1 Patterned Blazer 3 Looks
When I stumbled across this velvet paisley blazer by Tommy Hilfiger when thrifting I knew it was coming home with me. It reminded me a bit of the patterned velvet blazer I featured in this Polyvore set.
It fits perfectly and shows no signs of wear.
I tell you, thrifting is the BEST!
I also thrifted the boots and skirt in this outfit. Chambray shirt is via consignment and the one piece of retail (the scarf) was from ModCloth ages ago.
I bought this suede skirt below the same day I bought the blazer. Yes, I tried them on together.
I often do that when thrifting…find pieces that go together.
I find if I try on an complete outfit in the fitting room it is much easier to decide if I really like the pieces. Of course, sometimes that means I end up buying more…c’est la vie.
The rather snug waist on this skirt means no second helpings of dessert for me.
Crap…does that mean I have to put down this half eaten Coffee Crisp?
Don’t answer that.
Boots & clutch via estate sale, shirt (very old), Blazer & skirt – thrifted.
I’ve been on a bit of a velvet and suede kick lately. Both are materials I like to wear for fall and winter.
I just ordered this velvet blazer to add to my collection of the orange, red, and black velvet blazers I own.
I won’t quit until I have a full rainbow in my closet.
That’s normal right?
I picked up these faux suede cigarette pants from TJ Maxx recently. They were too comfy to leave behind. Yes, I am buying clothes based on comfort.
I’ve succumb to the dark side.
Next I’ll have on a full velour tracksuit with juicy written across the ass.
If you see me dressed like that, don’t come near! Aliens have taken over my body.
I’ll probably have a cigarette hanging out of my mouth with two inch long spiked cherry red nails talking a mile a minute about my insane afternoon of death match bingo. My real fur bag with a small rodent’s head on it will be stuffed with eight different coloured bingo highlighters, four packets of Gauloises and two mickeys of scotch, to “lighten up” my diet coke. I will have just come back from a lunch of steak and pork hocks with a side of veal. For dessert I had a triple shot of espresso and a cigar.
It doesn’t get more alien than that for me.
Handbag – Danier, Shoes – Thrifted, Pants – TJ Maxx, Turtleneck – H&M
What would you be like if an alien took over your body?
Yes, I know I’ve gone completely off track from the original post about 1 patterned blazer 3 looks.
Thanks Coffee Crisp.

An alien has taken over my body if you see me with . . . a hot roller set, big-hair, hair sprayed blonde hairstyle, with fake, french-manicured nails, super white American style bleached chiclet teeth, dressed in some kind of sports-like khaki pants, button-up plaid shirt, and similar jacket, with blindingly new white sports shoes.
I like the blazer on you, looks great in each outfit. I especially like your suede skirt choices (I adore suede). I have one not dissimilar to the first brown skirt and would steal the second one off you in a heartbeat (except you’re smaller than I).
suzanne carillo says
Ha ha! I’d pay money to see you as an alien!
Andrea@WellnessNotes says
The blazer looks great all three ways!
Aliens have taken over my body if I wear high heels for more than an hour, love to iron, and spend a lot of time on my hair.
suzanne carillo says
Those aliens and their ironing…probably why they have such smooth skin!
anne the spygirl says
Gorgeous blazer and fits you perfectly.
About that alien thing. Is THAT the reason I’m decluttering?
suzanne carillo says
I never knew aliens were so neat, but then again, I’ve never seen a cluttered space ship either.
Patti says
Beautiful thrifting, you. I will def send the authorities (the Men in Black?) if I see you in a Juicy sweatsuit, with a ciggie hanging out of your mouth. If aliens took me over, I’d have a bacon sandwich for breakfast, then go back to bed – without making it! And say oh what the hell to every chore and responsibility. Hey, this alien thing isn’t so terrible after all.
You look fantastic.

Get Men in Black to bring the pug!
I think your alien might have taken over my body this past weekend.
Shybiker says
Ha! Your super-shopping skill is matched only by your amusing humor. Love reading your posts.
Shybiker says
Hey! Me, again. Just want to mention that I found a perfect outfit to wear with the pug pin you gave me. It really showcases the pin nicely. Blue tuxedo jacket with black lapels (on which the pin sits); matching Anne Taylor midi-skirt. Hope to wear it soon. I’ve already written the post gushing about how much I like you (as if that was a secret). Thanks for inspiring me!
suzanne carillo says
Oooh! Cannot wait to see!
Happiness at Mid Life says
This blazer is amazing!! I love blazers and prints but somehow I am still afraid to wear a printed blazer (I don’t count plaid or stripes as a print).

Awww…heck! I wanted to hear what you would be like if an alien took over your body!

I love the blazer. Your thrifting reminds me so much of the clothes I had in highschool. I had a black based paisley velvet blazer with tan, rust and apricot. Man, I wish I had that now! Of course it wouldn’t fit. Perhaps I could fashion a dog coat out of it.
Alien me – pleated trousers, running shoes, a turtleneck and matching cardigan sweater, with short hair and bangs carrying one of those purses with the wooden handle that you switch out the bag part via buttons. {{{{{SHUDDER}}}}}
suzanne carillo says
I have never seen one of those bags.
Your alien sounds a bit like The Golden Girls. Ha ha!

