that can seem like an eternity. Then again, I forget what I ordered and am (usually) pleasantly surprised when I receive my package. 🙂
Sylvia @ 40PlusStyle says
This is indeed a perfect dress for you. Great fit and shape. And I absolutely love this color on you! such a fabulous hat too!
Kristian says
Pockets in dresses is always a plus, though this dress is cute enough even without that added bonus. You got me thinking about my “perfect dress.” Since I wear skirts so much I’ve found I’ve not been as drawn to dresses quite a much. That said, I still love circle skirts on dresses. Lately though, I’ve been looking for the “perfect” summer dress. Something light and airy, yet modest enough that one could go into an Italian church in it (we were planning to go to Italy, but ultimately our summer will take us elsewhere. Still, a good measuring stick!), probably in a neutral and maybe a bit lace-inspired/edwardian era inspired but easier to move in.
Gosh, I’m not picky at all, huh? 😉
Enjoy your GORGEOUS summer dress!

*sigh* There are blogs I visit to pick up information from and blogs I visit as inspiration. This post feeds the latter desire. Not having — and never obtaining — an hourglass figure, I can only dream about how to clothe one. A nice fantasy but, alas, merely that.
You have me wondering now when your birthday is. You don’t have to answer that online but one way or another, I’ll squeeze that information out of you. I love to remember people’s birthdays with cards.
Denise says
I really love the way you write, about what wouldn’t get unnoticed for your birthday! You look lovely and beautiful wearing this dress! It’s really so sweet, the cut is perfect and I loved the color, too! I know what you mean, there are some stores that ugh – we can’t just leave empty handed! And you are right, pockets are always good! For me, as a coincidence, I would say this is the best cut in my opinion too! It really is the perfect cut for a comfortable and feminine style!

You look stunning! This style of dress suits you so well. As to my ideal dress…hmmm, with my eclectic taste I don’t really have one, I just like dresses. They’re my favorite article of clothing and so easy to wear.
Shelley@ForestCityFashionista says
VA VA VOOM!! I bet Robert loves that dress too! Yes, everything is better with pockets (and when I tried to explain that to my tailor, who is very old school italian, he said “for women, they ruin the line”). I will take one baby pug please, and $2000 would be nice too…
My perfect dress? A fitted waist with a big full, circle skirt to give me some curves, a boat neck and three-quarter sleeves.
Sooo, did you watch the Mad Men finale yet?
Natalia Lialina says
How could Karina overlook putting such adorable baby pugs in the pockets (and the pockets of course)?! You look gorgeous in your new dress – the color is wonderful on you, warm red, and I LOVE the way you wear it with this fab hat!
I’ve never done consignment as a seller, but I was the same way when I was one of dealers at an antique shop – I spent much more than I earned.
I would agree about the V-neck, but I think I’m rather a sheath dress kind of a girl myself, though fit and flare are great as well! xxx
elle says
I adore the dress on you, it is perfect, as you say, for your hourglass figure! The color is great, too. But that hat!! OH wow! That is a fie and a half ! I adore it! Yes, consignments stores can be tricky that way…
But you needed this hat! and I want that puppy!!

Yowza Doll! Fantastic dress on you.
Surprisingly, I’m an inverted triangle and the dress you show is extremely flattering on my silhouette too. Deep V, visually narrows my wide shoulders, and full skirt balances my shoulders. Ergo…the perfect dress. I love pockets too!! Perfect for holding baby pugs

Yes to all of this. My perfect dress is very similar, definitely shorter, and royal blue or some other winter color. You look gorgeous!
Alena says
Love the color of your dress! Cool hat too – such a fab choice!

Do the pugs need to permanently stay babies? The dress is gorgeous and suits you really well. I know what you mean about pockets; I love them too and miss them when I don’t have them. Pockets and sleeves, I like both of those things in a dress but they are difficult to come by. I also like darts or an empire waistline with a very body skimming, not maternity style which is also difficult to come by. I love your shoes! Oh hey, I’ve got two baby pugs here, wanna swap for those shoes? xoxo
suzanne carillo says
Ideally…yes. Although well trained babies. LOL
You don’t even need to ask me about the shoes. I’ll be there in 15 minutes to pick up the pugs. : P
Lana says
Oh my….this dress is perfection on you. I agree, pockets make everything better. Maybe there is a cell phone case that has a little pocket on the back?
Sandra says
Congratulations! it’s a beautiful dress, gorgeous on you! and pockets should be mandatory – the hat had to come home with you, it was the right thing to do, and before I go, baby pugs!! oh, the sweetest little face, I want one! (I won’t though, because I know I’d want to put it in a pram…..best leave the baby pugs to responsible people) x x x
Jazzy Jack says
Ahh, sigh! Hourglass figure? Not here!
Looking amazing in that lovely flowing dress, and that hat!!
Hopefully you get lots of sun this Summer to use it.
Pockets…don’t get me started. Having worn men’s jeans as well as women’s…they even get bigger pockets. You can really shove your hand into them.
Who is deciding the whole pocket thing, because there is a universal cry for them it seems to me. Untapped market! Beep! Beep!
Thanks for your lovely comments over here in Natural Medley land 🙂 Jazzy Jack

You look SO good in that dress!! That hat is fab too. I have the same problem at the consignment store. I rarely see my check because I always find something to buy instead. lol

It really is the perfect dress. The forna the neckline, the beautiful waist, and flight volume and skirt are wonderful. Also, the color is fantastic, and with pamela your outfit is spectacular and elegant. I love the look.
Trina says
You seriously found this hat at a consignment store? I’m not even going to ask what you paid for it. Smart girl for not leaving without it. I’ve been trying to convince myself I don’t be that color also, I absolutely love this hat. Perfect for the pool, gardening and statement piece. This color looks fabulous on you as well as the style.
Ok, now I’ll talk about the dress, awe, it’s definitely your perfect dress!
No Fear of Fashion says
What a fabulous dress on you. You look so sexy in it. I bet men are holding their breath when they meet you in this dress. The length of the dress is perfect. Balances out the deeeeepp V-neck.
The hat is indeed a winner to take home. Beautiful.
Of course some good seamstress could make you pockets in the dress. And there are small holders for an iPhone with credit cards slits…
Am I helping here?
Greetje
PS Love it that you take Robert along to be eye candy haha.
Anna says
Your boobs look really good in that dress. I’m sorry. Haha. I just HAVE to say that. My boobs never look that good in that style of dress. I love your hat, too! I think my ideal dress is one that has exaggerated pockets, because those would be really annoying to people and I like to have that effect on people every now and again. Also, I could carry a lot of things in those pockets. 😛

First, I am DYin’ over the baby pug picture! HOW CUTE!! Second, I have several of the Audrey dresses and they are comfy and great for summer. Love the color you picked and the shoes are perfect with it!> My ideal dress would have a shih tzu pup in one of the pockets, and I love the straight pencil dresses with a vintage look. It is hard to choose as you know I love dresses!!
Enjoy your weekend!