Did your alien and my alien hang out last summer? Remember? I was wearing the push-up-and-over bra and I stole your winning bingo card, but after, when I gave you some beef jerky and whiskey and cheesies, you forgave me. NOW do you remember? Heh.
Here’s the thing, which would be the greater torture – giving up Coffee Crisp or wearing Spanx? I say, keep on eating!!!
I LOVE your blazer. What a score!! It’s hitting all the right pattern points. Good thing I wasn’t there with you. Our debate on who gets it, filmed by a bystander, would have made us famous on YouTube by now.
suzanne carillo says
I remember it well.
{sigh}
orange coloured fingers…
Cheesies…
You taught me how to clean my teeth by chewing on the beef jerky and rinsing my mouth with rum and coke.
Good times. Good times.

Love all three looks! I just scored a brand new Loft jacket at the thrift store yesterday. I’ve also recently discovered Estate sales here in Sun City where I live. I should be able to score a ton of vintage clothing here considering the fact that the majority of the people here are close to 90 years old! 😉

You are gonna love those estate sales! Be wary though! People can get rather pushy.

Ooh, that’s a great little jacket, I love it! I can’t resist a bit of velvet either, and I was almost tempted by a vintage red suede skirt today, but it had a big old mark on it which I rather feared wouldn’t come out, so I left it in the charity shop. All three outfits have a warm autumnal vibe about them, a gorgeous casual chic.
The aliens have come for me if I’m in Ugg boots and a baseball cap. NEVER going to happen. xxx
suzanne carillo says
Ha! Now I’m kinda obsessed with the idea of you with a baseball cap on!
Porcelina says
I love these posts where I get to see one piece a few different ways, and where you go off piste on a bit of a rant/write! I think those trousers are lovely, and are a million miles away from a velour tracksuit, so don’t you worry, the aliens haven’t landed just yet…x
suzanne carillo says
Story of my life is I’m off piste all the time! LOL
Petite Silver Vixen says
Right, I’m putting something right – no one’s said how frickin’ awesome is that jacket you’ve ordered! Swoon, swoon.
And you’re so wise about trying on items together to see if they will come home with you. Is that why I end up with several more bags on shopping trips that I intended????
You’d know if Aliens had taken over me if I started wearing either Uggs or Crocs or ridiculously high heels.

I love that blazer, it goes with anything. And it’s a true statement piece, too. BTW, it’s perfectly normal to collect garments in similar styles: I seem to collect cropped cardigans, or Breton tops…. As for aliens, don’t know about that, but my friends have told me in no uncertain terms that they will call the men in white coats the day I start wearing beige…
Denise says
I liked the rodent’s bag 🙂 and the “lighten up my coke” 🙂 story 🙂 three times smiling! I don’t know what I would be if an alien took my body, I guess many people used to think I was an alien anyway, now I am getting to be more normal, no joke. It’s a good feeling. Sorry for the absence, I was and am exhausted, I think I need to take supplements, really not well. I loooved the blazer, cause I love blazers and patterns! My favorite look is the one with beige boots and the skirt – it looks reallo so cool! I loooved your hair, by the way!

Gorgeous blazer and absolutely perfect with everything you’ve worn it with!
An alien would have taken over my body if I wore beige, no jewellery and Crocs. xxx
Liz says
I know it’s a Tommy Hilfiger blazer, but all three of these looks have a very Michael Kors sort of feel. Maybe I’ve just been watching too much Project Runway. We just signed up for Hulu, and I’ve been binging on PR. My favorite styling is with the bandanna, denim shirt, and suede skirt.
I was in high school when the “Juicy” bottoms first became popular. What followed was an onslaught of tacky track pants with all sorts of sayings on the butt. I remember one of my girlfriends and I spotting an especially brilliant pair on a fellow classmate with just two hand prints on the butt, one cupping each buttocks. My friendly loudly exclaimed, “Hands off! I have herpes!” And now Dani’s voice is all I hear when I see those pants. lol

I felt I was channeling Ralph Lauren. LOL I haven’t watched Project Runway in years.
Ha ha! Loved the story about your friend : )

I’ve decided you just have one terrific eye for thrifting, I can’t believe you found that blazer and that it fits perfectly. Oh then along with the skirt. I agree with Melanie, good thing I wasn’t shopping with you, we would have had to turn into aliens to decide who went home with it. Great pairings, all three!
If aliens took over my body, you would see me gladly eating a big juicy steak, potato fully loaded, and bring on the dessert as well. I wouldn’t give a crap about my house cleaning and would most likely be heading out in your twin velour track suit.
suzanne carillo says
Oooh…so then you won’t be fighting me over my potato fully loaded and dessert? Good thing : )
Elle says
Dear heavens! Amazing finds! The jacket reminds me of Etro! I love your new suede and velvet acquisitions! I have been doing the same in the consignment and thrift stores.
What I love about the first outfit, is everything, but the knotted scarf and your neck take it to another level.
Brava!

suzanne carillo says
It does have a bit of an Etro vibe. If only I could find an authentic Etro blazer in a thrift store!

Three looks? Three looks wonderful!
No Fear of Fashion says
Very well done my dear. That jacket looks so good on you and you created three outfits with it. All three very becoming (nice old fashioned word).
An alien would have taken over my body if I wore Crocs (like Vix… never), wore no eye makeup, washed my hair and left it to dry normally without doing anything to it, wearing a body clinging short dress. Got the picture? You wouldn’t even recognize me. (Untill you hear me laugh.)

I like all three but especially like the idea of pairing a scarf with a blazer and how the last look is all monochrome!

An alien HAS taken over my body and it’s called Old Age:-(.
No, seriously: these items and combos look great on you! Really nice, Suzanne.
And of course your post made me LOL. Love your writing and your humor.
